so stoked to find this for the price! $32

Same, but what did I just buy?

  • +9

Dont even have laptop or PC at the moment. But need to be part of this community.

  • +6

guessing this is to compliment all the expensive headphones ozbargainers impulse bought that need to be driven with amps?
like the HIFIMAN HE-X4 and Fidelio X2HR?

edit: oh nevermind, seems irrelivent if no mic on the headset

    • +10

This is a low to bottom of the barrel tier dac. Seems to be mostly useful to those without a headphone/mic jack

      • +7

        But Sound Blaster yo!

        • +31

          In 1995 I'd be excited

        • +5

Do we still need to set IRQ settings for these?

          • @jaimex2: Not if you want to live(!) on the edge.

            • +2

              @rinco: The Audacity!

              • @jaimex2: They need to head to Turtle Beach… perhaps meetup with Roland.

        • +1

          "Your soundcard works perfectly!"

      • You'd be absolutely shocked how incredibly good these DAC's can be, actually. The apple one for instance spanks a lot of devices 10x it's cost. Electronics are getting very dialled in nowadays.

But you will need an amp to apri with it as a signal source for any decent cans.

        • If you had decent cans and amp, you shouldn't be using this piece of ****. You can get good DACs for around $100, starting with something like Topping D10 or SMSL Sanscrit 10th MKII. Most people would go a dac/amp combo like Topping DX3 Pro, but that is $300 or so.

This product seems like it is for someone who just needs a headphone jack on their macbook for zoom calls.

          • @Budju: Neither of those products are portable, and neither of them are remotely close to $100 in Australia, not even via Amazon, so where exactly are you commenting from champ?

For the price and for it's purpose, this is a fantastic device.

            • @[Deactivated]: In most cases it's probably better than nothing. I only paid $100 for those dacs, but indeed it looks like they've gone up in price.

  • +2

Would have bought it..but my work laptop doesn’t allow any software to install 😟

    • +2

Your don't need to install anything to use this (except for additional features.)

  • +1

How much does it normally sell for?

    • +3

      $45

      • Thanks. Just realised that it is apparent when we try adding the product to cart.

    • +4

Right! We don’t need to know what it is, but do need to know how much of a discount we will get!

  • +3

Bought two (only need one but the free shipping was enticing and if the product works a treat then I will find a use for the second one).

I can finally resume listening to my 3.5mm headphones on my Android since the jerks took away the 3.5mm jack.

    • +1

I might be wrong here but this seems more suited for voice calls especially in meetings.
For your need, you might be better off with cyrus soundkey or an equivalent.

    • -2

You can get 3.5mm female jack to USB-C on AliExpress for a couple bucks.

      • those always get mucked up after a few weeks of active use. Im hoping this one will actually last a year or two. Plus mics sound awful coming from those cheapo adapters.

      • I bought a couple aftermarket ones and found they had a background hiss/static which was very annoying. Been using the genuine google one for maybe almost 2 years now

    • +5

If you haven't already signed up for JP Hifi perks you can sign up, get $10 voucher, buy a $15 Apple USB C to 3.5mm adapted. $5 and likely all you need, according to Crinacle (well known audio YouTuber).

      • +5

        Yep, this is the way.

      • Honestly don’t know why they’re not just using the Apple C to 3.5mm…
Let them buy their DAC though ig (Ik there’s a physical mute button but it’s probably more reliable to mute your mic digitally..)

      • +1

Does anybody know if this adaptor will work with a samsung S21 phone ???

    • -6

Strange - where's the flood of totally objective comments from very stable Android fans bemoaning the removal of the 3.5mm jack? When Apple did this it was portrayed as a war crime.

Silly me, why would Android fanbois be here? It doesn't say "Apple" in the title.

      • +2

You quite literally replied to an Android user who bemoaned them for removing the 3.5mm jack.

  • -6

    $15 and highly rated.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-usb-c-to-3-5mm-head…

The only benefits of this device appear to be gimmicky auto-mute and preset EQs.

