Long time reader, first time poster; I created an account just to comment so some poor bugger doesn't get ripped off. Read the whirlpool forum (eluded to above) for some real horror stories. We bought a genset from AGR (against our better judgement but they wanted price over quality) and sent it to the Solomons . It died within 6 hours of use and for 3 months of asking for the spare part they fobbed us off that they were moving factory. No spare parts, no service afterwards, completely denied anything to do with it after it was out the door. Contacted ACCC and they said they had many complaints and were looking into them (though ACCC seems to have very little bite as they are still in business, probably under a different phoenix company).

I am sure they get a few items that last awhile or so (such as Perkinma's below) but personally I would NOT BUY anything from them. It may be cheap, but if it lasts for 6 hours - is it really that cheap? If it is too good to be true, it usually is …

      • Wow, you took this to the Solomons? My Dad worked there in the 90's, anything not military spec just wouldn't last, the very high heat & humidity kills everything (though not Fisher & Paykel fridges if I remember correctly).

      • You definitely don't want to go budget on something important like Generators especially if you are running it inverted (aka electronics/computers/sensitive equipment require an inverted signal MOST of the time).

We would only ever use Honda branded Gens <6.5kVa.
Not saying Honda is the only choice, there are other brands which are far less of a risk (Aussie Generators, PowerTec (think they changed name), Robin/Subaru branded)

If you value your equipment, you really should spend the extra to ensure cleaner power OR correctly/clean inverted power.

Make sure you really do your research before buying from these guys. Not saying don't buy (I have bought from them in the past), but go in with your eyes open.

For example this is listed as 4kva which many people (based on a lot of the feedback I have read previously) assume means 4kw. It does not. This particular model is actually only rated to 2.7kw. And if it is anything like the one I bought it will trip out at 2.70000001kw, you will not be able to squeeze a few extra % out of it.

Plus the quality is not necessarily great. For example the fuel cap on mine separated into component parts within 6 months.

But of course the flip side is the price……

Yeah I agree with @perkinma. I bought a Honda pressure cleaner off them years ago for my business. Had to take it back to them at my own cost and they replaced with another unit which I again had problems with outside of warranty. In the end had to take it to a third party to make changes to the valve which cost me more money out of my own pocket. Sometimes saving money on machinery is not worth the time/effort and money. Be cautious, personally I would not recommend.

Agreed - this is DEFINITELY NOT a vendor who you want to buy from. One of the largest and worst on eBay. Total shonks.

Read the eBay feedback - specifically all the NEGS (not private feedback hides what the products are). Read the (massive) thread on Whirlpool.

I am negging this deal as a warning to NOT to deal with this company (and I don't neg often)

Is the delivery van a hired white van with a couple of british backpakers?
"mate, i've got a cancelled order and the boss says I can just sell em at cost"

  • AGR are not a company I would ever deal with again.

  • Anyone even considering these machines which are just "cheap chinese crap" should read the whirlpool thread!

  • not free delivery
