Aurora Power Bill - Paid Late

Hey everyone, new to OzBargain Forums here but definitely not new to OzBargain.(I am also unsure if this is the correct forum for this?)

I just paid my Aurora bill online as I couldn't find it (accidentally deleted the email) and realized that it's a week overdue. What are the chances of me having an overdue bill due to this?

Additionally open to alternative providers in Tasmania if there are any recommendations? Like everyone here, wanting to lower the bills where possible as we head towards a recession.

Thanks.

I dont know for a fact but "1 week", you have nothing to worry about, no way in the world they'd penalize you for "1 week" late…

There's only one other provider in Tassie and their rates are basically the same as Aurora, they offer some sign up or solar incentives but they're basically cancelled out by the transfer fee, I think it costs about $100 to switch between providers…

Edit: Hmmm, they "may" hit you with a $5 late fee according to this, but I have my doubts they would for a once off 1 week late payment:

    • Cheers! - $5 is nothing but still an annoyance.

I'm still getting used to home ownership ~9 months later

Annoying that we do not have any other providers here.

Well, the Gov kinda owns the majority of the generation and transmission in Tassie so it's a bit pointless having a bunch of retailers hanging off the end…

In the old days it was all the "Hydro", then when the gov wanted to sell it all off they split it into the Hydro, Transend, and Aurora, kinda a stepping stone towards privatization…

IMO essential services shouldn't be sold off to international companies, they should be kept in public hands, "we" need to control them, not some shareholder/director/CEO sitting in an office in Singapore/China or the likes…

Oh 100% don't even get me started on the hydro and power costs here and how utterly ridiculous it is.

Im assuming you mean what are the chances the late payment have been recorded on your credit file, and the answer is basically 0% if its just a week late.

If you hadnt paid it they would send multiple reminders, phone calls etc before taking it any further

    • Cheers - Was more concerned about the fees but this is also good to know too.

  • Why not set up direct debit?

I personally don't like giving an open authorisation for companies to debit whatever they choose from my account.

It makes negotiating unexpected charges etc a lot harder when they already have the money

    Lesson learnt. Move on.

We're all good - Got a "Due Immediately" email the day after I'd paid it and there wasn't a late charge.
