  • What is that huge silver button/dial at the bottom for?

    • +2

      It's a cover for a physical keyhole

      • +33

Click out of one, two is binding.

      • So you can still pick the lock?

        • I bought a different brand smart lock and watched a YouTube video of it being picked in about 15 seconds. One option was to replace the core with a higher security lock (don't know much about this one, whether it is secure or you can replace the core), someone in the comments mentioned filling it with epoxy.

    • Escutcheon plate

  • I have this, works brilliantly - finger print takes ~2 seconds to work

    • Agreed - I have the wifi version - used to be hard to turn the physical dial from the inside a few times (like it was jammed), but Eufy have recently updated firmware and seems to have fixed it

      • Interesting, mine does this sometimes - maybe once every few months. Haven't seen an update though, when was it?

        • +2

Updated 24th Sept according to the System log - current versions:

          Firmware: 1.4.2.8
          Subsystem version: 1.1.1.6

          1. Optimized the deadbolt stuck issue
          2. Security mechanism update
          3. Fixed some other bugs
          • @tpopi: I have this model (T8510) and my firmware is 2.0.2.3? It is saying this is the latest? I assume your model is the wifi with different firmware versions?

            • @Rhetto: Yes - I have the wifi model - T8520T11

      • Yeh mine is doing this. I haven't updated to the latest firmware yet but I thought it seemed like a physical thing, that the dial was binding.

Will update and see if any change.

BTW, how's your door close sensing? I've given up on mine, it was getting to the point I'd have to recalibrate twice a day….

Fingerprint reader is good tho, much more responsive than my Samsung

        • +1

We have this lock on the back door and use it quite a lot, so the "jamming" thing was happening at least 3-4 times a week (only when using physical dial - if I used the app instead, it worked fine) - has been 5 days since firmware update and hasn't happened yet
Door close sensing seems to be ok - haven't had to recalibrate so far (about 10 months usage)

          • @tpopi: Yeh mine is doing it several times a week. Updating firmware now, fingers crossed …

    • Yup same, works great

    • +1

Are 2 seconds to read a fingerprint and unlock considered quick? Serious question. Sounds long to me, but I've never used such lock and opening with a key takes a fraction of a second (assuming I make it to the keyhole at first attempt and my wrist is healthy).

      • How long does it take you to find your keys, put it in and turn?

        • I get your point, but I usually have them handy to slash a potential perp.

          • @pizzaguy: I still think the timing is around the same of finding the right key, putting it in and turning it. It really is pretty quick. 2 seconds is the total time of reading your fingerprint and unlocking the door. The fingerprint read is near instant.

      • +1

For a phone it's slow but for a padlock on your door it's not really an imposition.

  • +1

    Bought!

  • +2

Note, this does not have Wifi - T8520T11 is the Wifi version

    • +2

      What's the difference?

      • +1

WiFi. So you can lock/unlock while you are away.

This is only bluetooth. So need to be nearby.

      • Wifi version probably allows easier integration with google nest / apple.

      • +2

Remote unlock/lock, alerts you who uses the lock (based on profiles e.g. I can get alerted who in the family has unlocked the door and how), create remote codes/access for guests, setup auto locking at a particular time, connects to Eufy hub, can sync with Eufy doorbell as well - as mentioned, can connect to Google/Alexa (you can lock/unlock and check status using voice commands)

        • Why would you need remote codes for family instead of just giving them the code?

How does it sync with the doorbell?

          • @YellowKnight: Remote codes would be for guests - I have setup fingerprint and code access for each of my family members from day 1 and haven't changed since (had it for almost a year)
It integrates with the doorbell by putting in door lock controls on the doorbell video stream, so you can control the lock when watching the live streams (without having to switch between devices in the app)

Looks like Bing Lee is selling that one for $399
      https://www.binglee.com.au/products/eufy-smart-lock-touch-wi…
Bunnings is more expensive, at $499
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/eufy-smart-touch-lock-with-wifi_…
So in theory you should be able to 'beat it by 10%' at bunnings

      • on the same in-stock item that's available for same-day delivery or collection

        It's special order.

I was going to say, sorry, that's the Bing Lee model, we only beat the price on the Bunnings model, which has an identical model number to the Bing Lee model.

If you hold down on the reset button, does it erase the pin code?

    • +2

Most likely, and then lets you punch in the new code. And yufi will be "looking into it" for the next 5 years. Contemplating what they should do.

