Was in Woolies yesterday and noticed this product at half price. This isn't the original sriracha product but it appears they are introducing a new range?

It's not a new range and has been available for a while. Doesn't taste anything close to Sriracha. Tastes like Sriracha mixed with tomato sauce.

    • Oh man…good to know. I bought it to try and when on the aisle, I thought their was the new packaging. The other one wasn't next to it.

Huy Hong sriracha just doesn't do it anymore. The taste has changed since 2019.

    • Maybe your taste has changed since you got covid?

      • I haven't had COVID yet. The taste changed prior to COVID.

Eater explains that the pepper change is the result of a dispute between Huy Fong and their longtime pepper grower. The chili-based hot sauce is made with bright red jalapeno peppers, which are farmed for Huy Fong through an exclusive partnership with Underwood Ranchers in California. As a result of the dispute, Huy Fong has secretly stopped working with Underwood and is now obtaining their peppers from an unknown supplier.

    20% sugar… No thanks

So you make your own sauce then? This is less that most commercial tomato sauces, and the reduced sugar varieties I have tried don't taste that great.

    • Fair enough, but your diet doesn't affect whether it's a bargain…

PS: don't look up the constituents of honey, or other sweet condiments. You'll be horrified 😆

Wow that ingredient list is useless. I wonder what percentage chilli this has?

    • Less than 2% (per the link)

      • Disagree, there are brackets closing out the 2% of stuff in the tomato sauce bit, but no percentage of the Huy Fong sauce.

    • The label of the original recipe sauce says in the ingredients list states that it is 83% chilli. The nutrition panel of the same label states that it is 10% sugar by weight (10g per 100).
