Exapunks, Shenzhen I/O, TIS-100, and Human Resource Machine are all absolute bangers!! Defs recommended for anyone interested in logic/programming games. Been meaning to check out 7 Billion Humans too.
This is a pretty great bundle for sure!

Only downside is that all but Learning Factory have been bundled before. I have 4/7 already somehow.

I tried shenzhen once, realized I wasn't being paid to learn it and uninstalled.

Not to say they aren't great games though!

Haha yeah, I feel I should have uninstalled Satisfactory already! But it's still got me hooked.

I said the same thing about Factorio and Rimworld… 500 hours in

Curious, do these games help teach any particular language or is it more so to help learn logic?

    • +6

Just had a look at some reviews, and SHENZHEN I/O looks like it's teaching you machine code. Very low level stuff (and that does not mean easy) that most coders would never interact with.

But yeah, I imagine it's more about logic, which IMO is more foundational. Much easier to learn new language syntax if you already have familiarity with computing logic.

I agree with the comment above, this can seem like work.

      • Thanks for that, I've dabbled a bit with Python and C#, but sounds like these would be good to understand logic a bit better.

    • I've played Human Resource Machine and that's teaching the fundamental concepts (logic, loops, etc), not an actual programming language. Great game.

I got a job as a professional programmer by beating these games

    • really? lol do you put that on your resume actually?

  • -4

I don't get the point really, at this stage, if you're going to spend the time on these games then…

Why not just learn a real and simply and popular languages like Python that you can actually use on resume and for free?

    • +11

These are puzzle & logic games. They introduce some concepts that are common in programming but that's where the similarity ends. It's like saying what's the point in playing Call of Duty for free when you can join the ADF instead.

Why play a racing game when you can drive a real car?
Why play a sports game when you could play the sport?
Why play powerwash simulator when you could go powerwash your own things?
Why play Hitman when you could just become an assassin?
Why play a flying game when you could just become a pilot?
Why play a ______ management sim when you could just become a ______ manager?

      etc

    • I don’t have a problem with the games themselves but marketing them as if they’re providing tangible educational value seems like a stretch. It’s like that brain training game fad that was all the rage years ago.

I've got all of these bar Learning Factory, and will absolutely recommend this bundle
