Sorry. It’s my first post and I forgot.

If it is I should be able to get a refund 🤞

literally wasting money, this is the equivalent of ddr4 2666. people were recommending that when ddr4 first hit the consumer market and look where it is now. ddr5 5600 is the sweet spot, hold for price drops

    • +6

actually hardware unboxed has just done a few series on this speed ram and now recommending it for new builds over expensive DDR4 (and that was with Crucial DDR5 which was more expensive than this)
Plus you're future proofing for when prices go down.

        • +5

At this price you don't need to keep it for 3 years. It's a great short/mid term option whilst you wait for better ddr5 memory to come along at a decent price. You can always resell it in a couple of years for close to what it's costing now since 32gb of DDR5 will probably always be $100+ during that time.

        • +5

          its not $1000, its $140 for 32gb of ram….
like it or not this is currently a bargain, if it was around when i built my 12th gen system i would have gone DDR5 over DDR4.

@Lonewolf1983: Totally Agree!! Imagine having a ddr5 Little server in the future and need bunch of these (life time warranty), 69$ for 16Gb what could even worst? 50$ on boxing day? 😅😅, USD vs AUD said opposite

          • @Lonewolf1983: zen 4 proves ddr5 4800 is garbage.

            • @dfg555: whatever helps you sleep at night champ
              I run 12th gen with poxy timing 3200mhz DDR4

        • +3

The test shows ddr5 4800 cl40 was superior to ddr4 3200 cl14. You can't compare ddr4 and ddr5 only by mhz and latency, ddr5 has higher bandwidth due to architecture improvements.

When ddr5 was announced the presentation slides talked about a 30% improvement in bandwidth, all other things being equal. That was completely ignored, apparently what teenagers say on reddit holds more weight than what engineers say, until some famous YouTuber does a video.

Where did the idea that ddr5 is trash come from?

    • +3

Hardware Unboxed did a few tests using DDR5-4800 CL40 comparing to DDR4 3200 and it beats it in majority of the games they've tested.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IstA56IAeVA - It's time to leave DDR4 :)

      • Yep, essential watching for those unaware ;)

Any decent deals on DDR5 motherboards? Saving money on ram, but the motherboard prices still seem high.

Once intel 13th gen comes out, and the new z790 boards, all z690 board's will start being discounted.

Black friday might work out perfectly for picking one up.

      I'm hoping for a gigabyte gaming x (ddr5) for somewhere between 200-250.

  • Hmm, I wonder if I should pick this one or the same model but Crucial?, thanks everyone

    • Not many review for Adata brand, hopefully this may win the lottery in term of IC controller or overclocking heat room, Hmmmmmmm??!!!

    • Crucial is micron and micron ddr5 sucks, might as well roll the lottery with adata. Worst case it's micron anyway and I doubt there's much difference in pcb/pmic in these low end kits.

      • Yeh, hopefully dual rank at best, but I feel like ddr5 16Gb just being like a ddr4 8Gb (~90% single rank)

        • +1

The only way to get dual rank 16GB sticks is x16 chips since 16Gb is the smallest they make and afaik there isn't a 2Rx16 pcb design yet https://www.jedec.org/standards-documents/focus/memory-modul… (mostly because it's sorta pointless since you end up with the same amount of banks as 1Rx8). ddr4 started with 4Gb chips so you could at least get old kits that were 2Rx8 8GB sticks.

I bought 64gb and don't even know why.. lol

      Helping to clear inventory

      • I'll be buying a 7950x at some point but that could be a year away and the ram could be completely useless. doh

        • I got it too, 139$ is pretty cheap, no rgb though lol. Im planning to get the X3D versions this time, going to be a while.

          • @kehuehue: Yeah same… Could be well into next year at this rate..think i'll offload the ram onto gumtree

            • +1

DDR5 4800 - is pretty much similar compared to DDR4 3200. This is for a lower end CPU.

Probably will return the kit or sell it.

              • @kehuehue: Yeah.. it was always going to be a slow kit hence why it's pretty much been discontinued everywhere. I don't even know whether it'll be compatible with 7950X3D, so won't hang onto it..

  • My understanding is that the the system board should support DDR5-4800 CL40 Memory

    Is this backward compatible?

  • And sold

  • -4

    wow that was quick.. but it's okay cos i already have 2x 64GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Royal 8800C15 DDR5.

  • Back up to $119 now :(
