How would the battery health be? Cooked?

    • +1

All batteries will be at least 80% of its health. We provide 1-Year limited battery warranty just in case if something does happen.

      • +1

Pretty please with sugar on top, what is the battery capacity of these (ie. The wh and cell count)?

        • There is actually a tonne of info on the service tag attached on the bottom:
          Dell 4-Cell 60WHr Internal Primary Lithium-Ion Battery

    • Dell batteries are cheap to replace so I wouldn't worry to much about the battery if its holding you back

Hi mate, there is two different pictures on this listing with vastly different bezel's.
One looks flush with the screen, the other larger.
Do you happen to know which picture is actually this laptop?

    • +2

The dell support link in the post looks like the smaller flush bezel one but yeah confirmation from the seller would be best

      Hi there,

Thanks for noticing that. Our team didn't notice that as they were direct reference images from Dell. The correct representation is the 16GB model. We'll let our team know to change the image for the 32GB model.

  • $999 sounds like a very jacked up RRP

  • Riddle me this: What is the one spec that every laptop buyer MUST know that is NEVER readily available?

    • +3

I don't know if this applies to every laptop buyer, but the two specs I'm normally interested in but always struggle to find are:
      1. If it supports charging over USB-C - makes travelling easier if you have one less charger to worry about.
      2. If the USB-C port supports alternate mode - more and more people are running dual-monitor setups these days

I will say that I've been out of the game a bit so if I'm missing something or am just looking in the wrong places, someone please feel free to enlighten me! 😅

      • If it supports charging over USB-C - makes travelling easier if you have one less charger to worry about.

Been around in high end business laptops from around 2017. It is on my X270. I believe also with these.

If the USB-C port supports alternate mode - more and more people are running dual-monitor setups these days

Seems to be around on my X270 and also on these units.

Only laptops that don't have these features are consumer laptops rather than corporate. Around the USBC check for the lightning symbol. Usually means charge and display via USBC.

Same, USB charing (fortunately this has it).
Screen nits brightness & battery WH.

Just sharing my 2c experience with the purchase last week. The laptop arrived unclean (with some sticky stuff next the track pad). 3 of 6 screws on the back were loose to a point I had to hold them so that they don't fall off. Had to tighten them to even place it on the desk.
The charger was included and it was dirty too. Luckily had protective cover on, so not that much of an issue

    • +1

"sticky stuff next to the track pad" - Oh my…

Isn't that the one and only thing that is cleaned up on a refurb? Lol…

      Hi there,

This is very concerning and we have personally sent you a message regarding your order. Could you please reply back to us that would be great.

This is definitely not our standards and is very concerning.

      • +1

Mines quite similar + crumbs to deal with. Have sent you a message too

        • I purchased one of these on this deal given the reviews of this place, however this is dissapointing…
Were you still happy with the purchase?

          • +2

@thedean: I've sent them an email as no one responded to my message here.

I found the fan to be really dirty and noticed the battery swollen, I've generated a battery report and it showed me the design capacity is 59,994mWh but full charge capacity being 26,380mWh so looks like my health is around 43% (if I calculated that right).

The laptop itself, when properly cleaned, is good, super fast for my usage + touch screen is responsive. Just a sour taste as I've maybe received a bad unit - will keep you updated when I hear from support

            • +1

              @iggerz: Thank you :)

              • @thedean: @RecomputeAus @thedean I've been speaking to them via email to resolve my issues, my battery life was horrible as it was 43% so they sent me a replacement battery which turned out to be a refurb battery that is sitting at around 75% battery health which is not what I expected. When someone says battery replacement I would expect it to be a new one ( especially since op said the battery will have atleast 80% in this listing). Moreover the battery was poorly packed, the box was broken and the battery was just floating on the bubble wrap rather than being wrapped inside the bubble wrap which is a major safety hazard.

Additionally, I asked for compensation but that was also denied, so it's been a really poor experience with this company so far :(

                • @iggerz: What sort of battery life are you getting?
Sounds like their QA process is lacking a little.

My battery life was excellent and I get around 6 hours battery life.
Coming from a work out Vostro for work which would be lucky to get 6 though (but its running an i7h processor) , so not sure how to compare it.

                  • +1

@thedean: First battery was less than 40 mins, the replacement battery I'm testing out as we speak but it's lasted more than 40 which is good lol. I hope I can get close to your number, but glad to hear your unit was in better state than mine :)

Just wanted to share with the community that i HAVE NOT heard back from the rep here or via the Recompute website. Not even an acknowledgement yet.

        • have you heard back from the rep? I also sent a message via Recompute website message but have not heard back.

  • Should I look at this or one of the E14's when they go on sale to cover years 10-12 at high school?

    • +1

IMO, I'd go for one of the E14's or even L14's.

  • I don't know about the 7x90 series but our fleet of 5590s seemed to be the last of the best from Dell.
I picked one up for myself from the e-waste pile as they were just so damn reliable.
It only had 8GB of RAM which I have just upgraded to 32GB this evening.

    • 7390 refurb I bought can confirm is a good unit.

  • +1

    16GB7490 Expired?

    • +1

Yeah said deal was inactive for me

  • Thank you for the speedy delivery, mine arrived on Monday (E7490 16GB). However it also had sticky stuff on the outside (where the optional smartcard reader goes). Had to do a significant clean with cloth and isopropyl alocohol q-tips (blackened). Had quite a lot of scratches on the cover but luckily the screen seems OK. Also came a HP power supply. Understand that's what we get with refurbished but will probably go with a new laptop next time.

    • +1

      Thanks for letting us know.
Personally if mine arrives like that I will likely return it.
Sounds a lot more like 'used' than refurbished. You'd think a refurbish would at a minimum include a clean!
Will be a good warning for future buyers.

  • +1

    Mine arrived today.
Little bit sticky around the outside as well, smells like a cleaning solution that just wasn't sorted out afterwards.
Also configuration on their website says 'uSIM' under connections, however the device does not have a WAN card, so bit misleading there.

Otherwise, the device came with only 1x 16gb RAM slot occupied, which was preferable for me, and with a battery remaining life of >90% which was excellent.

    • That's good to hear about battery. How was the external - ok condition?

      • +1

Quite good, but I wasn't too worried as I stuck a dBrand skin on the outside.

incase anyone else had issue with fingerprint reader being unresponsive - try this workaround by installing Intel Software Guard Extensions via Windows App Store:

    • Thanks for the followup, im giving this a try.
