Recommendations is not to buy this microphone because "it doesn't perform well in any use case"

    Review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zv4T0IxZM6o

Thanks OP though - I still + it because its a cheap microphone.

Another review techjioblog, this time the correct mic.

Hard to find one in English on youtube. Here is another one:

      Watched it.
What's the issue here? Sounds quite good.

    • i dunno sounded fine for a $29 mic imo

      • That mic isn't the right one. It retails for $59 at JBHiFi

      • -1

It's horrendous; sure you can probably filter out the droning hum from electrical interference using sensitivity settings or a noise gate, you'll notice the voice is bass-less and very "annoying" to listen to over time.

Sure it's only $29, but please don't come anywhere near me with that mic, you can do far better for $29. (Below suggests the mic in the video is actually $59, so I don't even want to know what this mic is like.)

For example, this mic is $10 and is far better; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Lf3gS3Oqm8 (still bad, but far better)

        • I just did a search for the mic you referenced, the: Labtec AM-242

You can't buy this thing anywhere for $10 and it's mostly available in the US not Australia?

there's CouRageJD version of Razer BlackShark V2 for $89 on Razer direct

includes usb sound card and very good mic

add another thing (there's number of things on sale, I grabbed a $70 laptop stand) and get free shipping

    • Are you talking about this item?
      https://www.razer.com/au-en/gaming-pc-accessories/Laptop-Sta…

Looks like that's normal price and also I think it is overpriced. You might be comparing the price to another Razer stand that has RGB those are ~$250.

You can find full aluminum laptop stands with very similar design on Amazon for $11 to $25 that hold the laptop in the exact same position.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Desk%EF%BC%8CStable-Stand%EF%BC%8C…

Delivery is free on first order, or around $6 extra if not. At which point you may as well just pay $7 for one month of Prime Delivery and Prime video so you can watch a bunch of video content as well. Much better value in my opinion.

      • I'll be honest with you: I can't remember if I tried those specifically, but I went through a number of laptop stands from no name or known brands, ended up returning each of those.

I have a Razer Blade 17, none of the stands I tried hold it without wobble, or have rubber in the right places, or are constructed in a way that doesn't block the vents on the bottom

Razer laptop stand ticks all those boxes, laptop sits super solid on it, zero wobble, laptop only touches rubber, vents aren't blocked. perfect. and I don't care about RGB on the stand.

P.S. I have had Amazon Prime for 2 years now. I know, it's a solid value. I got a few super good games from it for free, and music. and movies.

        • "or are constructed in a way that doesn't block the vents on the bottom".
The ones I shared should not have that problem. As you can see the laptop will have free space underneath it. They also look pretty stable to me. I know the folding ones are all pretty crap.
Maybe the ones you tried were designed like these.
          https://www.amazon.com.au/LENTION-Aluminum-Portable-Microsof…
          https://www.amazon.com.au/Aluminum-Ergonomic-Adjustable-Note…
Which I can see will block airflow.
The only way I think a laptop will get bad airflow is with something solid behind the whole back, like when you put it on a desk.

If you really want something that is exactly like the Razer stand design I am sure you can find one if you look hard enough.

But it's your money so it's up to you. I just think the Razer is a bit much for a piece of aluminum with some padding on it.
If the Razer aluminum is 4x the thickness of the Amazon ones then maybe, maybe I will consider it for $70.

  • Knart has very cheap usb gaming mics, i had picked one up a year ago for $2 and been great for team meetings

    • Which one are you referring to?

      • Dont think its on website anymore, may be in store as they always have clearance items, but i purchased it a year ago

  • I'd already purchased the Razr one for $50 just the other week.

    Works great.

Wish exactly makes it a “gaming” mic?

      the RRP

      • RGB, RRP and other TLAs

Just wanted to say I have this mic and at $29 you probably won't find anything equal or better. Friends have the budget simplecom, zalman type mics and there is a noticeable difference.

    • Thanks for your insight. I'm really trying to justify buying it. I have so many headsets that I haven't even used sitting on my bookshelf. Do I really need a separate mic?

      Edit: I caved…

    Gaming Desktop Microphone

But no RGB - false advertising!

    • I concur!!! Blasphemy if you ask me!

        Not even R or G or B!

        • actually it is R for Ripoff

  • how does this deal with noisy keyboard sound or talking in the next room?

    • +3

Maybe not exactly the info you want but this guy does a few tests with the microphone. Not English though so you'll just have to read some of the info on the screen and listen to his voice and the noise. I am also wondering about how keyboards will sound in the mic. This will be my first stand alone mic.

  • A gaming microphone without gaming specific features. :D

  • +4

One issue I had with this mic is that it was very quiet. Windows could only boost the USB mic volume a limited amount so I had to use third party software to do this.

    • +1

That's a deal breaker for me, damn.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll just have to see how I go with it.

    • How close do you have the mic to you? When I use it, it's basically right in front of me (between my body and the keyboard) and I've never heard one of my friends say that my volume was too low.

    • Usually the game or app you're using has volume controls for both your output and your friends input which can be changed so that can effect it quite a bit if you're all out of sync. I have mine about 40-50cm away from me and have never had problems with it

  • I have this mic. Only problem is that it has no mute button on it for convenience. To mute, you'd either have to disconnect it, or mute via whatever software you're talking through. Otherwise, sound quality is pretty good (no complaints from the friends I talk to with it) and it's pretty small so doesn't occupy much desk space.

  • hello? #23 to the Snack Bar please…

Everyone knows that to have a successful video channel you must have the mic cover at least 1/3rd of the screen, on a big mic arm.

If you have video aspirations, I would advise against small unobtusive microphones, especially microphone placement just out-of-frame. The 'rule of thirds' dictates the mic and arm must cover at least a third of your frame. Coloured LED lighting in the background is also a staple of all successful YouTube channels. It goes without saying, really.

Anyway, this mic just doesn't measure up. It doesn't come close to covering a third of your frame, and therefore you may leave it to the peasants.

    Thanks OP!!

Purchased for WFH/gaming purposes. Nice and small so it's not an eyesore on my desk. Tested it out at distance (roughly 50cm) and the sound quality wasn't that bad. If you're planning on a long chat/discussion however, I recommend to move it closer as there is a noticeable difference.
