I believe this is the regular price, plus there is also a $59 joining fee. There have been $199 + $49 fee specials in the past.

    • +2

For the $59 you probably get some gym branded shit for 'free' ??

    • +8

Regular price? Rubbish. These prices and timelines are off memory and reasonably vague but It was $249 18 months ago, what’s still the same price as 18 months ago? $299 12 months ago, $749 for most of the year, came down to $499 a few months ago and is now back down to $299

  • +6

    $59 admin fee applies

  • I wonder why NSW is skipped directly to Qld

    • +5

I would imagine rent.. and maybe bikies

      • +1

        Id 2nd bikies

  • crazy.. fitness first is almost $60/month

    • +1

      f45 is $66 per week

      • +22

66 a week to train in front of a tv is what i can see when i walk past their gym

        • haa

        • +1

Really? So there's no "real life" instructor taking the class? (Just curious cause I've never been)

          • +5

@montorola: As an F45 member, there is definitely at least two trainers at each session in my studio.

            • @neshy12: F45 ?

            • +1

@neshy12: Hardly call them trainers.. Just people who walk around yelling/repeating what the exercises on the screen say..

      • +5

        It must include cuddle therapy

      • It is for those who need a third party to push their limits. You will definitely be sweating after 45 minutes. I went there for 6 weeks and I did not enjoy it. It was too tough for my joints.

You will have to book sessions a week in advance. And if you miss a session, you will be paying $10. I never got any weekend sessions as they are always booked instantly. So, I cancelled it and went to plus fitness.

        • If you went from no exercise to this kind of style it would hurt your joints. You need to build up to it. Exercise will in time (generally speaking) make your joints feel better.

      • What, really? Aren't they are cardio gym, so they lack the equipment and facilities that normal gym has?

    • +5

LOL you mean almost $60 per fortnight? unless you joined 14yrs ago, in which case it may be $60-$70 per month…?!

      • They gave everyone 30% off during covid and haven't increased since

      • 32 a fortnight

        • deal is almost 14p/fn factoring in the adminfee

    • +1

      $60 a fortnight. Shit gyms are $60 a month

    • Snap is almost $100 a month.

    • That's well worth it with all that group classes and all. I used to enjoy their Kickboxing classes. Last week I started at plus fitness and I pay about $64 a month. Just a normal gym, no classes and all. If there is fitness first close by, I'll join it in a heartbeat.

      • +1

true, but if you only want to do kickboxing, I would recommend a proper Martial Arts club that can do sparring and amateur/ pro fights like I did

  • +8

They constantly tell people they'll never drop the price, so many complaints on their Facebook.

I paid $450, following week dropped to this price 🤣

They basically dropped it every month from $700, and that's fine. But telling people it won't drop further isn't a great way to keep customers.

I'll probably head back to GoodLife or Ryderwear next year.

Goodlife has had 20% off too for a while.

  • +9

Derrimut? Must have priors and a Probation Officer's approval just to enter this gym.

  • +19

Mmmm…. I love the smell of money laundering in the morning.

  • +2

Keep in mind With that price that you can't suspend, even for any plausible reason.

  • -1

The problem is that their gym is small. Like Frankston Victoria.
    Then it's super crowded

  • Revo is expanding everywhere. Watchout

  • +22

I paid for one of these just before a lockdown my local derrimut sent out an email saying there would be no pause or credit to anyone including people on a monthly direct debit, I would never go back again.

    • +5

I would have contacted the ACCC about that. https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/buying-products-and-servic…

      • I probably should have there was even a local newspaper article about it. I contacted them and they denied doing it despite me and my friends having evidence in writing.

    • I got my membership during the short period that there wasn't lockdowns and they extended my membership for 4 months (Due to second wave lockdown). I think it would have been an after thought.

  • -2

    Do you even lift bro

  • -3

No thanks, I don't eat dairy moot.

  • +2

Valid to new, current, and expired members only. Who's left?

    • Thankyou. Odd. In the past though they didn't allow for current members. But yes, who or what is left? Possible future unborn members?

  • +1

I walked to Bank and told that I have a complain of unauthorized Direct Debits, the guy smiled and said , IS IT A GYM ?

To be clear, it wasn't derrimut or fitness first.

  • +10

59 admin fee. What a load of horse doo-doo.

  • +3

    So, er, where's the bargain?

  • +4

Not a bargain imo, this place is a mess. Worst gym I've ever been too.

Weights all over the place from clowns leaving them everywhere after a workout, broken machines, r&b music playing loud.

Only went once, but those reasons were enough for me to realize the joint is a dump.

$150 a year would be would be max I would pay.

    • +6

Best value gym I ever been to. But I'm a simple guy and just need a power rack and weights. Those into fancy equipment better off at virgin gym or something.

Also I like edm/hip hop blaring. Worst case I'm sure true ozbargainers have numerous pairs of noise cancelling headphones.

      YMMV

      • +2

I've been a member of both Derrimut and Virgin and I'd go back to Derrimut anyday if I could (sadly, I've moved to the CBD). Price alone we are looking at $5ish a week vs/ $25-50. The equipment at Collins is lacklustre for those who wish to lift heavy, and there are a few machines which collect dust. The Derrimut Braybrook had a proper stair master, amazing rubber plates, variety of machines for the same muscle group so you can feel out each and everyone.

Also agreed that the music at Derrimut is good (at times) and gets you pumped. Listening to pop at Virgin can be a buzz kill. The downfall of Derrimut is that they're far out in the suburbs, and the powerlifting bois and girls act like they own the place; esp. when they take up a power rack and choose to just warm up or sit in it for 30 minutes.

