Hello

Seems like a decent deal for a basic laptop with a great screen.

Specifications:

14" WQXGA+ (2880 x 1800) 16:10 OLED Screen 400 nits display with ultra-slim 4-sided NanoEdge bezels
Intel Core i5-11300H
256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD
8GB DDR4 RAM

EDIT - some more information:

  • Shipped from Newegg US, ASUS AFAIK has a worldwide 24 month warranty for laptops
  • Will need a plug/converter for charging
  • Screen has PWM below 50% brightness so keep it above that for best results :)
  • Only SSD is upgradable
  • Dark mode + dark colour themes, autohide taskbar and set screen to turn off after 15 min are good ways to mitigate risk of burn in

            • @vikaskamboj: That is not a solution for inbuilt 8GB RAM.

            • @vikaskamboj: Using virtual memory via the NVME drive would be much faster. The USB RAM feature is only a gimmick in my opinion

          • @buddysayshi: Exactly, but not everyone has multiple programs open at once. I'm definitely not that person though. My Zephyrus has 40GB of RAM with 16 threads lmao.

Still, I love this laptop. If only the RAM was upgradable, would have been an absolute steal. Still a good choice even with 8GB though. Try and find any other decent 16GB RAM laptop for this price, especially with a screen at this caliber

@Zackeroo: Screen is very good but battery life is mediocre as well on this spec.

    • I think they have plenty in stock. Got my dhl tracking no. and it's on the way.

      • same fingers crossed

wait till you get your hands on the laptop and notice the screen flicker

Avoid , just running windows and opening chrome uses almost 8gb

    • "Chrome" - well there's your problem

been using Edge for ages now. same thing but lighter

  • does asus honour the international warranty then?

  • guys make sure that you use a no foreign transaction charge card, just got hit with the foreign transaction fee, and the total is now $673 +$19 transaction fee

  • mine arrived in Australia, hopefully delivered soon

Mine arrived today, just realised that this specific model doesn't have the fingerprint sensor. Otherwise, the laptop is great, has a solid build and the screen is amazing.

Got it for my wife and she loves it already 😄

    • nice :) mine should be here sometime today

mine arrived as well. very good, installing updates now. 1st thing to do: uninstall fkin McAffee

      • yep, this laptop is full of bloatware

actually took just 5 min to get rid of: McAfee, a useless Asus screen management utility, couple of usual Microsoft additions like Disney plus etc.

cloned onto a larger drive (don't forget to disable bitlocker and wait for the decryption to happen) and all good.

go to support section and grab latest BIOS. mine came with old version (can't remember 206 or 207), latest one is version 300

otherwise everything else is working smoothly. editing and culling photos is a joy - once I upgraded SSD to 1tb I had from previous laptop

SSD upgrade procedure for those interested:
    - once you are through with the initial setup, go Start -> type Bitlocker -> go to settings and disable drive encryption. it'll take a few minutes to decrypt
    - probably a good idea to get rid of bloatware out of the box, why bother cloning that
    - install all updates, don't install any special software yet
    - install latest BIOS
    - update all apps in Windows store
    - now install a free cloning software (one of the Ozbargain deals contained a free version of Easeus Todo Backup), it allows free cloning. new trial versions don't. alternatively there are other options out there
    - clone to larger SSD using an usb3 enclosure
    - shut down, use T6 screwdriver to undo the screws on the bottom (make sure you remember which ones go where, there are 2 different sizes, and some screws remain attached to the bottom cover, not a user friendly setup)
    - pry open the bottom cover and swap out the drive. transfer the heat spreading tape, too
    - you might want to swap the original Mediatek wifi with an Intel one while you're at it. I didn't bother
    - replace the cover and screw it back up
    - no settings change in BIOS necessary, just fire it up and it will boot like nothing happened
    - enable drive encryption like in the first step. you're good to go

    • Are any of those steps necessary if I want to use the laptop as is?

Also, I'm planning to take it for traveling; what security steps do I take to secure its contents & online access in the even it is lost/stolen?

      Thanks!

not really necessary, but I suggest installing fresh BIOS and installing all windows and windows store updates. uninstall anything McAfee, and Asus screen manager (built in Windows desktop manager is better anyway. why bother with this clunky 3rd party alternative).

        • I've uninstalled McAfee but seems the Asus wizard (whateevrr it's called) is either hidden or baked in. There is no uninstall option.

  • super fast shipping and the screen is amazing!

  • Can anyone tell me if considering its 8gb RAM, I should consider a different OS or look for any specific bloatware to remove?

    • depends on what you're planning to do. I am doing photo editing on it, no complaints

  • I just registered the warranty by clicking Register Product in the following link and only got 12 months warranty:
    https://www.asus.com/Laptops/For-Home/Vivobook/Vivobook-Pro-…

OP mentioned 24 months international warranty?
