There has been a further price drop on the Kogan deep dish pie maker, it's now down $9.99.

There is also the 6 mini pie maker at $5.99.

Kogan shipping can be expensive, but Kogan keeps offering free 14-day FIRST trials even though I've used their free trial offer several times this year when I just want to buy something from them. Just make sure you cancel before the trial ends, or else you'll be charged an annual subscription.

I bought the deep pie maker when it was $12.99, but got a dud - the top on the front pies kept burning and the back ones were not browned. After a chat with Kogan, they actually sent me a new one and did not require me to return the first faulty one. The second unit heats evenly.

  • What kind of preparation and pastry is required for one to make a decent pie?

    As intrigued as I am by this deal, I worry that any amount of required culinary expertise could render it yet another inexpensive OzBargain paperweight…

      The instructions say to use store-bought shortcrust for the bottom, and store-bought puff pastry for the top (which is what I've been doing and it's not bad)

          just use puff pastry for the bottom and top I never had any success with shortcrust on the bottom

      • Wait really

        • Yep. Perfect to make leftover pie with. Spag bol, curry, etc

          • @M00Cow: For the bottom portion of the pie or top portion? So intrigued!

            • @MBix: Just get a sheet of frozen roti,
              let it defrost
              Pop it in the pie maker & gently push it into the base & sides.
              Fill the centre with filling (mm butter chicken)
              Fold the edges over the top
              Cook for ~8mins

              Tada! Delicious pies

      I haven't tried this machine specifically, but they're a piece of piss with just off the shelf puff pastry and whatever filling you want.

    I love mine. Puff pastry, and combine with KFC zinger fillet and potato/gravy
