  • Kingston kc3000 any good?

    • +2

      According to https://linustechtips.com/topic/1092033-ssd-tier-list/
Same as the recent 980 pro in the S Tier, Ultra High-End

Waiting for ~$100 for 1tb B tier ssd.

      • -1

That list is a bit biased and it is simply based on the controller. If the SSD uses E16, even it that SSD uses inferior NAND chips than the ones in B tier, they are still in A tier.

The list on external SSDs is too dated and assumes USB 3.2 gen 2 is the ceiling.

    • It's good, I'd rate it in the same tier as the 990 Pro, better than the 980 Pro due to its 7000 MB/s write speeds, compared to the 980 Pro which only does up to 5000 MB/s write.

    • Constantly showing at least 5000 MB/s speed in tests, cost less than 980 Pro, warranty 5 years. Yes it's good.

  • Can't wait for fast NVME to come down more.

  • KC3000 2TB is $335.68 on Amazon

    • Yes, but that is sold by Amazon UK.

Hey OP, I’ve raised an RMA of a defective keyboard over a week ago and emailed you again yesterday. Please get back to me

    • -5

Do you really think this is the platform to raise an RMA?
I mean what defective keyboard? what's your email, what's your name, what's your invoice number???
Sure if you need to call the police or ambulance for an emergency then use the OzBargain comments page, but raise an RMA!!??

      • +3

Whoa calm your tits. Did I raise a RMA here? No.

I was just needing the OP to support their customer of which they chose to ignore me via their official channel.

If you work for BPC, I can see your passion here :)

      • It's relevant in this case because Kingston SSD's warranty is through the retailer. So, you need a retailer willing to help you for those 5 years. Furthermore, with online purchases, the warranty could still start on the date of invoice, rather than the date you received the actual item.

Maybe less of an issue if you live in Melbourne since BPC store is in Melbourne.

    • Hi Xenoic,

Sorry to hear about your delay.

I just talked to the team regarding your email, but would great if you can share me your order details through PM so we can directly locate your order :)

      Sincerely,
      BPC Team

      • I’ve dropped you a PM. cheers

  • The kc3000 has a heat spreader, some sites say it is enough for the ps5 and other say better to have a heat sink. Kington says internal test shows it works however a heat sink is recommended by Sony. Do I need a heat sink for the ps5 ?

    • +1

It will work without one. However, just get a heatsink otherwise you will keep thinking about it. When Tom's Hardware tested various combinations, they found the fastest combination is without the heatsink AND without the cover. However, that combination is not desirable. With cover closed, with heatsink is a little bit better (but the difference is so minor vs without heatsink). The worst one is cover open, and with heatsink so the coolest combination isn't the fastest.

      • True, true. Which heatsink do you recommend? The sebrent is $34, with the drive it’s $378, very close the the wd850 with heat sink for $395

        • +1

I’ve got Sabrent on my 980 pro in the PS5. Feels premium and fits really well IMHO. There are a lot of other cheaper options as well so YMMV

  • KC3000 is a good one but the price can be better comparing to SN850 and 980 pro.

    • In which way it's inferior to the other two?

  • +1

Isn't Kingston the brand that lowered the quality on their products after reviewers finished reviewing products they sent to the reviewers?

    • +2

Right now, for these SSD makers not making their own controller to make a SSD with that kind of specs, there is only 1 choice, Phison E18. Could Kingston change the NAND chips? Certainly possible. However, WD and Samsung have already done that to SN550, and 970 Evo Plus. Crucial has also done that. So, before you tease Kingston, name one brand that hasn't done any bait and switch first.

  • Dang, just bought the other Crucial P5 Plus deal.. but probably wouldn't notice any difference between them anyways.

    • +1

Probably a better purchase anyway. P5+ is a great drive.
