Double Parking Penalty Notice NSW

Okay, today I received my penalty notice of Double Parking and have to pay $283. As per the photo, council was driving car opposite me and took photo for me to appear I was really double parked. As per the photo attached, obviously i have my left indicator on as the gray car’s driver came in and about to move so I waited for his spot.

Edit: i was inside the car

Haha so you provide additional info in comments that completely changes things (waiting for at least 2 MINUTES blocking the road) and don't allow changes to the poll response. I guess you get to enjoy all the 'fight it' votes while you pay your fine.

Your car was stopped in that position for more than 2 minutes. That is a key fact that you chose to omit from your post. Given that fact's pertinence to the decision to charge you with double parking, it is obvious why you left that out. Pay the fine, you were double parked.

Some people tell stories to convince themselves and mislead others by telling they didn't do any wrong and also feign victimhood. Council sends him two photos, OP only picks one with an indicator on and uploads it.

Stayed there for at least 2 minutes blocking the street (2:44pm-2:46pm), should be a fine for double parking and another fine for wasting everyone's time.

    • -5

Old mate in the park taking at least two minutes to get the hell out of the spot. Should be a fine for being a time-consuming prick, instead.

  • Hopefully they'll change the fine to blocking traffic

  • Sounds like a fair fine for the inconvenience you cause to others. The road not belong to you.

NSW is the nanny state of Australia

Because many "adults" are behaving like toddlers

Whats the go with the councils these days offering Drive-by infringements?

The margin of error is huge when you just drive, snap a pic and keep going.

Councils are the most corrupt sub-entities of government NSW has. Just a hoard of money-hungry pigs.

Everyone has a case until a fact that is detrimental to their case emerges upon further investigation.

Holy Entitled , what make you think you can wait on a single road and block all traffic for 2min.

The worst part is you dont even realise you have done something stupid, holding all the cars behind you.

@mods, can you please put this important detail in the OP post, He was jerk on road for 2min holding all the traffic for a car park

You know they have the right to charge you court fees too?

189 Double parking (1) A driver must not stop on a road if to do so would put any part of the vehicle that he or she is driving between a vehicle that is parked on the road and the centre of the road.

      • What's the definition of stop? If it means stop, then what happens if there's a stationary car in front or traffic lights etc?

        • +1

Who cares. OP is the modern Rosa Parks

      Here's a tissue

And two full minutes to dry your eyes

That's because you omitted a key piece of information in your post. Many people have made it clear that they thought differently once they found out you waited for 2 minutes, possibly more.

You either did so deliberately to mislead or you did so without realising it because you have an inflated sense of entitlement thinking it is OK to hold up a lane for 2 minutes or more so you can get a parking spot.

      Which one is it?

    • Your MAJESTY, I have 13 Demerit points

I think you'd be in big trouble if this was the case…

OP waited for 2 minutes. PAY UP!

waiting for 2 mins for other cars to move is a d!ck move. majority voted to flight in court, but they didn't know you hide the time laps.

  • Pay the fine, i won't let you off.

PS: CENTERLINK is Federal, your penalty is issued by the State NSW.

Another option is "A Current Affair" …. this is a golden opportunity to test your acting outraged skills. You can also add your own twist by adding an accent, a Tourette's back story and a dream shattered by this cruel and unfair fine.

  • +1

Let us know if you get off when you fight it

    • I'm prepared to bet money that won't be happening.

I'm of the mind that its more likely to see a "I took ozbargain advice and unsuccesful appealed a fine to a magistrate, so now I've got extra expense (on top of time off work). Can i take Ozbargain to court for liability?:

4th Option Pay the fine because you were there for 2 minutes. Entitled much?

  • +2

2 mins might seem long but if there are no cars behind and the driver of the parked car gor in and signalled he was leaving, i don't see an issue. People on here are over reacting as always….

  • +1

If the car doesn't have indicator on to leave the spot/pulling out already, move the (profanity) on. Sick of assholes ignoring road rules because its convenient for them.

  • You could say you were reverse parking into an empty spot behind the parked black Mazda. ;)

    • And how do they explain sitting there 2 minutes first?
Entering information into the time circuits?

      • According to my link, the 2 mins isn't required. It's just "stopping"

  • This must be the first ozbargain post where the op might actually have a legitimate reason to not pay the fine.

    • What's the legit reason? You saw the law above right?
