  • Thanks I don't drink coffee but I have some non-coffee aficionados staying with me soon. Needed something for them.

Would the ground coffee be fine to make in a french press?

    • +2

Haha yeah, I'd be very careful of giving Harris to anyone that's really into coffee.
Better off grabbing a bag of the single origin Brazil beans from Aldi for a few bucks more and quite an enjoyable roast for those on a budget.

      • +4

He did say they aren't aficionados, my non-afficionado doesn't mind Harris coffee at all, but a couple of friends think the ones that aren't "strong" can be a bit on the weak side.

And yes the ground coffee is fine for a French press

    • +1

      Yep that will be perfect.

  • +2

Good retail coffee. But nothing compared to good fresh roast

  • +15

Harris is the worst coffee I've ever had the unfortunate experience of trying.

    • +1

It's good enough for cold brew

  • +2

Took some of that Moccona Reserve camping and me and a friend tried it black and white…I don't even know what to call it. It's just brown drink…worse than International Roast. For reference I don't mind normal Moccona at a pinch when I don't have my Aeropress when I travel.

    • What is normal Maccona out of interest?

      • +1

        Not reserve, eg moconna #8

      • Just any of the freeze dried.

  • Thank you, cannot go wrong at this price and Harris Smooth Coffee Beans is not that bad, especially with oat milk

    • What brand of oat milk do you like? I've found a great almond milk but looking for a good almond milk (creamy barista style for frothing).

      • You said almond milk twice

        • Haha, opps, I meant…
I am looking for a good oat milk :)

      • +1

I'm not OP but my favourite is VitaSoy oat milk. Go with the refrigerated ones, they're not too expensive either (~$2-3/L). I honestly prefer it over regular milk. I hate minor figures with my coffee though, and apparently that's a lot of cafes' go-to.. so my taste might be shit.

        • Great, thanks, I will give it a go.
I've tried Minor Figures also and I wasn't a fan.

        • I second this. The VitaSoy ones are good. I drink regular milk but my wife can't - she loves the VitaSoy oat milks (both the unsweetened and milky). I've tried them and they're pretty nice. Other oat milks she's tried just taste rank.

      • +1

Uncle Tobys Barista Style Oat Milk is quite good

  • +1

I like this coffee, ordered a few bags. Cheers OP.

Aldi coffee is the best of the cheap stuff

  • +1

Cheap per kg but coffee is the one thing you dont cheap out on , buy fresh local roasted blends for the win

  • Are these better than Aldi beans?

    • +2

      No

    • +2

Depends on your taste. Here's how I would describe each

      Aldi Lazzio Dark: Chocolatey sour
      Harris Strong: Bitter
      Harris Very Strong: Burnt

    • Tastes are subjective. For this price buy a bag and see if you like it.

    • This one tastes like someone's shoved 'em up 'is 'arris

  • +2

I prefer Aldi's Medium roast blend. It's gone up in price and now costs more than their single origins, but still decent value.

    • It costs more than their single origins? Since when?

      • My mistake. The single origins have also gone up lately.

    • +1

      Single Origin is $16.99.

Almost think someone has been printing cash for 2 years.

  • I ordered the Moccona Barista Reserve Coffee Beans - Dark Roast 1kg a few weeks ago, gave it a go last week through the coffee machine at home, I was impressed at the taste and its bargain price.
I'd bite and order another bag now but I've used maybe 1/10 of the bag so far, will prob wait and order next month even if it goes up a few dollars.

  • I prefer the Aldi briazil single origin or dark beans but for $9.44 I do buy the Harris strong beans and grind as required, they're fine if not the best taste out there but for the price can't be beaten!

If I run out and they're not on offer I wouldn't bother and go back to Aldi beans as they're subjectively better tasting to me, but the difference isn't night and day, just a little more rounded. Obviously not a coffee connosieur!

  • Thanks OP, got a free Prime trial so picked up a 1kg bag of the Smooth Ground Coffee for $10.49.
Good enough for this coffee drinker, and RRP at Woolworths is $26 for the same product, so I'd say it is a bargain.

  • Because I'm a baller, I get my coffee at ALDI. Only time I'm going to say that, lol.

  • Oh crap. I went to order 3 kg of these. But then I recalled the water quality is crap here.

    • Thus I purchased 4x 20x 4.5" water filters. To enjoy tea and coffee again.

  • Aldi coffee is ok but can be hit and miss. The only supermarket coffee that is on par with roasters is Sacred Grounds Breeze from Woolworths (you should be able to get it within 3-4 week from roasting date). They actually print the roasting date on it.

  • Harris has a roasting date too based on the pack I received yesterday from this deal and it says roasted 22/07/22

    • Step in right direction
