PSA: Fuel Excise Discount Ends Tonight

The discount is due to end from Thursday, September 29, meaning we have few hours to fill up or lock in the best prices.

Although the government and the ACCC claim prices shouldn’t jump immediately, I suspect the cartel running servos around the country will add the 22-24 cents 1 minute past midnight.

    laughs the fuel company executive

Yeah it went up 50 cents before start of the school holidays but don't worry ACCC is standing there and looking retarded as usual, basically an old Pitbull with no teeth

It seems to me that the fuel cycle pricing is a bigger difference than this.
The price changes (in SA) over the past few weeks are close to 50c a litre in the space of a few days.

Brisbane has gone from ~157.7 on 12/09 (Mon), up to ~165 on 16/09 (Fri; last day of school), ~180 by 21/09 (Wed) and has peaked ~190 from 25/09 (Sun) and floated around that level up to today.

Been going up ~15 cpl every 5 days.

Singapore is sometimes touted as a good bellwether for our fuel price, and their fuel price has gone from ~$3.35 at the start of July down to ~$2.84 early August and is now ~$2.76.

Crude Oil price looks to have been on a downward trend since early June where it peaked ~$123.15 (USD per barrel) and it's got down to a low of ~$76.28 (USD per barrel) this week. Crude price has dropped by ~40% in 3 months.

Looking at the same dates as per my petrol pricing above (which is partly-misleading as price changes to crude do take time to come through, especially decreases) we've seen the petrol price increase by ~20% between 12/09 and 25/09; and the crude price decrease ~10% between those same dates.

The price of around 190 cents a litre is already there TOO HIGH without the fuel excise. ACCC need to come to fine companies and set an example for companies to stop robbing Aussies

Hasnt even been midnight, and price is already 20 cents + higher than 1-2 day ago

  • Have a full tank now - all good. Using most of it tomorrow to drive back home - hope there is at least one somewhere I can fill up when I get there.

good, stupid tax cut to start with other than to win votes by the last government.

apparently cost more than child care subsidies - and u know how much i love CCS * sarcasm *

  • Yes, it jumped about Thursday last week 1/2 the servo's at 1.49 and the other half at 1.95. Was that way for a few days. Now everyone is at 1.95.

    What a joke.

    • That was just the regular pre-school/public holiday jump. The 22c starts from today - but it supposed to apply only from when the servo gets a new delivery.

Back to $2.50/l for 98 tomorrow guaranteed. Wife and I have locked in a few 7/11 codes tonight to tide us over

    *Laughs in EV*

    • I’m sure the spark suppliers are going to up prices blaming extra fuel costs for delivering their sparks.
