Car Transport Taking Too Long

I bought a small car interstate (car in NSW, I'm in VIC, paid for door-to-door pickup & delivery).

The logistics company estimated 5-7 business day delivery.

It's been 13 business days since the car was picked up from NSW (and 18 BD since I paid - yes, it took 5 BDs to pick up the car).

I've called the logistics company twice per week since they missed the 7 day delivery and the almost immediate response is:
"It's in the NSW depot. It will be transported later this week. It will arrive early next week"

I've also been told "the car is on it's way to Darwin" to which they then backtracked, and also "the car is arriving today" then backtracked again.

Is there anything I can do to get a better update? Find the location of the car? Fast track the delivery?

Any advice would be helpful!

I'd almost say that that 5-7 day initial timeline was an understatement.

  • Should have put a GPS tracker inside the car so you could find out where it is.

  • Big transport company or small guy?
Maybe ask for a partial refund considering you are not getting the service to which you have already paid for.

    • Small company - they do have a HQ near the Melbourne Airport.
I'll give the refund a go. Thanks!

What does your contract say about what you can do if they don't hit their deadline?

    • Thanks! I hadn't thought of reading through it so I'll have a look.

  • Similar supposedly happened to a guy I was talking to at a car show.

The transport company had damaged the car and was getting it repaired but didn’t tell him, the thing was that the car already had damage in the same area and he was only buying it for the drivetrain and would have just accepted a refund/discount on the transport fees. At least that was his story.

  • The bigger companies will have an online tracking that shows the location of the car, have you checked if they provided a link to this and see where it is?

    • They don't have online tracking unfortunately.
I've asked several times but they don't provide it.

When I speak with them, they mention "we need to check with the carrier" and put me on hold for a few minutes (while they presumably call the carrier asking where it is) so they're not even the company that does the actual transportation.

Funny - I have seen a parcel being sent by Australia Post sitting at a depot in the next suburb over to mine for more days than it took for the package to make its way from China to Australia.
Maybe they use the same system?

I've just had a package be in Sydney, disappear for 6 weeks, reappear in tracking in Sydney, come to Brisbane where I live, and then it was sent to Melbourne. So close Auspost, so close.

  • Car is on its way to be parted out.

  • Border police are dismantling the engine to check for drugs. It should arrive within the week, dismantled engine in boot.

  • go pick it up and drive it home .. chances are it'll be destroyed by these clowns trying to ship it…
    Heading to Darwin ??? WTF

    • Yeah if I knew it would take this long and this much screwing around, I'd happily driven it back home.

  • How much did this service cost you?

    • ~$700

      • Get your $700 back adn go pick it up… train to sydney and drive home next day.. .pocket a few 100 change.

  • The car has supposedly left the NSW depot.

When I asked about any sort of compensation, they said they don't offer it.
I argued their estimate (understanding it's just an estimate) is way off target and I wouldn't have purchased it knowing it would take more than double the amount of estimated time of 7 business days, and the response was "sorry, we don't offer compensation or refunds".

    • Did you suffer any loss?

    • that's fine, just detail your experience in as many reviews as possible, keep it factual, so that they have no basis to call for their removals. odds are they will come crawling back to you with a refund, if not, at least you save some other poor bastard from using their crap services.
