Weber GA (Go Anywhere) Barbeque

Hi all, looking to buy two of these soon but can only see full RRP at $139. Pickup in Melbourne East/South East or cheap delivery deals appreciated!

Any father's day specials around?

  • I have one of these, haven't used it in years, should Gumtree it actually. They're good but in NSW they can't be used during total fire bans, not sure if VIC is the same or if that matters to you. Bought a Baby Q instead though even it has restrictions but it's also more capable.

Thanks, I'm planning to use it like a hibachi. So countertop charcoal/smoke cooking in addition to main bbq, not sure how much we'll move it around. But the portability is a bonus at this price as most quality hibachis are around $200+

      • Fair enough though they put out a lot of smoke for indoor use. Used mine once in a flyscreened enclosure as it was pouring down and we had to abandon it part way through. Hope you've good a good extractor or something. Hibachi I've seen have a lot of insulation and can get away with using very small amounts of charcoal not to mention are smaller in size anyway.

Weber stuff doesn't go on sale very often. You might get lucky with a fathers day sale at a BBQ or camping place.

        • Sorry I meant a hibachi for outdoor use only!

Yeah it's a bit of a compromise but can't justify owning both a hibachi and a portable charcoal bbq.. $139 full RRP is reasonable value so might just have to bite the bullet here and revoke my OzBargain licence ;-)

          • @goingDHfast: I found 1 or 2 butane cookers handy to take around (pending restrictions), and put it on a griddle. Awesome.
Especially handy if someone in the family has allergens.

          • @goingDHfast: I don't believe it's safe to use charcoal indoors.

I was planning to use mine indoors, but decided against it due to carbon monoxide.

      • They're good too. I wanted the rectangular go anywhere but got the small round instead. Lasts forever and doesn't take up much space at all.

I can't help you there but GA's are awesome, I have one and am in a rental at the moment so couldn't bring my smoker or gasser. The GA cooks 90% of food quickly and efficiently, for anything bigger than steaks or a chook I fire up the big charcoal Weber. Can't go wrong with a GA, even at full RRP

    • The leg looks quite flimsy as well as the plate. Is portability the main draw of the GA?

      • +1

The legs are solid, but they swing easily so when you're setting it down you just need to set them in place and they are solid. Portability is a big draw card, but also it's really good for cooking small meals. Less charcoal required to heat up the smaller area, plus the cooking grate sits a lot closer to the charcoal than a standard Weber so really good for searing.

Are these practical? Would also need to bring a fair bit of other kit along with it to use it that seems to negate the benefit of it being 'portable'. I.e. charcoal, firelighters, charcoal chimney. That seems to be a lot of effort considering the cooking real estate you get on this. I get that people like to use charcoal to cook but for this size cooker, it just doesn't seem practical to me.

    • Bunnings chimney is $10 and works fine, paper towel with some oil on it for firelighters (works better), and charcoal… well there's fuel costs for gas also.

      • My point isn't the cost but the amount of stuff you have to lug around to use this thing, therefore impacting the portability of it. The chimney and charcoal isn't small and is dirty so painful to move about.

        • If you get a folding chimney you can pack everything you need for a cook into the Weber GA itself.

These things are great. You can get risers, deflectors, all sorts of 3rd party accessories.

I just wish I knew the blue ones were coming out

    • Just looked up the blue colour, it's great but not worth remortgaging the house for thanks 😭

    • Once you get over the hype black looks better anyway IMO, especially if you swap out the plastic handles for some wood repro's.

  • The best price I can find is the Weber eBay store using code BRAND5OFF bringing the price to $133 delivered.

Can anyone find a better deal?

  • it's hard to find Webers on special. Best bet may be discounted BCF gift card or they sometimes have 10% off.
