EDIT: THIS DEAL IS BACK, Re-Enabling this thread.

For my computer setup, I upgraded to the Edifier S360DB last year when it hit this exact historical low price, I owned the S350DB prior to that for over a year too. I looked for reviews but none of them really gave me a good idea of what differences to expect between the S350DB and the S360DB. I would argue, the jump is as big as going from the Logitech Z623 to the S350DB, maybe even bigger. And the S350DB is considered one of the best choices already at around the $350 AUD price bracket.

The S360DB sounds full. First of all, there is a big difference in bass performance. Although the sub-woofer performance itself is close to the S350DB (albeit it’s wireless and much easier to setup), the S360DB subwoofer amps are upgraded. The two speakers on either side go deeper, in terms of bass, than the S350DB speakers, giving the sound three layers of bass from all directions on the S360DB. You might be thinking, if the speakers on either side now have a lot more bass, it might muddy the mids and the highs? That assumption is wrong. The planar tweeters on the S360DB are developed by Fostex, they improve not only the imaging significantly in my opinion when compared with its predecessor, but combined with the German produced drivers by KLIPPEL, they produce much cleaner mids and highs too in comparison to the S350DB. These combinations, give a completely different layer to vocals. You can hear the rumble in those who have deeper voices, since both speakers go lower in the frequency range, you get sub-bass and bass from the woofer, and bass from the two speakers, while maintaining and improving clarity of the overall voices.

As I stated earlier, the S360DB just sounds full and rich with detail. I don’t know how else to put it, but I haven't heard any soundbar + woofer combinations or Bookshelf Speakers at around this price of $400 to $450 that would sound better than the Edifier S360DB IMO for Desktop or Entertainment purposes. Purely for music, there are more accurate Bookshelf Speakers in this price range, but overall with a subwoofer, the S360DB are definitely worth their default price of ~$600 to $650.

    love the review !

I dont need this at all, have already too many speakers and dont know where I would put these but I want to buy it just purely on reading the review !!!!

What would be a better choice at this price point purely for music?

I have R1855DB’s and am interested in upgrading.

Hey mate, the world of audio is littered with a lot of opinions and it is hard to filter through them all. With that being said…here's mine!

First of all, my use case may not fit yours as different people listen to music in different ways. I tend to do stuff or watch stuff on my PC so I was looking for a quality set of speakers that could sit on my desk and play music (and movies). If this is different for you, then they may not be a good option. I should add that I do have a pretty big desk. If you have a small desk, these may not be for you.

I can recommend the JBL LSR305's. Like these Edifiers, they are powered which means that you do not have to plug them into an Amp. In my case, I have them plugged into an Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface which acts as a DAC (to clean up the sound coming from my PC) and volume control (it is super handy to have a volume knob). By the time I paid for the Scarlett, the speakers and some cables, I was down about $660 so they may not fit your budget.

There a million reviews on this speaker as they have been around for ages, but the consensus is that for the money, they are a great buy.

For reference, I was coming from the much lauded Logitech Z623 (which I personally don't think that much of, but people seem to really like them).

  • Nice review op

  • Wonder how these compare to my Edifier S730Ds

    • Buy first compare later

I know right!! I get the odd bass buzz once in a blue moon out of my S730D's. I'll be heartbroken when they blow and I'll have to downgrade :( lol

I just bought the S2000mkiii but this review made me think otherwise. No rAgrets!!!

    • I'm planning to pull the trigger on S2000MKIII for my study desk setup, do you like it?

      • I went from a 5.1 setup and yes, blown away from the quality!

        • I too just bought S2000mkiii but not that satisfied with the sound. Connected to TV via optical and also playing music from phone via bluetooth. May be i am not using the right input. If possible can you pls let me know what is the input you are using?

          • @vrb: @vrb: Hey mate you commented on my other post but I figured I'd reply here. Not sure I understand what you mean by the right input. If you are using optical you have to use the optical input, or Bluetooth if you are stream. I use mine via optical with my Chromecast tv and love it. Also using the RCA input for my PC and that works well. My suggestion is maybe try moving them away from the wall if they are close. Or play around with the treble and bass dials. I left mine in in the middle and I use the dynamic preset. Hope that helps.

          • @vrb: I too am using the optical for the TV. Could be a positioning thing as mentioned above. Seems to be a slight difference in quality when using the RCA for music. This is still all kinda new to me so I'm exploring and experimenting. Even considering getting an external DAC hoping it'll increase the quality to take advantage of the higher bitrates and sampling from my source files (from reading other posts)

            • @sean85: Thank you @krammis76, @sean85 for your inputs
I was just looking to understand whether you were using optical or RCA or bluetooth input etc and if there are any marked differences in the sound quality if we change from one type of input to another.

The major observation i had was - When I connected an echo dot to the speakers via bluetooth the sound was much better. But when connected with 3.5mm output of the echo dot, the sound quality was noticeably horrible and kind of tinny.

I might also go down the external DAC route. Lets see how that is.

              • @vrb: I'd say the echo dot probably has a pretty bad dac/amp for that 3.5mm jack.

          • @vrb: What's wrong with the sound?