    • There is a reboot button accessible externally in the event that the lock is not operating correctly (haven't had to use it yet), but it doesn't change pin codes or anything else - there is a setup button internally (accessible when you remove battery cover and for initial configuration) - this acts as a reset if you hold it down and gets it back to factory default

    • +1

Haha are you trying to find out if it has the same feature as its wireless security camera system that a long press sync button on the cameras can wipeout all recorded footage?

      • Good to know there are people who gets the joke XD

  • +1

My understanding is Wifi version you can give remote code access anywhere and access/set up profiles. Plus open the door remotely anywhere to gain access for ppl.
Also don't forget to ask OW for 5% price beat. Good deal.

  • +1

Stupid question. But are these generally easy to install yourself? Presumably removing the entire old traditional lock and handle etc.

    • Pretty easy to install - similar to any deadlock - you can leave the existing lock/handle if there is enough space to add this (the internal unit is quite chunky)

    • not easy if you have to redrill holes and amortise the strike plate etc. If no drilling required then it's easy just follow the steps.

  • +1

Bought it just now with delivery tomorrow. I have the base model (not touch or wifi), installed it myself and very happy with it. A great price.

  • Those who got this, how hard is it to DIY and replace say you existing traditional wooden door handle/key?

  • I live in an apartment and body corp won’t allow these as all the door handle need to be uniform

Is there something like this that works from the inside ?
I always can’t remember if I locked the door so being able to do so from an app would be handy

    • I added it underneath my existing door handle. As long as your door handle doesn't lock automatically, it'll work.

And finger prints is much easier than the app. It also locks itself behind you or you can set a timer or manually lock. But you'd need the wifi version to check

    • I live in an apartment and body corp won’t allow these as all the door handle need to be uniform

Could you install this lock as an addition to the door handle? Like have the lock above the handle where you normally find a deadbolt/deadlatch.
Then leave the handle part unlocked and just use the Eufy lock

      • Yeah long as you can have the existing lock/handle in an unlocked position. Then just add this above it. When I go on holiday I have this plus the old lock both locked for added security.

      • +2

If your apartment door is fire rated then these deadbolts do not comply. A fire rated door will have a certification tag installed near the hinge and should also have a door closer fitted.

        • Just had a look - it’s a fire door
Am I able to use anything like this or does the door have to stay un touched ?

      • Don't think so. A building manager was explaining to me that changing the locks/ handles in high rise is a fire hazard. Something about being able to open your doors in an emergency and that the building manager or fire department has a master key that opens all the front doors of the units in an apartment.

        • Which to me is a security hazard! No telling who else has access to this master key.

          • @landril: I think the logic is if your apartment has a fire and you are on vacation, they would need to go in and put it out instead of letting the whole building burn down. The other option i guess is to take an axe to it. BTW, you may not actually don't own the front fire door in strata properties. May be OC responsibility so you may not be able to modify it.

    Back to $279?

  • Shows 279 for me

    • That looks to be a different model altogether. No fingerprint reader on that

    • Different model. Same as this on Amazon

  • Maybe a dumb question, but I have a sliding door instead of a traditional front door. Would this work? And would I be asking for too much if I said are there any thread / matter door locks people would recommend?

  • Missed it :(

  • Is this still a deadbolt for insurance purposes (many ask if your doors have deadbolts, and will either not insure you or charge you more if you dont).

    • +1

      Yes.

  • Been waiting for this or the wifi version to go on sale lol. Pity I missed the Amazon deal but managed to order one through office works.

    • How did you manage to order from officeworks. Saying not available on linage for me and have checked most stores.

      • +1

I saw one store had stock last night so ordered one, confirmation to pick up came through this morning. Yea most OW were out of stock. Guess was just lucky.

  • +1

Is it me or is that 3rd picture the epitome of photoshop ignorance?

Door handle doesn't twist anything, the deadbolt is not aligned with the keyhole (behind the circle of the Eufy lock).

    • Also, check out the shadow of the arm on the 5th picture - bet you didn't know the arm was disconnected from a human.

  • And, Officeworks just cancelled my order…

    • Just woke up and saw I got my 'ready to pick up' text. Yea most of the Officeworks when I looked last night had 'out of stock' but did find one so tried my luck.

      • is this Officeworks in Casula?

  • How do you lock this from the outside? Can you simply use the fingerprint to lock as well as unlock?

    • Yes you can.

  • Have the WiFi model but the Auto Lock is hit-and-miss
