Dimplex 70cm Heat & Cool Air Circulator Pedestal Fan $149 Delivered @ kg Superstore via Westfield Direct

120

Based on another OzBer's recommendation, I got one of these Dimplex Heat + Cool a while ago, love it (it's like a combination pedestal fan / air circulator / heater). A nice touch is the head is brought back to neutral position when you turn it off.

Awesome deal for $149….also I didn't know westfield had a marketplace until just now.

Manufacturer info here: https://www.dimplex.com.au/en-au/heat-cool-air-circulator-pe…

It has a remote control, 2-way oscillation (left-right and up-down), timer etc.

  • Any idea if it uses a DC motor? Would be an awesome deal then.

    • they don't mention DC motor so I don't think it is.

It's as noisy as a regular pedestal fan. I think it's much less noisy than my vornado air circulator though, that one has quite an obnoxious drone.

      This one is DC

At these prices, I'd pay the $30 extra for the DC motor.

Also, has 30 speeds instead of 5 speeds as this one has…

        Doesn’t have heating though ,
        Hence cheaper

          • @jv: Fail!
            Shame, jv, shame.
            🤠

            • @mrgeckoz: Not a fail in my case. I am looking for an off the floor DC fan and I don't need it to be a heater.
Price could be a bit lower though.

    • Why is DC motor better?

      • +1

Less power consumption, as well as less fan noise (generally).

      • +1

        More choice in fan speeds.

  • how good would this be at cooling ?

    • +1

If what you're getting at is that a fan doesn't necessarily 'cool' in the sense it's just blowing existing air around as opposed to reducing room temps, you're right but when it comes to marketing, rules are often mangled/broken.

Ahhh so when it says "Designed to be used all-year-round to circulate cool air from air conditioning, hot air from heating" it means it acts well when combined with a secondary heater which heats or air conditioner that cools ?

        • +1

no, it has built-in heating element with thermostat

          • +1

@andresampras: any cooling element or air con cold making abilities ?

            • +1

@TerryJustTerry: no dude, if you're looking for an argument you won't find it here

              • +1

@andresampras: I'm not! - just not electric-minded and wanted to check - appreciate the clarification :)

                • +1

@TerryJustTerry: It says in description Capacity: 40W Cooling / 1800W Heating. Not sure how it does but has some cooling capacity as well I believe. I am also interested to know if it cools as well though not sure what 40w can or can not do

                  • @niagraBzO: That sounds more like a power consumption rating.

                  • @niagraBzO: That would be the fan’s power consumption.

There’s no magical cooling function here, it’s just rotating blades in what they refer to as ‘Cool’ mode.

Similar to the Dyson Hot & Cool I believe

                • @TerryJustTerry: Lol I could’ve sworn you were trying to make a point about how companies shouldn’t use the word ‘cool’ for a fan, the evils of marketing etc etc

                  In summary:

Heating element: Yes, with thermostat (ie. you set temp in the digital readout, and the heating element turns on or off depending on detected room temp

Ability to reduce room temp: No, just spinning blades, as with any other fan or air circulator
