  • Get a transaction account that comes with a debit card and no account keeping fees.

        Works fine for me.

      • I have a Debit Mastercard, can buy stuff everywhere (including online with it). Need to be 18 years or over though to apply.

        • No you do not need to 18 years or over.

        • I'm pretty sure you do have to be over 18 because its a debit "mastercard"

EDIT: looked it up and its 18 for some banks while 16 for others. I stand corrected.

        • No you do not need to 18 years or over.

Yes, you DO, at least through the banks. With the reloadable cards available through Woolies, Aust Post etc you don't though.

        • I stand corrected

The commbank one doesn't suit the needs of the OP though - fees are too high

        • Being under 18, I assume he is a student. As such all fees etc. are waived.

      • You're thinking of Keycards.

    • visa debit card. you might need to be over 18. i recall someone mentioning that you could get a mastercard debit card from cba if you are over 16.

  • citibank plus or nab classic

    • I already have a NAB Classic and its a bank account, not visa. So I cannot use PayPal.

Also Citbank plus is only for over 18's.

check what the age requirements are for a visa debit card with your nab classic account. you can then use it where visa cards are accepted but you can only spend the money you have in your linked transaction account (ie, no credit)

  • I would help if you had indicated you approx. age, as it seems to matter.

  • Plus you have to pay a load fee with all the prepaid cards, so while you might escape a transaction fee when spending you dont get away fee free

  • I'm under 16…

    • Ask your parents if they are willing to open a savings or transaction account in his/her name and let you operate it since they seem willing to buy on your behalf. Still cheaper than a prepaid.

  • Why do parents have credit cards, if not for the use of their progeny?

Answer : why do some people have credit ?
because they have no progeny !!!
