Not a bad price at all.
Since it’s a link to the koda, it’s worth dropping the link for the others in the description for reference

I gas this is an ok deal…..

  • +2

Ooni Karu 12, wood fire pizza is my pick. I have it and I love it.

  • +1

Price and functionality i would still go for the Bbq galore version which can be had for $349 and lower with discount giftcards. No complaints my end with 4 months use.

    • Thanks was considering this.
Is it weird or unstable that it only has three legs?
At first glance the single middle leg at the back looks possibly unstable..

      • +1

It's a bit sketchy as you try to light the burner (you basically push opposite the back leg), otherwise it's stable.

        • Thanks, can live with for price

      • Design flaw. Push back and leg can fold up. Happened to me on Sunday. 400 degree oven fell off back of table, grabbed with oven mit luckily and able to pull back up. Cheese everywhere and all in oven. Need new stone, not easy to get the exact size. If time again I’d just buy from the local pizza place. Add time and cost of ingredients if doing it right, plus trial and error to make dough and technique to not destroy pizza at cook point, not worth the hassles - my 2c. Legs should absolutely have a lock to prevent folding up.

    • Second this, paid around $315 with gift cards and am very happy with it - my (improving) technique is the only downside

I've seen a lot of reports that the heat protection of this unit sucks big time.

People have said its burnt the tables underneath the thing whilst its on. It gets super hot on the outside for many units.

I'd rather spend the extra on the Ooni for quality personally.

      • So the ooni doesn't get hot on the outside?

        • +2

I have the 12 gas version and it doesn't get hot underneath. I let the dough sit there while I cook and it's not warm.

      • +1

I wouldn’t recommend any pizza oven on a wood table!

    • I assume you're talking about this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/718993

I think there was only 1 review in regard to heat and discolouration of the table but seems positive otherwise.

  • +2

Is anyone else struggling to cart it?

    • Karu won't let you order due to some error or shipping restriction. Weight appears to be in lbs for that, and kg for others, maybe it's getting confused and restricting on that basis?

  • Has anyone tried the new Bunnings knock off?

  • +2

Not able to deliver to my addresses in Melb, Vic!

    • +2

This happened with the last deal, I was never able to order one. Tried on this deal, same issue.

      • +1

Looks like the issue is for the Koda 12 specifically, maybe the problem is related to weight being in pounds and not kg like the others?

        • +1

Karu can't be delivered either. Not much of a bargain, can't buy it.

  • How is this vs gozney rockbox? Not that I have the room or money for either

    • +2

I have the Roccbox. It's a lot more expensive than these however it's a very well built oven. I only use the gas option and it is so easy to use and get consistent results.
From what I have read the Roccbox is better insulated and holds the temperature for longer so you can pump out pizzas more often.
Although it is portable it is a lot heaver than the ooni.

Title is a little misleading, these aren’t sold by Amazon AU. They’re open box specials and sold by Amazon Warehouse (USA), condition could be questionable from my experience despite the ‘very good’ claim.

    • +1

They are sold by Amazon AU according to the Amazon
      page.

    • Australia has an Amazon Warehouse now, too. Launched just recently.

I bought a tent in 'fair' condition due to major discolouration. 80% off. Took me about 20m of looking to find the tiny problem it was talking about. So there are deals to be had, bit of a lottery perhaps.

I wanted the Karu but there were issues online. Ended up getting the Frya, anyone got any experience with it. I know it is limited to just wood pellets, do the pizzas still come out well?

    • +1

cooks to exactly the same temperature. Make sure to always put the door on in between rotations to get the best heat and airflow over the pizza.

      • +1

Can you recommend any wood pellets available in Australia?

        • +1

Unfortunately my experience is limited to a family friend’s one, I just ordered one too. I did read this recently, hopefully it’s helpful to you: https://www.pizzaforguys.com/best-wood-pellets/
I can’t comment on the quality but many of those pellet wood types are available from barbecues galore. I’ll defer to others to be safe though

  • Damn missed the koda

    • +1

Why would you want the koda if the karu is everything the koda is plus woodfire?
You will need an adapter for the propane but still better investment?

      • +3

The attachment is another $175… I personally wouldn't want to pay that. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09RZSPTF3

        • I get that. But buying a separate wood fire pizza even would be even more expensive. The woodfore pizzas generally taste better than gas but you still have the option of gas if that is more convenient. I guess if you know already that all you will be using is gas then fine but you can definitely get cheaper gas ovens than this brand.
Also karu is stainless steel which is another upgrade

          • +1

@maverickjohn: Pizza is generally cooked within 90 seconds so I don't think you can taste the difference between wood fired and gas. I have both and can't taste the difference.

            • @Master Haggler: Hmm i'm pretty sure you can still taste the difference, particularly on how the dough tastes.
              Each to their own.
As long as the person makes an educated and informed decision then that is ok.

            • @Master Haggler: Agree. I've got both and have done blind taste tests.

Personally I think the "flavour difference" comes more down to the pizza crust being burnt and having a charcoal flavour.

              • @tonydav: Agree. There are so many variables in making pizza. The average person wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

  • +1

Have owned the Koda 12 for 3 months. Great buy at this price. Bought on previous Amazon deal for $485. Have been smashing pizzas since. Dough stretching is tricky but once you get the hang of it pizzas are amazing! Won't be buying pizzas out again

  • I reeeeeeally don't need one. Right?

    • +2

      That's what I told myself. But I didn't listen.

  • Wish I had held out, I bought the Arosto from BBQ's Galore and it just can't get the pizza stone hot enough. Top cooks nicely, but the bottom of the base is always a little under.

    • Change your stone to a baking steel https://youtu.be/4ag_WjZ_O4A. It gets way hotter and also holds the heat better than the pizza stone. I have been using the baking steel on my home oven and the difference in the crust is night and day.

    • +1

I’ve heard people will pre-heat the oven on the highest heat and then turn down the gas to a low temperature just before putting the pizza in. Maybe give that a try.

  • +1

How do you fix the delivery issue? Looking at a Karu

    • Update - Looks like I can order a frya but not a karu

  • +1

I picked up the Fyra as I have been considering one of these for quite a while. Can anyone recommend wood pellets available in oz that they like ?

  • Koda 12 back in stock? Just purchased one

  • -2

How much pizza are you all eating??

  • Also having the same delivery issue with the Karu..was anyone able to buy?

    • +1

I couldn’t buy one either. I tried heaps of different addresses and chatted to Amazon but they couldn’t help either.

  • +1

Chatted with Amazon this was their response:
it happens when the item is not available to your nearest fulfillment center in this cases it does not shows the delivery date and the order does not gets placed as informed to you the item will be Available to ship in 1-2 days.you can try placing the order after the given time line or else you can try to place the order with the different address

    • Wish they would take it off the site or fix it then. Annoying as.

Koda and accessories are 10% off at David Jones at the moment but it’s still $593..
