Bailey 1.9m/4.3m Triple Extension Ladder FS13908 $270 (Was $365) @ Mitre10 / Bunnings

820

I missed this deal a few weeks ago from tools.com because they ran out of stock https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/724986

Now the price has been reduced to $270 at Mitre 10 and Bunnings. It works out to be pretty much the same price if you needed it to be shipped from tools.com

Bunnings don't advertise this is a sale on their website, but if you visit in store you'll see the original price tag @ $365 hidden behind the sale price tag

Damn brought this at full price not long ago. Great ladder in many ways. Compact enough to get in a small car, long enough for roof access, really sturdy and wide

    • Do you get upto a double storey structure with this? What are the safety measures

      • +6

Best safety measure for that high if you're not regular with ladders is to get someone else more experienced to do the job. Yeah, it may cost money, but the outcome of trying to save a buck can be a lot more costly if anything goes wrong.

I just bought myself a ladder to check out my own roof, and just being on the first storey is scary as shit. I didn't think I would feel like that at all until I was up there.

          Second storey, f that.

          • +3

@zarbicore: It's weird because I've noticed the older you get the scarier it is. It should be the other way around.

            • @WatchNerd: I remember the first time i had to climb up to second story to clean the gutters…

I bought all the safety equipment anchor points etc….

First time up there i was scared shitless. the more acute the angle in respect to the ground i found it easier to climb then going deadshit vertical

Once i got up there i admired the view and went to work.

Its not bad once you overcome that fear

      • No it won't reach double story

      • Depends on how high your house is, most double storey houses are about 6.5m in height so you won't get there. This ladder only extends to 4.3m and you are not allowed to actually climb to the upper rungs for safety reasons.

However, a lot of houses have a lower ground floor roof to climb onto first which makes this ladder the perfect light ladder to bring onto that roof to climb onto the second roof. I felt quite safe on it.

  • Is it heavy compared to other ladders?

    • description says 13.5kg. Probably heavier due to the extra components for it to slide and lock in. I thought the weight was fine to carry where needed and just made it feel more solid when in use

Can it reach roof of a double storey home?

My home blue prints show the height to the roof to be 5.1m (from ground to corner of gutter) and the ladder seems to suggest maximum reach height of 5.39m when fully extended.

Been looking for a safe, yet transportable ladder to get to the gutters on the roof to clean them. Won't risk getting on to the roof, too dangerous!

    • Likely be a tad on the short side, particularly if you have eave's. You'd be better off finding something that can at least reach your fascia/guttering.

Put three milk crates on on top of each other then put the ladder on that, then you'll be able to reach the eaves with the ladder.
You see it done all the time on YouTube, so it must be ok.

      No - don't do that!

The 5.39m is the height you can reach off the ground after extending it fully. It's basically saying you can stand a bit lower than the top rung and then reach up to 5.39m - but you need to rest the ladder against something in order to do that.

As REDRUM said, the ladder at its full extension (and safely on the ground, NOT on milk crates) would go under your eaves, so you wouldn't be able to reach around and clean your gutters from that position. You would need something at least about 5.5m to get a slight angle on the ladder (ie, not vertical) and also have it just pop over the gutters so it's not about to slip underneath the eaves.
Preferably a 5.8-6.0m ladder just to make sure.

buy 2, treat them as your stilts

        • not yet, may be a decade later

      • Far out mate you had me for the first half - not gonna lie haha

      • Thanks, mate! Gonna check out at Bunnings and ask them as well

        • Here you go - this is what you are after.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727986

Only downside is that it is still quite long at its "shortest" position, so wouldn't be able to fit it inside a car etc. But if that's not a concern, this is exactly what you would want to reach your second level gutters.

    • "Been looking for a safe, yet transportable ladder to get to the gutters on the roof to clean them"

Sounds like an advert for the renovator ladder

      • sighh, wish I was in Marketing or something

I joined 2 of these together and reached a window 6m off the ground and got in ok.

      • So I can buy two and join together?

  • Can this become double sided A frame as well?

    • +1

Doesn't appear so - looks like it is a sliding mechanism only.

    • +1

Definitely not, it's a slide up/slide down ladder. You need a multi-purpose ladder for that, they are about double the price.

Made in China. I think all ladders from Bunnings are now.

    • Baileys ladders went overseas in the 90s. I still have timber and their first alumiumum ladders that were made in Sydney.

Can this reach the roof of a single storey? Been looking for something to clear away tree leaves that keep falling on the roof

    • Easily, the ladder itself extends to 4.3m which should be 1-1.5m higher than a standard single storey roof.

      • Thanks mate, but just conscious that the ladder’s length is the hypotenuse of the triangle and 4.3m is the vertical height …

        • Even if you put in a 45 degree angle the vertical reach is still above 3m. My gutter is only 2.7m off the ground. Have you ever seen anyone standing on a 45 degree setup ladder?

  • Can this fit into a Camry ?

  • Extension Ladder Open Length (m): 4.39
    • Reach Height Extension Ladder (m): 5.39

    So 4.4 or 5.4m?

    • +1

reach 1. an act of reaching out with one's arm.

standing few rungs down from top, average height + average reach

edit: oops, realised pegasusx already explained

  • +2

For any one wondering about the size - nominal - reach - Max extension etc. Its a bit confusing.
Here is a photo of the label demonstrating the heights
