For those interested in either Seiko, look at some other photos or videos online before buying. The case has a strange cement like look that is hard to see in the Starbuy pictures which definitely won't be appealing to some.

    • You mean bead blasted finish? Not strange and it's pretty common for field watches, so as not to attract bright reflections. It's actually a nice feature on my Hamilton khaki handwind. Up to you if you like it.

What is strange is that date complication at 3 as well as the number, and no symmetry. They should have omitted it or the number. Most vintage style watches don't have a date, which I don't mind and quicker to set the time.

      • I wouldn't say it's bead blasted or even sand blasted, it basically looks pre-scratched/aged, matching the texture of the dial. This video shows it well. Is this what your Hamilton looks like?

        • Dunno, the Hamilton is bead blasted and looks great https://www.jomashop.com/hamilton-hamilton-khaki-field-mecha…

So I'm not sure about the Seiko but it's probably the finish they were trying for, but agree it looks terrible, the whole colour scheme is washed out and not even easy to read the time.

Edit: just looked at the vid on the PC - that looks rooted lol, they've tried to make it look too worn and scratched up.

      • It’s not bead blasted, it is distressed to look almost tarnished. There are 2 other watches in this Seiko that has this finish. The finish is also opposite from Matt finish as scratches sparkle.

There are Seiko 5 have bead blasted watches in some field options on nato but no this.

        • Yeah i know, saying bead blasted better

like the look of the citizen…looks like a WW2 military watch of some type. awesome dial and like the 2nd offset crown…quite a unique looking watch

100% agree. The colour combination looks great and that offset crown reminds me of the Omega.

yeah…the cream / black combo looks great huh? even the exhibition caseback looks alright.
id probably throw a different strap on there but what a cool piece nonetheless

    • It’s a great looking watch but the odd date window completely ruins the dial for me. I would have preferred if they had not put any date window on it .

      • yeh probably….pretty small too knowing citizen watches so kinda pointless. still …nice looking watch

jomw ….did an unboxing of 2 of the citizen NJ0140-17E variants….you get a really good look & feel for the watch

Grabbed the NJ0140-17E - retro mono looks super appealing to me, and automatic!

…just realised the rrp on the citizen is $600…thats probably way too much, but just makes this deal that much sweeter at under $200. good purchase!

Whoever thought the date complication on the Citizen was a good idea needs therapy. Appalling design.

    • I have the 84E version of the citizen. It looks much better in person. Agree the date window looks a bit out of place but I have learnt to ignore it.

      • the offset seconds subdial makes up for it though…i think that works well.

      • Awful hey. Good to take your time and look around at alternatives, but people will just grab anything because it's discounted. There are much nicer Seiko 5's too, no shortage of different designs.

  • Grabbed the Seiko 61K model… Solid price!
