  • Isn't technically the spec for a 40gbps cable, a max of 80cm?

    • That is the top line specification I have previously seen but at least according to this USB Design Guide from the USB Implementers Forum:
      https://www.usb.org/sites/default/files/D2T2-2%20-%20USB4%20…

      It states the following:
      "USB4 Gen2 supports a 12 dB (2m) cable while USB3.2 Gen2 support only a 6 dB
(1m) cable due to the difference in system loss budget."

So it looks like it can be 2m if the total system attenuation doesn't exceed that, something I would imagine is no easy task.

      • Scratch that, looks like that's for 10Gbps.

Yeah I have heard of some longer cables for 40Gbps but they were active types.

        • This is USB4 Gen 3×2 passive cable. So, essentially a Thunderbolt 3 cable. Given the specs permits it, it sounds better to sell it as Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4 cable.

    • 80cm - that could be Thunderbolt 3. With Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4, up to 2m is possible. However, a lot of cable makers are doing 80cm to dodge the harder requirements. Even if this is slightly under spec, do we really have the equipment to test this properly?

  • OP, you need to come up with better deal.

Your competitor is doing $21.40: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08MVNSWXF

That one is 0.8m. However, if you can provide reasons why your 1m one is better, then perhaps that will help. However, only 2m cables strictly need to be true Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4. This could still be essentially Thunderbolt 3 cable.

With USB PD 3.1 announced, we expect these cables to be discounted (since these only support PD 3.0 / 100W max). Even if most of us don't have USB PD 3.1 devices to test > 100W, we use every excuse to expect a better deal.

  • Lol such a short and funny deal. Shame
