I wont miss them tho, they were always expensive.

        your loss. really.

imo, they are like the noctua of GPU world. no dramas RMA, cards that out last other brands.

        • Noctuas last decades. I have them myself. Video card you need to upgrade after 4 years. All these cards do is lower the temp by a few degrees. I have used over 5 video cards till date from different companies including sapphire for AMD cards to Gigabyte and MSI for nvidia. Never had any problems or noise issues.

Currently on a GB 1080 GPU with fan replaced with cheap 12 cm p12 case fans and its more silent than evga would ever get.

EVGA is good no doubt, but you can get away with similar performance with cheaper prices.

          • @John Doh: i think you are lumping a lot of different evga cards into one monolithic thing.

the fans are a moving part, not saying you won't get lemons with evga. it is a strange thing to be fixated on though, because that's usually the most common thing you can address pretty early on. (I had 2 of my r9s RMAed because the fan noise at low speed they made is atrocious)

but i can safely say i worked with more cards of differing brands since the release of amd's r9 290s and personally own some, like the evga 1080 hybrid that still works well into today.

personally wouldn't touch another GB anything. I wouldn't stop others buying it though.

            • @slowmo: The only reason I changed my fans on the GB card was because I had purchsed a heavily mined card where even the heatsink was oxidised back in the days, The fan had a little rattle, so I ordered another set of fans for 15 bux. Later just decided to put case fans for better noise reduction instead of GPU fans. Even to date that GB card Boosts to over 2000Mhz easily, OCs like crazy. Not sure why people hate GB. Maybe some models were bad, but not all. But again, i had no issues, so I cant speak for the people who really had bad luck with those cards. But it wont make me spend more on EVGA tho.

              • @John Doh: in a much earlier past life, was a systems builder for an SI where they stock only GBs because the next best (MSI) is a dollar or a couple dollars more dearer.

i spent more time RMAing things alone than actually building things to sell. they eventually stopped custom builds and went full dell. best day ever.

while i no longer do that, i still stay in touch with people in those industries, including resellers handling RMAs… it's a recurring theme.

I wouldn't convince/dissuade you, because there's no benefit for me either.

i wouldn't buy evga now, but for different reasons. All i can say is you probably missed out on good products.

                • @slowmo: Probably you are right, am not saying you are not. But in todays market, if you see newegg reviews for MSI, ASUS, GB etc. I dont see GB faring as bad as people say they would. They are on par with other brands. Sure EVGA is ahead with slightly better ratings, but the price premium is definitely there.

                  • @John Doh: well, on one part, we don't have to worry about evga premiums anymore… and we will see in the upcoming years, who will fill that void in the GPU space left by EVGA.

considering nvidia is undercutting the whole lot, time will tell.

Hardware stability is not the only factor that drives be to a purchase, it's also the software (eg firmware updates and frequency)

i find that very lacking in a lot of the brands… even asus which is the other brand that i buy frequently of.

  • Wha? No video cards?

  • I love EVGA, all my gpu are from them, but this one doesn’t even have rgb fans, nah better to get the meg 280 for $10 more. The quality issue has been solved by MSI. Also the lga 1700 bracket is hefty $17

Fans are loud as shit. Expect to replace them or be annoyed. Decent air cooler is much quieter.

    • thnx was about to pull trigger, u saved me.
