NSW

NSW Customer Services Minister Victor Dominello said people in the state can get a new digital driver's licence issued instantly via the Service NSW app.

A new plastic card will be issued within ten business days.

The new licence will cost users $29, with "reimbursement advice will be issued by Optus to customers in the coming days".

QLD

In Queensland, new licences with new numbers will be issued free of charge.

Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Queenslanders will need to visit a Customer Service Centre to get the new licence.

"An Optus data breach notice or written notification from an enforcement authority is required, along with evidence of identity for the new licence," Bailey said.

WA

In Western Australia, you need a police report number to get a replacement licence.

This has to be done in person and not online.

SA

In South Australia, you can replace a driver's licence online with a mySAGOV account. The government will waive the $20 replacement fee for any South Australians affected by the breach.

NT

The Northern Territory government has fees to replace licences in some situations but not in others. It has not addressed what will happen with this data breach.

ACT

Under current rules in the ACT, anyone can replace a licence online if they make a declaration and know their address, existing licence number and date of birth.

    • Regular fees will apply for the licence.

      of course. greedy bastards.

      • On a plus side the license renewal fees are significantly cheaper.

      • +1

Thats farkt… should be paid by Optus.

        • there shouldn't be a fee to begin with. these people are not contractors, they are not paid per licence issued or some other crap, they are salaried, everything they do is factored into their salary.

the gov is double dipping, yet again.

Victoria are (trying to) making Optus pay for replacement ones so The Age says

  • What about replacement passports? Apparently both have been compromised…. No point doing one but not the other :/

    • You can get a replacement passport if you pay for it. Optus Data breach

      • +2

Lmao what a joke. Hope Optus cave again

      • +4

Why the hell should we be paying for anything ? It was a dereliction of duty , and Optus owes all customers a replacement as and act of good will . As for our so called government , they should force them to but they don't …..

    • And, don't forget Medicare cards.

      • Haven’t seen that they have stored Medicare cards at all? Doesn’t show up when accessing API on my account

      • Replacing a medicare card is easy as and free though. Not sure if mine was compromised (my email said my ID numbers were exposed but i dont remember if i gave it to them) but it took a few clicks on the app to replace it..peace of mind I guess

        • Replacing a medicare card is easy as and free though

It sounds like you have never had to replace one.

You’ll have the same Medicare number that you did before, only the last digit will change. Your old card will no longer be valid. We’ll send your new card to the address you give us, in 3 to 4 weeks.

          • @DoctorCalculon: Yes I have never had to request a replacement due to losing it or having it stolen. Is that a bad thing?

  • i'm in nsw and got the email but apparently no ID documents have been breached can i still apply for 1,
other details like date of birth and address have been breached though.

    • How do you know what’s been breached? My email said potentially all of it but I got it back on the 24th….

      • No financial information or passwords have been accessed. The information which has been exposed is a combination of your name, date of birth, email, phone number and/or address associated with your account. No ID document numbers or details have been affected.

        that's the email i got

        • +1

lol got the same email. don't trust them…

          • @[Deactivated]: I got this on Saturday night with a bunch of other useless information. Does that mean I can go and get a New Licence number in NSW?
I went yday and had to pay 29 bucks to get a replacement licence but they only issued me the same licence and with a different card number, not a new licence number. They said I need a police report for that….

"It is with great disappointment I'm writing to let you know that Optus has been a victim of a cyberattack that has resulted in the disclosure of some of your personal information.

Importantly, no financial information or passwords have been accessed. The information which has been exposed is your name, date of birth, email, and the number of the ID document you provided such as drivers licence or passport number. No copies of photo IDs have been affected."

            • @TChalla: The information which has been exposed is your name, date of birth, email, and the number of the ID document you provided such as drivers licence or passport number.

Yes you should. Can't trust them. They contradict themselves and say some aren't affected when they are.

Lol, no point in getting a different card number when your license number is same. Doesn't take much effort to guess expiry.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: You can find out exactly what is exposed through following this process. For me, seems to be just drivers license.

                • @evasive: Yup. Good info.

But I pretty much can't as I don't even remember the password for the account. Also I only ever had Optus to activate prepaid sims…Also I had some previous Optus accounts attached to various emails that can no longer be accessed.

Obviously that requires ID but I can't really do much. I tried all the credit score stuff and they all can't identify me rofl. Maybe it's because I've never taken out credit. But the crooks could use your id and create bank acc/crypto acc and start laundering money/scamming.

          • @[Deactivated]: Totally agree , no photo I d but they possibly got your licence or passport details. Last time I looked , it has photos on both ….

      • You can see what info of yours they have saved. Follow these steps: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12718401/redir

My address was compromised, Optus should buy me a new home.

    • +5

My DOB was compromised, Optus should rebirth me.

      • +3

Are you sure you'd really want Optus to carry you to full term?

        • +4

          It starts with yes

  • If the NSW replacement licence just has a new card number and they will not replaced your licence number unless there is actual fraud there is no point getting a replacement if you have received a new licence since signing up. Not only that, I’ve changed address several times as well. Correct?

There’s not much I can do about my street address linked to the account or other details other than ditching Optus.

  • +3

Dont worry…. Optus are going to pull a ShopBack and just post up a $3 sim deal with 100gb of data and all the simps will forget that their data was even leaked.

  • Those affected in WA might be able to get new driver's licence numbers soon according to the ABC

  • So, they got my licence, any change/updates on new NSW licence fees being waived? (I mean, this IS ozbargain, so …)

  • Random question, if retailers want photo ID for click&collect orders will they accept the paper licence (which has no photo)..

  • -1

does changing the license means do I have to goback and change all my services (internet, banking, mobile etc) to reflect the new driving license number ?
