Condensate Tray for AC Unit on Apartment Balcony

Does anyone have any experience with installing a condensate tray for an AC condenser on an apartment balcony?

I purchased an older brick 2nd floor apartment last year and have been told by body corporate that the condenser unit installed by the previous owner discharges water directly down the wall from the balcony. I have been told that since there is no drainage on the ground below or downpipes on the side of the building the balcony is, I am required to install a condensate tray under the AC condenser.

In my searching, this was the only option I could find Heater Tray At $550 it seems rather expensive. Are there any alternatives available?

Why not funnel it to a pot plant. The water should be safe for plants to drink, other than being so pure that it will lack minerals that plants crave.

    • Plants crave electrolytes, not minerals.

      • Electrolytes are minerals

  • How high off the ground is it, could you catch it in a bucket?

  • When we had an apartment, there wasn't much condensate each day (didn't need to use the AC that much). We used a takeaway container and emptied it every morning or let it evaporate on hot days. YMMV.

Ask why did BC approve previous owners' installation without drip tray? and why now it's on you to solve? I'd think running it into a 2lt ice-cream container would be fine, but add a rock or small brick to keep empty container from blowing away on windy days
