Portable Plug-and-play Hi-res USB DAC with Auto Mute and Two-way Noise Cancellation via SmartComms Kit for Conference Calls

Like how the PLAY! 3 fixes your computer’s broken audio, the PLAY! 4 does that (just better), and is purposefully designed to simplify the way you communicate online with an all-new SmartComms Kit for Windows PC. Featuring a suite of smart communication features, the SmartComms Kit debuts VoiceDetect that automatically mutes and unmutes your mic during a call without you lifting a finger, as well as NoiseClean, a two-way noise cancellation feature that helps get rid of all static background noises (fans, vacuums, hair dryers) in your own environment as well as your co-workers’ on the other end!

Not only that, we've also kept it simple with a direct mic mute button to manually control your mic, and a built-in EQ button with quick audio enhancements like Bass Boost for more impactful sound, and Dynamic that expands your soundstage—that both works great with any type of content—music, movies, and even games!

Automatic unmute sounds like trouble waiting to happen, eh?

    • We really need NoiseClean to include expletives.

    • You may disable that function anytime if you prefer not to have it!

    • Automatic unmute sounds

no good for leisure night videos.

Does this come with Dr Sbaitso?

That's a blast from the past. Good memory.

  • Bought one of these on the recent deal.
Was an impulse purchase, but really happy with the product. It really enhances the sounds on an android phone and windows PC even without the software installed.
Got it plugged in between my PC and edifier speakers and it will just stay there giving my sound quality a nice little boost.

  • How would this compare to the line-out 3.5mm jack on a PC motherboard? Or would that be entirely dependant on the board? Currently using it with some little Sony bluetooth speakers (via line-in), but not sure if adding this would make any difference.

    • I was previously using the internal soundcard on my Surface Book 3.
It markedly improved the sound quality I got from my budget headphones.
If you're using a got XM4's, though (or some other headphones with their own DAC) you won't see any improvement

How would this compare to the line-out 3.5mm jack on a PC motherboard?

While some PC motherboards have poor audio quality, most are adequate. It comes down to whether you'll be able to hear the difference. Hearing degrades after age 20, so the older you are, the less likely you'll be able to tell the difference.

It's easy to test the simpler aspects of PC sound quality - hiss and hum. Place the PC next to the door of your room, plug headphones in, then go on the other side of the door and close it, making sure the cord of the headphones goes under the door. This will isolate you from most of the PC's fan and other noises. The PC should be turned on and doing something that accesses the HDD but doesn't normally make noise, like checking the HDD for errors. Listen to the headphones. Can you hear any "sssssss" noise, any mains hum, or any other noise? If so, a better sound card will almost certainly improve the situation.

(Mains hum sounds similar to your microwave when it's operating).

If you don't hear anything, play some music, just to be sure the audio isn't muted, and you have the headphones plugged into the correct socket.

Sometimes you will find that a PC's rear-panel audio outputs sound okay, but the front-panel ones are not so good. It's a good idea to test both.

  • how would this compare with internal pcie sb cards, like the audigy fx (around $60 - twice the price of Play! 4), when paired with $200 desktop speakers?
would i hear any difference, or negligible?

  • Would be neat if there was something to give 5.1 analogue output

  • This vs a $15 google dac adapter?

Is there any plan for the software features to be available on a Mac anytime soon?

  • Would this work plugged into a Phone?
