One of the current October deals on Cellar One. Seems to get good review on Vivino 4.1* (https://www.vivino.com/AU/en/chateau-reynella-basket-pressed…)

RRP is $75 but seems be usually around $60/bottle at most places, so $25/bottle is great. It's also $25 through Vivino, as it looks like Accolade Wines makes them available through Vivino.

Worth signing up, make sure to click the link at the top to get credit and give credit, there's a introduction offer that's also great value.

About the wine:

This Classic McLaren Vale Shiraz boasts a boquet of chocolate and blueberry fruits, complemented by cedary oak with nuances of black olive, forest floor and polished leather

A powerful palate, with layers of blue & plum fruit flesh with generous oak sweetness and a powerful tannin structure to complement the dense fruit profile. Luxurious palate depth and generosity, representative of old vine McLaren Vale Shiraz and an outstanding vintage

In the wine world, 92 points is like a C-

    • -3

Actually 85-90 points is considered very good wine.

Pepperjack which is really popular is 91 points.

All I can say about this comment is, lol, lol, lol.

You must know less about wine than Vladimir Putin knows about democracy.

      • Hi @Adelv - whilst it might be considered good wine, you won't find good producer promoting score less than 90. I don't get out of bed for Silver or bronze. RD :-)

        • Yeah, I understand this.

Most won't even publish bad scores, however there is decent wine that's in the high 80s.

There's also bad wine that's rated in the 90s.

You'll see plenty of critics scoring all over the place, 88pts, 95pts on the same very wine.

That's why you can't take the scoring too seriously.

          Just my opinion :)

@[Deactivated]: It’s a massive topic. Not one that we can do justice to here but another great part of the wine debate.:-)

Not all reviews are made equal. Like the critics that taste blind or the ones that taste knowing what the label is. Unconscious or conscious bias?

            Rd :-)

      • Largely depends by whom. Robert Parker 85-90 would mean a fantastic wine. Sam Kim 85-90 would mean undrinkable. Andrew Caillard MW is pretty frugal with his scoring and 92 points by him would imply a pretty good wine.

That said PERSONALLY I didn't like 2017 vintage. It was a cooler year and to me it lacked the richness and body I look for in McLaren shiraz. Some liked it as it was on a more delicate and exhibited more finesse. I would pay $5 more and grab Reynella 2016 CabSav they have on sale but that is just me.

        • Na a Sam Kim below 90 is one he hasn't been paid for…..

'Structure dominates the fruit' - not words I like to see.

Both are important - but if the fruit is too secondary, I doubt that I'll be wanting to play along…

    • I sort've agree with you! Almost everything can buy a 90+ these days.

      • +2

@drprox in many respects you're right. Because wine is so subjective the opinion of wine writers can vary in their scores across a single wine. IMHO the secret is to find a wine writer who aligns with your tastes and follow their scores. What they like, you'll often like and vice versa. RD :-)

    • What reds do you recommend around this price point?

  • Had this wine (same vintage) as part of an introductory mixed 6 pack for $100 from cellar one. Not sure if they still do this but works out slightly cheaper per bottle. It's not value at RRP but pretty good at the discounted price point

    • +2

Yeah, the intro packs are good value and contain 6 different wines. I think it's $99 for a 6PK for new members.

  • Hi, i couldn't find the intro packs for new members. Do they only offer these randomly throughout the year?
    Thanks

    • I'm not sure if they're available, or the link. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

It may be under mixed packs.

    • You should get an email with the link a little while after signing up…

Tried this in the intro pack. Lovely wine

Great wine at a great price. Definitely a bit of a lesser vintage of this wine due to the cool 2017 vintage, but is still a bargain for $25. Previous vintages of this wine have received mid to high 90's from reviewers. This is a wine that can easily cellar for 10-20 years if you like your wines with a bit more age on them.

These are the links to the welcome packs, they show up as $199 for existing members, but $99 for new members (Reynella Basket Press Shiraz is not part of them anymore though):

        • json_string error after you've put in all your details?
Try using the random letter at the end of the link I put, that's what in my account when I select 'Invite Friend'

          • @albot: Yes, after inputting my details. Seems to be an error with the "form" or system that Cellar One uses for the sign up.

Also tried the code at the end of your link, however the site is saying the referral has expired.

            • @abalone123: DM me.
