Have one at home worst thing ever. As vacuum cleaner is ok but software is horible. I have even feeling that they intentionally make it worse over time. Constant map rebuild, if you have mirrors you are i trouble.

    • +3

I concur. I have the T8 & it loses it's map all the time & the app is not intuitive.

Evovacs do hook up to homeassistant & Alexa tho, so I persist.

Also don't bother with mopping on any of these vacs - it's similar to dragging a wet wipe around the house (I know you've all done this before, but it's not worth the extra $… just continue to use a wet wipe under your foot … if thats your thing)

      • +1

Lol what do expect with with traditional mopping, its the same thing..

        • +1

Usually you put a bit of weight into it though; robot vacs are light so less effective. There are some robot mops with a spinning mop that supposedly work well

      • +2

Have no trouble with this one. Have you selected multi-level maps in the settings? Once it finds its location again it loads the map back up.

        • Yes, that's what evovacs support said to do & it lost it again after a month.
And if that was the answer why isn't multi-level maps just the default - why even have single map mode.

      • I also have a T8.

I don't have the "losing map" issue but I almost only ever use Home Assistant to control it (timed to vacuum certain rooms on certain days / times). I even use it upstairs and downstairs (moving it is a manual process of course).

With the mopping I bought the Ozmo mop which vibrates rather than just drag a wet cloth around so it's ok. It's mainly used after I do a first clean of the food on the ground that the toddler has thrown.

Oh and with it mirrors, I just turn off "true detect".

I would've probably bought Roborock if they were available but I've not seen them drop to a reasonable price since 2021 prime day (missed out cause it came out at 2am?)

      • Some vacs have more advanced mopping. I have a Viomi one which yes, just drags the wet cloth around, but to be honest it does a good job of getting minor stains off the tiles. I am pretty happy with it. I just use a regular spray mop and clean any really dirty areas before I run it on mop mode.

    • I agree with map rebuild, just use the clean area rather than auto function, and in regards to mirrors, that's all robot vacuum with lidar just use masking tape on the lidar height.

      • I have two kids. I need to be able to clean those areas i need. Sure i could close door to their rooms, which I am doing but i am just sharing my experience…

I've had the N8+ for the past 1.5 yrs, and I get the same issue around maps being erased, happens every month or so for me.

However I've recently picked up on a 'hack'. Could be just me, but when it loses the map, I return it to the dock. Wait 5 or so mins, then pick it up and drop it somewhere in the house. 8/10 times it picks up the old map. The other 2 times I restart the same process and usually it would work.

      YMMV.

      • +1

Exactly such a simple thing if something go wrong pick old map or give a choice to select….

    • +2

      thanks for saving me $399

We have one, bought it last time it came one at ALDI. We quite like it, though I've never had a different robot vacuum so can't compare. On hard floors it works well and some of the short haired carpets as well. We've got one scruffy carpet it always gets stuck in so have to role it up. You also have to make sure there's no wires on the floor it can get entangled in.. All in all we tidy up for 5 minutes, putting chairs on table etc. Then it takes about 45 minutes to clean the 4 br house.

We run it every other day and do a thorough vacuum ourselves once a month to get into corner, under sofa, etc.

    • We had circle carpet i my daughter room had yo replace it as robot was going crazy. For us its also first robot but again next one definitely not deebot….

      • For most robot vacs, you should be able to make a no-go zone on the software map so the robot will avoid that area. But also unless it's a shaggy rug, it really also shouldn't be a problem.

        • Yes but if you loose map twice a week you give up

          • @vovikdrg: I didn't think of that as the Dreames I've had have never lost a map, even the F9 which doesn't have LIDAR.

      • I guess the robot does as it intends to. Jusk * Sucks

Got one from aldi 2 years ago. If you want an entry level robot vacuum then you're not going to find much better value than this.
If you are expecting it to be the same as a $1k model then you need to temper your expectations

  • +1

Loads of them in my local Aldi yesterday, no-one is interested. Stick vacuums however were all gone.

    • Oh i have dyson v8 never regret it. Bought it 6 years ago and just replaced battery… one of the best purchases

  • +1

Software apps is an issue to these kinds of "smart devices"

  • +2

I have the N8 which uses the same software i am sure, I don't have any issues with losing the map, Mapped my place well and identified all the separate rooms, which I have allocated to Kitchen living room bedroom 1 bedroom 2 bathroom and hallway myself on the app to I agree it didn't like my mirrored cupboards, it seems to think that room is bigger than it is, but I added a virtual wall to my map so it doesn't get lost looking for a way into the void. I also added a virtual wall to under my pc desk and near my speaker stands as it will grab cables at any opportunity lol, I love my N8 , does a great job, can't say I know about the Neo, but I am guessing its just the same device but with a unique name for ALDI . Anyway, $400 is great value for this type of vacumn. especially as it has true mapping.
    https://eftm.com/2022/09/ecovacs-and-aldi-team-up-once-again…

However saying that the N8 is often $400 ish either on ecovacs Amazon or Ebay store, so don't worry if you miss out.

    • +2

Same, got a N8 on the last deal posted here on ebay. Very good, no real major problems. Mapping is a bit funny but if you spend the time to map the house properly it seems to be ok. Like others have said if you picked up the vacuum it might think you have a multi floor house and it will try and build the second map, which looks like it deleted the old map but hasn't.

Not the most intuitive software, weird routes sometimes, eats cables. I mean for $400 I'm not complaining. Once you have it setup properly I don't really have problems ever. Integrates into Google home, responds to voice commands. I'm even impressed by the mopping, if you start with a clean house and don't walk mud all over the floors it's fine. If you have pets/kids it may not be the best for mopping and you should probably get a better one.

