Muscoloskeletal Pain - How to Treat ?

I saw this recently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUg-Qtwy1aQ, I reckon I have a hand full of issue like him. Is there anyone want in AU ( preferably Vic ) who can do that? Has anyone experience any treatment for musculoskeletal pain? Im really curious …

UPDATE: I think I will be benefit from the work on the arms, shoulders, decompression on spine. Not the hammer near rectum, I already 'crack my neck' daily. Thank you everyone …

Run away as fast as you can from that video

As a practitioner in healthcare who works very closely with allied health professionals (in addition to having my own neck injuries) aggressive manipulation like that is likely to cause more harm than good. There are less intrusive ways of getting the same results without having such aggressive techniques used on you.

The stuff he does in that video is likely to exacerbate any pre existing injuries

First of all you’d need a proper assessment of what is wrong with your body and then work out what the best course of treatment is. I’d be going to a physio or exercise physiologist.

If you’ve got long term pain or injury I would go to your GP in the first instance to get it assessed and scanned as required.

I really wish I could unsee the sh.t and bro science going on in that vid

Can we really trust the medical profession?

I remember there is this other famous asian guy who makes noises when he adjusts people's spine on Youtube. aka Master Chris Leong Tit Tar. Would that be safer or are his methods just as dangerous?

good luck with the russian roulette of getting a vertebral artery dissection. it's your neck on the line, quite literally

  • I showed this to a manual practitioner with 20 years experience. She said that his technique will kill someone.

      What's manual practitioner ?

      • +2

A physician who turns off autocorrect

      • Physio, osteopath, chiro, remedial massage therapist… any allied health professional that touches you up.

Just smoke weed and sleep on a firmer mattress.

A decent physio should be able to achieve the same results, just with a tad less aggression.

    • And touch less death or disability.

Just go and see a physiotherapist. If you’re fussy with a masters in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

  • Hammering mandrel up your @ss. Everyone at Bunnings can do that!

Depending on your personal condition, if it isn't a medical condition per se and one of lifestyle, exercise or posture then a physio/osteo will be the person to see. Like all medical professionals it's a bit of a lucky dip though so ask around your area for recommendations. The neck stuff in that vid looked a bit scary to me but chiros are trained pretty well in neck manipulation or if you are concerned they have other ways to address neck issues without the twisting and pulling.

But you didn't elaborate on exactly what your concerns are so it's a bit hard to say.

      Trained (by other chiros).

Chiropractic, along with most other alternative medicines, has never been based on scientific data or scientific studies. It's always been based on belief, anecdotal data, and the over-confidence of the practitioner (who is usually scientifically literate and doesn't understand the difference between scientific evidence and anecdotal evidence).

Here are a few paragraphs from wikipedia, an evidence-based encyclopaedia:

Systematic reviews of controlled clinical studies of treatments used by chiropractors have found no evidence that chiropractic manipulation is effective, with the possible exception of treatment for back pain.[8] A 2011 critical evaluation of 45 systematic reviews found that spinal manipulation was ineffective at treating any condition.[10] Spinal manipulation may be cost-effective for sub-acute or chronic low back pain, but the results for acute low back pain were insufficient.[11] No compelling evidence exists to indicate that maintenance chiropractic care adequately prevents symptoms or diseases.[12]

There is not sufficient data to establish the safety of chiropractic manipulations.[13] It is frequently associated with mild to moderate adverse effects, with serious or fatal complications in rare cases.[14] There is controversy regarding the degree of risk of vertebral artery dissection, which can lead to stroke and death, from cervical manipulation.[15] Several deaths have been associated with this technique[14] and it has been suggested that the relationship is causative,[16][17] a claim which is disputed by many chiropractors.[17]

      D. D. Palmer founded chiropractic in the 1890s,[22] after saying he received it from "the other world";[23] Palmer maintained that the tenets of chiropractic were passed along to him by a doctor who had died 50 years previously.

Here's a recent adverse event from chiropractic neck manipulation:

Really? You mean like surgeons are trained by other surgeons and mechanics are trained by other mechanics?

        • Really? You mean like surgeons are trained by other surgeons and mechanics are trained by other mechanics?

No I meant like homeopaths and reiki healers are trained by other homeopaths and reiki healers.

          Hope you get my point.

          • @ForkSnorter: I think so. I have a bevy of medical professionals in my arsenal including a good chiro, a GP, an Osteo, a nutritionist, a dentist and an acupuncturist. I choose who to see depending on the problem going on at the time. When it comes to health and healing I don't limit myself to one particular paradigm. Cheers

            • @EightImmortals: Three of those in your arsenal aren’t “medical professionals”. They’re “alternative medicine practitioners”.

Hope you can afford all these unnecessary expenses.

              • @ForkSnorter: Ha, you'd think that would be the case but between them all I might only them once or twice a year cos they are able to sort the issue out or put me on the right track so I have have to keep going back. :)
