    Thanks OP. Got one.

Good price but not as good as the 2TB https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/721360 @ $121/TB (I prefer the slim vs Shield) or Crucial X8 $113/TB
Beat the T7 Shield 2TB Portable SSD Black $242.13 (for the normal slim 1 or 2TB) & I'm in

Again, Crucial X8 is just the bottom of the barrel P1 QLC drive in a case. Its cheap for a reason, its rubbish. Might as well get a MX500 and stick it in the case/

      • Depends on the use case. MX500 560MB/sec sequential read & 510MB/sec sequential write & you need expensive case for fast speed.
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crucial-x8-portable-ssd 1 GBps best pricing in its performance category.
Great for backup. For extended storage, T7 is better. I use T7 & T5 1TB each.
Might wait for 2TB T7 slim. As I didn't see 10TB for my 4th Synology NAS I might get larger external if <$25/TB I'm patient :)

        • +1

Its an external SSD, unless you plan on running an OS off it. The typical use case will be moving/storing data. The 12GB cache for a 1TB will run out very quickly, and the pseudo cache will disappear very fast as the drive starts to fill up.

I have an old P1 now using as external, its PITA copying just a hundred or so gig to it.

        • lol it crashed after 200GB of sequential writing to HDD speeds,

          no thank you very much.

get a 2tb or 4tb mx500 in a case and it'll run around in circles

      • I'm also thinking of the mx500 in a case, any recommendations on a case?

        • +2

Pretty much any usb to sata will do the job. Unlike the NVME where things are wild west out there.

        • +3

any usb 3.0 2.5" enclosure you don't need an "expensive case for fast speed".

          • @dfg555: Thinking of putting it into the glovebox, so it doesn't matter? Heat dissipation?

            • +1

@chillipaste: What cha doing with it in the glovebox?

              • @minty: Probably for the tesla's dash cam/sentry mode recording…. The port is in the glove box

  • Got one. thanks for the post.

  • PS5 compatible?

    • +1

Should be fine as an external drive.

      • Can you play games off it?

Otherwise I spose it's not a huge deal, other than waiting times.

        • +3

I've been using a T5 to play PS4 games on the PS5 for the last year and a half.

Also good for storing PS5 games when you inevetibly run out of space.

          • +1

@whitlam: Same - you cannot play PS5 games from an external drive, but terrific for transferring your old PS4 saves and games to the PS5 without using up precious HD space on the new mothership. So I assume the T7 would work just as well or better.

            • @wazman67: May aswell just keep my 4TB, if I have to transfer on/off.

        • +2

I've been using the T7 500Gb to play games on a PC. Barely notice the difference between T7 (marginally slower loading) and internal SSD.

$14 more for the T7 Shield on Amazon For those interested (free delivery if you have prime)

    • It's coming up at $99 for me

  • Is it much better?

  • "The seller isn't accepting bids or offers from you."

    What a joke!

  • We use these at work and have been very happy with the speed and reliability - even though they are a bit pricey

Got JB to price match Amazon and used $10 perks voucher to bring the price down to $134. Then paid $50 with Commbank card card to get $10 cashback and the rest with gift cards bought with previous Commbank cashbacks.

    • username checks out.. somewhat.

  • question.

kind of need a minimum 512gb storage, just for backing up stuffs from my NAS.
i know the usual portable HDD isnt a good idea anymore in 2022.

so i guess the ozb way is to get a ssd or m2 and then get a case for it?
my question which one better? and less total cost (drive + case) ?

    • If you want one now-ish, $134 is about the as good as you can get it for 1TB that's already in an enclosure, plus, it's small as.

By the usual going rate you're unlikely to get it cheaper by a few bucks if you manage to do so.

  • Oh well this deal proves me wrong that the "Red color" would be the least popular and lowest price.

I paid this much for the Red 1TB T7 after getting OFW to price match BingLee's $139. So if you head over to officeworks with this deal you will get an even better price.

Edit: Oh this is from eBay. Not sure if OFW will price match this, especially before delivery costs.

Appears to now be out of stock.

  • Does a faster NVME SSD make a difference when compared to the slower portable SSD?

I just use my computer for playing games, web browsing with lots of tabs, and some productivity.

  • This deal is back, new code is SNSSEPT
Same price after code @ $134
