Edit 2: Apparently the coupon allocation has been increased and the deal is back on.

Edit: now that coupon has expired the price is US$89.04 (~A$138.91) which is still a great price for a car like this.

Good looking RC car deal. This car is based on the popular HBX 16889a Pro monster truck (also the Flyhal FC600 truggy) with the same components and internals, but in a buggy setup. Expect it to be a super tough basher and super reliable. Note that this isn't the fastest out there (and apparently doesn't go the claimed 65km/h), but will still be plenty quick and this is a great price for a brushless car of this quality. These cars are much more robust than the popular WLToys 144001 etc, so a good option for kids etc. But it'll be stacks of fun for adults too. I love my Flyhal FC600. Would be a great xmas gift idea.

Note that a different motor to increase top speed is a cheap upgrade, if required.

There are also 2 and 3 battery options in the link.

Nice deal… we need some more RC stuff on OzBargain.

  • Any recommendation for a decent cheap controller to go with this?
Don't know anything about modern RC cars but the 9yr old wants one for Xmas.

    • +9

It comes ready to run. You don't need to get anything else.

      • Correct

  • +3

If this is based on the HBX 16889a truck, it will be amazing. That truck is a beast. Solid suspension setup, great brushless motor – perfect entry into the RC world.

  • Can these been speed limited for younger kids?

    • +1

Yes. I hardly ever run my fc600 at full throttle trim. It's way too out of control at top power.

  • How long does battery last roughly?

  • +3

Brings back memories of Tamiya and Kyosho RC cars, and of course KO PROPO controller and servos.

    • I miss the building the most. A couple of buddies even wanted to buy kits but didn't feel like building them and said, they'd be happy to have me build them. Shame it never happened.

Everything is RTR now isn't it?

      • +1

I believe a number of the Tamiya kits were re-released recently. But there plenty of RCs that come without electronics and require fit out before use.

        • Ooooh, I'll have to look into this. RCs were a pretty pricey hobby when I was a youth. I don't know why, but I get the impression that it's quite a bit more affordable to get into it now.

  • +4

Great car. My 4 yo son loves it and has already managed to break it several times. Luckily overnight parts from AliExpress!

    • I find that surprising. What parts has he broken? Is it definitely the same car?

      • I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you're confusing this car with the wltoys 144001. Very similar looking car, but more fragile.

        • Sorry I should have said we have the Flyhal FC600, not this new one which I do like the look of actually.

I find the front axle drive shafts keep popping out, and the little pin that's held in by the spring also has a habit of working its way loose.

Also managed to break the bit of the front suspension that the axle sits in, so have replaced that with a metal one now.

  • It seems not bad, will ask my son to take a look.

  • ~35kmh looking at the reviews. That's pretty pedestrian compared to the brushed wltoys at ~55kmh

    • +6

35km/h is plenty fast for most applications and the brushed WLtoys electronics won't last anywhere near as long as these. Plus, you can drop in a bigger motor for 20-30 bucks if you really want to partake in some high speed crashes.

For the record, My son and I both had WLToys 144001s. The brushed motor/ESC setup failed on both after a few months. We retired mine to a parts car for his, converted his to a brushless setup, and got a FC600 for me. The WLToys cars, while a lot of fun, and handle really well, are a lot more fragile than the HBX cars.

    • +1

It's fun until parts start breaking under stress

      • Sure, the faster you go the more likely you are to break things. Not going to buy a car that goes 10kmh just because its safer though.

Broke several bits on the 3 959b/979b wltoys we have but they go around twice the speed and are a blast to drive and cheap to fix.

I haven't had anything fail on the 124018. Bent a $5 part that didn't make it undrivable. I have a car that goes the same speed as this EC30B and while its fine off-road, on road its just too slow IMO.

Either way i thought its important to note what the actual speed is on these. Not saying it isn't a good deal, i upvoted it.

        • All good mate. I welcome the comments.

  • +3

Here's Captain Drone's review comparison between the WLToys 144010 and Eachine EC30B.

Btw I am still tossing up between these two. I want the faster one, but then again the idea that one is possibly more durable than the other also appeals to me lol. Decisions.. decisions..