I have the S350DB (old model) and for the money they are amazing hands down and I'm an audiophile listener. Not Evan HiFi and I still enjoy them. There are no issue. I would like to get the newer one after this reveow but. I dont like the golden woffer, speaker diphram. And its a little high still. J picked my S350DB on special for 350$ AUD 1.5 years ago

      Curse that inflation

    • +1

I think I got that same deal on the S350DBs $350 delivered in April 2020. :)

Very happy with them as my PC Speaker setup. Reckon these 360DBs look pretty good also

  • Man I just bought the s351db and now I'm slightly regretting not spending a bit more. At least its an upgrade from my Logitech x-540.

  • +1

Bought these at full price because they weren't Instock for months and was afraid of waiting longer, compared to my old set of z906s the audio clarity is amazing and find myself not missing the 5.1.

  • +1

350db blew my mind going from Logitech speakers lol

  • +1

IIRC, the tweeter upgrade in these is the same pair from the S3000Pro.. At this price with the slightly upgraded sub. Excellent choice!

I personally have mostly moved to 2.0 setups in the place generally (as a renter, the sub generally isn't a neighbour favourite. I also like less cable and floor clutter), but would definitely consider replacing my aging, but still going strong S330Ds on my partners PC. (last 2.1 setup left).

    Nice post!

Any thoughts on using these for TV (instead of a soundbar?). I assume the optical connection would suffice. Curious about integrated volume control signalling via the optical cable like soundbars seem to achieve.

    • You're confusing something I think, you can't control tv volume via an optical cable.

    • You will get the volume control but it would be via tv outputting less so these speakers will reduce the volume accordingly.

    • No way to control volume on these with your TV remote but they come with a remote. I use the S350DB with my TV and have done for 12 months I’m much happier with the performance compared to the soundbars I used previously.

Although the round remote is without a doubt the worst remote design I’ve ever encountered. It’s impossible to use in the dark and confusing.

  • Back to 499 now , Damn I missed out

  • These were $381 on ebay during the afterpay day sales, but sure, still a solid price

    • buy now 28degree later 👍

    • Can you link me to the deal? I have genuinely never seen them drop below this price. Are you sure those weren't the S350DB and not the S360DB?

      • +1

Can absolutely assure you it was the 360's, and it was definitely $381 after the AFPAYDAY code was applied. Might've been TitanGear's eBay store, but I genuinely can't remember now.

No one posted an exact link to them on OzB cos everything was so cheap during the afterpay day sales. I made a comment about the $381 price on another website so I'm confident I don't have my wires crossed here :)

        • Should have posted the deal. That would have been a killer deal for the S360DB's, a historical low. Unbelievable price if you're sure it was the S360DB.

          • @ThatsCheap: I think it may have been mentioned in the comments of one of the other Edifier speaker deals.

$381.XX would be $448.XX minus 15% afterpay discount, which sounds about right. Your post is still the outright historical low without afterpay :)

  • Great review, thanks.

  • I’m still running my Corsair SP2500 for my PC. Are these an upgrade in sound?

    • +1

Would be a big upgrade mate

    • +1

      Bigly upgrade mate.

  • How do they compare to s3000 pro?

    • +1

They both have the same planar tweeters that are developed by Fostex (if anything the S360DB tweeters are 10W each, and the 3000Pro tweeters are 8W each), but the drivers are much larger on the S3000Pro for bass & mids. It does lack a sub-woofer though.

Looking at the overall power draw & specs, and those drivers being much larger. The S3000Pro would most likely sound much cleaner and better overall. Especially for music and vocals, probably better at imaging too. I haven't tested the S3000Pro myself, just going based on specs.

      • Thankyou, I am looking for a cleaner more natural sound than my 1380DBs which will go to the office (as they were supposed to)

  • What's the use case for these? If you're in your study, you would normally use headphones? And probably a more home-theatre-like setup for the lounge? Maybe for a bedroom?

  • Anyone happen to have had Altec Lansing 621's in the past and can compare to these? Im still rocking the 621s, must be well over 20 years old now.

    • Considering they were comparable to the Logitech speakers 20 years ago (unless I am looking at a different model), I'd say these Edifiers are not only more efficient (use less power), but are much better speakers too.

  • I use these for me PC and they are fantastic. The remote is hot garbage and dies after a week or so. But the rest of the unit is amazing.

Edifier however as the worst after sales service. So just hope you'll never need help from them.

    • +1

Good thing you'd just deal with Amazon in this case. My S350DB unit had Bluetooth issues and when I bought the S360DB over a year later, I returned the S350DB for a full refund. I'd never buy from Edifier directly when the Amazon option is available.

As for the remote, the battery has never run out for me.

  • Awesome speakers. Terrible remote.
Luckily the nvidia shield remote supports these

    • Is it confirmed to support the 360s? They stopped updating the support list years ago

      • Get a Broadlink RM4 Mini for $24. It can learn any remote just by pointing the remote at the Broadlink and pressing each button to program it.
Then you can control it all from the App on your phone.

  • Would it be much better than Edifier R1280DBs Active Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B087CPPHBB/ ?

  • It's back in stock at the same price. Deal posting area says don't post if it's less than a month since the same deal.

Pretty popular speaker so now you know.
