Le Creuset Signature Cast Iron Round Casserole 26cm / 5.3l (Cherry Red) $349 + Delivery ($0 with Kogan First) @ Kogan

190

I have been waiting for a deal on this. This is a lot cheaper than the $630 price tag on the main website.

Bargain. And from Kogan…hold me back.

    • Be careful. Kogan has been known to sell fakes, and refuse to refund.
I personally bought a "genuine rubiks cube" from them (not a marketplace seller), which turned out to be a knockoff.

if you look at the chasseur and staub …they have dimples in lid so condensation drops onto the middle of the food …design creuset doesn’t have but creuset has bigger handles …… cheaseur and creuset are both double glazed if you check the chasseur web site

great deal if you want creuset or need to match the color to other creuset pieces ….

wish they had killer deal on creuset frypans in red …… their cast iron frypans are great …..i have a mix of chasseur creuset and also cast iron so have tried them all except staub.

  • Serious question - why would one get this over a generic $30 cast iron enamelled pot?

    • Why would one get a 200k car over a 20k one?

      • Except that a 200k car generally has a bunch of things mechanically, plus features and comforts that differentiate it from a 20k car. This isn’t to say I feel it’s worth spending 200k on a car by any means, but I don’t feel the analogy drives home your point.

I have a Le Creuset myself, and I’m willing to admit a far cheaper cast iron product would probably do a decent enough job to warrant the savings for those who don’t care. For me personally the aesthetics and quality of the enamel were enough, I know I’ll never have to re-purchase as I look after all my gear and I spend a heap of time in the kitchen which makes it worthwhile for me, but I really can’t see the relevance of comparing a car purchase with a 180k price difference to cast iron pots.

I have the $500 variety and the $30 variety in almost the same colour.
When the Le Creuset was empty on the stove and the hotplate inadvertently turned on to full for 14 hours and even the brick wall behind the stove was hot to the touch, the Le Creuset enamel was still intact.
The enamel did start to crack up inside shortly afterwards. But, I think if this had been the cheap one, the house probably would’ve burnt down whilst we were out.

do you think cheaper iron burns?

Not doing any more of those tests.