        • +3

Goodlife is the same with their pop music. Listening to Adele at the gym makes me want to sleep not lift.

          • +1

@Circly: BAD! oh mate everyone always asks why i drive 15 minutes to Derrimut CS instead of around the corner to the goodlife…
i did, except the days i forgot my headphones. i was trying to workout to "rolling in the deep" like… how? At least R&B is a bit more uplifting.

Theres also the part where Derrimut costs me ~$5 p/w and has 10x the amount of equipment (im not kidding) while the Goodlife was ~16 p/w?

            still prefer my techno though.

    • As someone who goes to Derrimut, I can confirm all your points except for the value. It's 1/4 the price of any other local gym, but half a dozen broken machines, the plates are rarely put back and when they are there is no semblance of order to it (20kg plate on top of a 2.5kg plate).

  • +3

I joined the new branch in Seaford Meadows, South Australia. For someone who has chronic injuries from lifting heavy when younger the gym is excellent, hands down the best in my area for a 30km radius. So many gyms just have the stock standard squat racks, lat pulls downs etc. Having equipment like a hack squat machine, lat pull downs/rows with cables etc just helps so much with lower back, forearms tendonitis, and lots of other niggling injuries you pick up over time.

Yea there is a lot of vanity there, but if you need a 24/7 gym with decent equipment it's a winner in my opinion.

    • They are good, but it's so crowded it's nearly impossible to get a park sometimes even during the day! I go to other ones in SA, cant imagine in the evening! LOL

      • Melrose Park is shocking during peak hours (before 8am and after 4pm)

  • +1

Some of their gyms are well maintained with a plethora of equipment, but unfortunately they’re is ones like Airport West that are a disgrace.
Half the machinery should be in the tip.
Suppose you get what you pay for.

    • I've been to the airport west gym once, it was next level compared to derrimut Caroline springs. If you think airport west is a disgrace I would love to get your opinion on derrimut/Caroline springs location.

      • how long ago did you go to CS? That's been renovated now. same Braybrook (and maybe derrimut, haven't actually been there)…

        • Would of been a year before lockdown. I couldn't care less about the interior, machines and weights are my main issue. If I went more than once I'm sure there's much more I could of faulted.

          • @Bretttick: yes and a lot of that has been upgraded as well.

you get the odd broken equipment here and there but that is any gym. weights are more or less kept in the freeweight area, but can be a little jumbled up

            • @TexasVujicic: A 'little' jumbled up is an understatement. Trying to find the second 5kg plate, or the 12.5kg dumbbells that they take to a separate area and never return is always fun.

            • @TexasVujicic: Weights weren't jumbled up when I went there. They were all over the place like I was on an egg hunt. If they were on the racks I'd still be training till this day

  • The two places I've been two were so cold in winter that I got a cold almost every time going there. There HVAC was almost non-existent.

Would prefer a local gym with better HVAC, even though smaller but less people going so you don't bump into people so often.

    • +1

I hate cold gyms! I can't get into it if halfway through the work out my hands and muscles are still stiff and frozen.

  • +1

So cheap $358 for a year

Don't think any other gym is this cheap

Available top up for existing members as well.

    Get on it people!!

    • +2

      Are you affiliated?

      • Are all the gyms near where you live under $10 pw?

      • No, but I've been to many gyms. It's all the same. Aslong as they have the equipment you can train. I find Derrimut good because it's spacious don't need to wait for equipmemt because they have 10x duplicate of the same machine.

  • +1

Hmmmm, to cop this or try and HODL until it drops to $199 again. Bit of a conundrum

    • That's what I use to think and do. But just say your $199 takes 2 months to go on sale. In those 2months you could of started training and becoming fit in those 60days. Is that worth the $100 for your body to become heathly.
      .

      • thanks for this mindset, makes me less salty i gave in and bought it when it was $450 lol

  • Is this online only? Or we can buy membership at the gym? Don’t want to give my card details to them.

    • +2

      Revolut

    • You can buy it at the gym via eftpos

    • The process they payment via stripe (like every other online store)…. they accept paypal too, nothing to worry about imo

  • +5

My issue with gyms these days is why they need to blast music like it is a night club when most people working out have headphones

    • have headphones

Duh that's why they gotta blast it, otherwise how else would you hear it with your headphones muffling /s.

  • +1

Does anyone know if these yearly subscriptions auto renew? I signed up last year and don't know if I need to cancel or if it auto-cancels after the year.

    • +2

      It doesnt auto renew

  • Worse thing about demerrit is all the kids that go there and think they are their favourite tik tokers … constantly posing in front of any mirror… Christ.. can the kids please just stop it. Please just lift and stop posing.

  • The music at Derrimut in Derrimut is so loud that you can barely hear your music through noise canceling headphones.

Besides that, been a member for 5-6 years now.

  • it seems like there is only one in Macgregor, Brisbane.
    No, thanks. it's too far.

  • I'd love to join up but their locations suck. Currently paying about $900 a year at Anytime Fitness.

    • As a gym…. their equipment is so much better. Much more of everything. Of course u have to live near one to be worthwhile

  • Never read so much emotional projection and whining for a deal about why their closest gym is crap or why they cant train there. I have a few gripes about the shower's cleanliness sometimes but holy sh!t so many feeble excuses about music and gymbros for what is a legitimate deal (I paid $450 months ago), shut up and train!

  • You get what you pay for. Will drop to 199$ for new years almost guaranteed