    • +6

Very different not really comparable products.

    • +3

Physical mute button is worth gold when doing video meetings.

  • +3

How does this stack up to the Fosi Q4, which can be had for pretty close price at the moment if you have ebay plus
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/203682426913

    • +1

I bought one of those a year ago and it has a constant soft humming sound. Same result with different cables & other devices. Though I could have just got unlucky with a faulty unit.

    • Q4 doesn't seem to work with headsets

    • Would also be interested. But i own a Q4 and im either not particularly impressed by it or im no audiophile because i cant tell the difference between my gaming headset and my AKGs

  • -4

$32.95 Women round down $32, men round up $33 +$6 = $39 (in the title?)

    • What are you even saying?

  • Bought! Do I need headphones now?

  • +3

DAC + Stereo Headphone bundle - $64.95 shipped. Pretty good deal

I hope you guys used a no oversea transaction fee card. This mob process payment oversea.

  • Brought 2 with free shipping, thanks.

    • Where to?

  • +5

The soundblaster G3 is down to $59.95 down from $84.95 also. I got one the other day and i love it! I use it mainly hard wired straight to the ps5 and i connect my sennheiser hd560s's to it and it powers them great. Used to connect the headphones straight to the controller and it could only just power them but with this i've got more power and better sound. And actually use it with my series x controller too using a 3.5mm cable from the controller to this unit. So it's just boosting the signal from the headphone output from the controller. Either way i'm loving the G3. :)

    https://au.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-g3

    • Right in that sweet spot to qualify for free shipping.

      • +1

Yep,i think i'd rather pay a little more and get this one than the one in this post.

        • Yep that's exactly what I did.. I almost bought the OP dac. But for the price the g3 is gonna suit me better. Probably just gonna use it for my PS5 as well.

    • Price is back up to $84.95

      • +3

Use Promo Code OZG3 to get it at $59.95! Valid till 28 Aug :)

    • Thanks bought G3 instead.

  • +2

I bought 89.95 one -creative sxfi amp - is it Better?

    • Yeah bro, for $90 can't complain. Top notch 😂👌

    • same. seems to be a top tier headphone amp

    • I was looking at this too but it looks like they have released the Sound Blaster X1 which is new but looks identical to the Creative SXFI Amp:

      https://au.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-x1

Not sure if there are any differences but the Sound Blaster X1 doesn't mention that it will support Android although the quick start guide does suggest it will work with the Super X-Fi App.

Also, it's interesting to see what while the Creative SXFI Amp has a sale price of $89.95 (reduced from $229.95), the new Sound Blaster X1 is priced at $109.95 (not currently on sale).

  • creative still make good sound cards so the Dac should be worth it.

  • I have a work laptop that restricts installing software. What performance improvement can I realistically expect from this unit in terms of conference calling without the custom software?

    • Depends on your set-up, this will offload the processing of the audio to the unit. If you have a newer laptop might not make much difference.

  • -1

Looks like the software features (noise cancelling) are for Windows only.
Strange in the age with all the Macs around.
    Sad and Pass.

    • +4

I can understand a company being content not catering to 15% of the market.

    • +1

The next market share competitor would be Android. Macs would be in the range of Chromebooks ~6% & even less attractive due to better audio options.

  • +2

Great price, but do i need this with
my modern pc laptop or 5 year old pc desktop?

  • Is this beneficial to use with studio monitors to get hi-res lossless music playback from my Mac?

    • I would say no. If you've got decent studio monitors you're better off with something more expensive/permanent. This is really just to improve some laptop audio or for portable devices.

  • 24bit/192khz. She's a lower-mid range DAC that doesn't do extra power.

It's decent enough for non-audiophiles, and comes with some decent WFH QoL features.

  • +1

still using my sound blaster 16 :(

  • Got the soundblaster G3, getting some crackling when playing, evidently it is a common occurrence. Doing a factory reset seemed to help though…