    • +1

If you're chasing speed and plan to drive mainly on paved surfaces a 144001 is a good choice, just be prepared to outlay ~$120 for a brushless upgrade at some stage. A brushless 144010 would be even better. If you're planning on doing plenty of dirt and off road driving, this would be better.

      • thanks @wombat81
also, how many minutes is 1 battery run time approx ?

        • +1

It'll be around 15 min depending on what you're doing.

          • @wombat81: @wombat81 thanks mate. I have bit the bullet on this one.
Just wondering if an aftermarket RC battery charger is a good idea ?

            • +1

@metalhead: Definitely is mate. I use a ISDT Q6 Nano personally. Just note that if you get one of those you'll need a 240v to 12v transformer for it, and you'll need an adapter to charge these batteries.

  • I wonder what is in the Diffs? grease or silicone, and if there is anything in the shocks…
And how fast is the steering servo.

No specs on anything, is this just a toy, the reviews say its well built.

    • +2

Diffs will be greased. Oil shocks. Servo is excellent. Read Quadify's review.

This is an entry level, hobby grade car.

      • +1

Wanna get my 8yr old into the hobby, this would be a good intro to it?
What monster truck would you recommend?

        • +2

          Hbx 16889a Pro

  • +1

    Got one thank you.

I spent MONTHS researching and deciding to buy the 14001 and as awesome as it is it just keeps breaking.

Bought this immediately based on nothing but your recommendation lol.

Anyone got a link for a front bumper?

    • Wow. Pressure. Hope you like it.

    • +1

with this hobby a 3d printer is your friend….. saved my sons 144001 multiple times by 3d printing a part… back up and running in a hour or so..

      • Yeah that is true. There are also often wing and bumper designs etc on Thingiverse to print.

        • Which 4D printer model is suitable for positivity these parts? Thanks

          • @ash7503: I'm not sure we have 4D printing technology just yet, but any 3D printer should be fine. If you want to print bigger items like body shells, you'll want one with a big enough bed to allow that. The cheaper printers tend to have small beds. I use a FlashForge Inventor 2 and it's fine.

  • $153.61 with 3 batteries. I hope the kid doesn't smash it.

    • +4

Sadly you can't have that attitude. Things will inevitably break, but it shouldn't be a regular issue with a car like this unless he drives it like a complete lunatic. It should be able to take a fair beating.

      • +1

He's 12 and enjoys going to the RC park. We usually go home needing parts.

        • Perhaps try to convince him to wind the throttle trim back a bit for a while…

  • My kid has started getting into el-cheap RC cars, so this feels like a quality upgrade!

  • Thanks OP. My payment is $152.66 with 3 batteries. I hope I'll like it… hehehe

  • Coupon seems to be expired

  • I am a first time rc car buyer can i attach my go pro to it ?

    • If you want but the video will be very bumpy depending on how good the image stabilisation is.

  • "coupon can only be used 50 times"

  • thanks OP, bought for $149.76 here with 3 batteries, i instinctively uncheck banggood’s “insurance”.

  • That seems cheap for (What people are claiming) is a pretty decent 'proper" RC car, instead of some cheap plastic Metro one (anyone old enough?)

    • Jet Hopper. Wasn’t cheap though. Around $100 in 1987 dollars. Probably more durable than this, at a tenth of the speed.

      • Exactly I had the crap one, that chewed through 4x AAs - my mate had the silver one, which chewed through 8xAAs

  • Should be marked as expired coupon says can only be used max 50 times.

    • Thanks. I've updated it.

  • If I bought another same car in the future. Would I have have a control issue when running both at same time?

    • Nope, they don't work like that anymore. Just turn on one car and controller at a time, it will just work.

    • No. No problem.

  • I bought an eachine drone a few years ago from Banggood, the batteries just bloated within 3-4 months and Banggood did not warrant them. I will stay away from them…

    • +1

Lipos are consumable and if you don't get into a good habit of storage charging them when not in use, they don't last long. Plus the included charger is pretty crappy and doesn't come with a storage function.