  • It was $299 back then. For this price is too expensive for ALDI

    • Back when? It must have been a different model, the last $299 they had didn't make a map of your house for efficient cleaning.

    • Okay so this deal *Sucks

  • Is it working if there are lots of toys and objects on the floor?

    • You will have to disable that area or robot will get stuck

    • If it can climb over and get stuck then no. You need a relatively debris free area.

    • just afew lego pieces will choke the unit

  • Deez botz

  • Got one from Aldi last year I believe. Same model and price. Works well, only once had an issue where it got into the garage (don’t know how as I’ve set it to not go past the door), and it got super dirty.

Haven’t had any issues since then, auto cleans every 2nd day and I just have to remember to empty it. No mopping as I have laminate flooring, have a few shag rugs, no issue. It can sometimes open our sliding robe doors, then tries to go in but usually knows not to open it.

  • This is how the robot uprising starts….

  • +1

Mines great, barely use my dyson stick. But home is flat, down and upstairs, no other elevation.
    Heaps in stock

  • We got one last time they came up, and bought one for my FIL who also loves his.
Great for hard floors. Small dustbin needs emptying a couple of times as it goes around the house, or running several times a week.
We use the app to keep it off the rug though, as our rug gives itself up to any vacuum & clogs it up.

Yes, it gets lost occasionally, and it's lost its map a couple of times, but overall it's a real timesaver for us, so completely worth it.

  • Well they got sold out like hot cakes. People queued up from 8am. I picked up the last one. Hoping to get the base station as well (where it empties all the dirt). Anyone knows a link to where I can get one?

    • definitely heaps of stock at 12pm lol

  • I will agree with everyone the software is atrocious. Also recently they pushed full ads into the app when you launch it. The mapping editor is trash and I have luckily always been able to recover my map when it rotates it or loses the map doing my reset method but it's pretty bad overall. The bot itself is pretty good. The mop function is pretty useless.

Don't recommend on the app alone.

  • +4

At ~$400 it's getting close to the sale price of far superior robot vacuums like the Dreame l10, so I don't think this is a very good deal. Definitely not worth fighting the madding crowd at Aldi for this.

Spec wise it doesn't seem better than the Viomi V3, which goes on sale a fair bit cheaper, but comes with much better software.

  • I had one on the first Roomba vacs and it did a good job on hard floors. I stopped using it because my wifes long hair together with our 2 dogs hair would always clog up the roller brush. It was more trouble to take it apart than the time it saved.

Have they fixed this problem on the new models?

  • Still Waiting for a deal for roborock maxv ultra…

  • +2

I had one until it broke. I think they are great! My whole house is polished concrete so I don't know how well it goes on carpet.

Since my old one broke I went and got this from aldi yesterday. Mapped the house and cleaned it while I was out later that day. Perfection.

Sometimes it does dick out and lose the map but if your out, just let it remap and clean. No biggie

    1. mop function is useless in any products.
    2. Brush should be two. One is useless.
    3. needs pre routine like picking up nearly everything on the floor even chairs.
4.Great to lazy or busy people.
    • Robot vacuums only need the one brush to sweep the blind spot they have where they can't get to the edges of the room/objects (this is for circular robovacs, D-shaped ones don't need brushes but tend to navigate worse). Two brushes actually makes them clean worse as the second brush functionally does nothing except it can scatter debris causing the robot to miss it.
Quite a few robot vacuums on the market are able to avoid small objects on the floor, but nearly all of them should be able to navigate around chairs.

  • +1

Yeah the app is utterly useless and loses the map periodically. The mopping function is a waste of time. There’s no way it gets anywhere near 110min run time. Having said that I’m very glad I have one, it vacuums fairly efficiently and runs to its timetable (goes to charge itself then finishes the job).

  • Bought mine earlier this year. Love it. I run it almost daily on schedule. The only issue I had with maps was when I moved the dock.

  • I'll second what everyone else says - it loses the map all the time (though sometimes at least it will 'pick up' the map after it's been cleaning for a while). The mop is useless, it's just wasted dustbin space in my opinion. The app is horrible - feels like they got the work experience kid to write it.

I'd also say that the vacuum on my n8+ has just failed after 9 months (and it was idle for about 4 of those) - haven't heard back from support yet, so I don't know how well they'll handle it.

  • I will never buy Ecovacs brand again, I have a Deebot and its battery is gone in less than a year.
I could replace it but nahh.

For 329, you can buy a Eufy RoboVac 25C at Amazon AU which I just did.
It appears to be better brand. I doubt this Ecovacs actually mop something.

I've been waiting for a deal on a budget robot vacuum for an entire year, but every time one comes up there are comments full of people shitcanning it. The alternatives they suggest will later come up on special, and the comments there will be shitcanning them as well lol.

What's the best robot vacuum around the $400 price point?

Like any device I buy, YouTube is the best source.
Look at the reviews, the neutral ones will give you a better understanding of what is good or not.
I am staying away from Ecovacs brand, mine dies before finishing the cleaning. Battery is RIP already.
I am trying Eufy know that appears to be a better brand and more solid.
YouTube, check it before buying anything.

      • Good advice, yeah I've been relying solely on OzBargain comments which is probably a dumb thing to do haha. Normally I do go to Youtube, not sure why I haven't done that in this case. I've been considering getting a new phone and spent all morning on Youtube checking reviews just this morning.

    • Interested in this as well. Was about to go for this aldi one, but then read all the negative comments about it :/

  • Does anyone know how tall this is and whether it has any difficulties cleaning under beds? thanks