    • My understanding is that eachine is just a brand banggood uses to rebadge stuff they buy from other factories, they don't design the products themselves. So it's a case by case thing

      • This is correct

  • +1

Legend, even without the coupon this is a decent deal, bought

I've been saving for a nitro rtr car, but couldn't pass this up, looking forward to tearing up the backyard with it at Christmas

  • You've got me going down a rabbit hole of rc cars. Any deals on the HBX 16889a Pro monster truck or Flyhal FC600 truggy that you mentioned?

    • I haven't seen any recently, sadly.

  • My mrs bought me this for fathers day and having a ball with it ! https://www.jaycar.com.au/1-12-scale-remote-control-high-spe… was on sale for $99. Can anyone comment on how the two compare ? Probably had around 25 hours of run time and the diff went :( took it back to jaycar and they replaced it.

Worth the upgrade for the brushless motor ans the 4wd ?

    • I haven't used the jaycar car, so can't really comment but I'd guess the internals a pretty low quality. Plastic gears? I'd say you'll find the performance of a car like this one will be considerably better. Plus all replacement parts are available. Lots of upgrades etc.

  • +1

Apparently more coupon allocation has been added and this deal is back on. Please let me know if that isn't the case.

    • +1

      Got one thanks

    • I already have too many gadgets in the house, wife will kill me.

    • +1

Yeah that worked. Thanks for updating as I missed out last time.

    • +1

got one too, thanks. i think my little dachshund is gonna love chasing this

  • Thanks for posting… a 2-battery setup ended up at ~$121 because of some 'second purchase allowance' I could activate. Can't wait! I have this charger: https://www.toysrus.com.au/skyrc-imax-b6ac-v2-balance-charge…, will that work and do I need some kind of adapter to charge these batteries? Thanks!

    • Yeah lots of people use those chargers. The lipos that come with this car have a Deans connector (aka t-plug).

  • Ordered on 9/10. Turned up today 19/10.
Entire box is labelled Twister XB though.
Nothing anywhere labelled Eachine E30B, though toy looks identical to Eachine E30B.

    • Interesting. As long as the electronics look like the images I wouldn't be too worried. Eachine cars are all rebrands.

      • So these are not real Eachine brand ? Even though its advertise as Eachine?

        • Eachine doesn't manufacture RC cars. They just rebrand other models.

  • Just wondering if I bought 2 of these would there be any issues of the transmitters / receivers having interference issues between the two cars, or can you put them on a different frequency to each other?

    • +1

Has already been asked above. It's not a problem. Turn on 1 car and transmitter first, wait for them to pair (almost instant). Then turn on the second.

      • Thanks, sorry didn't see that post above.

  • +1

Thanks, OP,, nice one,, and came to 130.15 incle postage of AU$4.84 insurance 2.46

  • Ok this turned up last week. Is pretty good and the boy has had fun using it. Seems decent quality.
We have a bigger property and the ground clearance on this thing is pretty low to be running over grass etc. Is there something anyone would recommend that is similar but with more ground clearance, like an off road type of one?

    • HBX 16889a Pro and the Flyhal fc600 both have better clearance.

    • But if you want to do lots of grass driving, a larger scale car like a HBX 901a would (1/10 scale) would be a good choice.

      • Thanks mate this is more suitable for the rough ground will look into it.

        • Agree with wombat - go for the 901a (it's 1:12 not 1:10). You can also put 1/12" scale tyres (eg. the hbx 901a tyre set) on a 16689a pro / fc600 and improve the grass handling ability without too much bother as the cars don't have fairly low gearing so the cars are apparently ok with the larger wheels.

    • +1

Consider changing the wheels to larger size as per this review
      https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/144001-124019-124018-…
You can get them from Banggood for about $30 delivered

Awesome car indeed! Thanks for the deal wombat. I always look at R/C threads and think, how the hell did you manage destroy your car so quickly…. Well here I am!!! I hit the footpath at around half speed and at an angle and broke the front right suspension:( a replacement shock on Banggood is $25 plus postage. That's expensive considering the price of the car! Do you know of any replacement shocks that will fit and cost less?

    https://au-m.banggood.com/2PCS-Upgraded-Aluminum-Capped-Oil-…

    Reckon that'll fit? Cheers

    • It probably will but I can't be 100% sure

      • Cheers:)
