I'm tempted but I feel $350 is just a little expensive for a knock off when the OG regularly goes for ~$500.

    • Yeah but reviews look good.

    • Going the other way, a cheap electric toaster oven and pizza stone does a very good job.

Yeah I've been making pan pizza's with two Lodge 10" cast iron skillets following the SeriousEats guide and they're pretty awesome, makes this even harder to justify.

        • +7

You're close to OzB perfection, as cast iron oven baking 'trays' are superb.

I'll let you in on a little inside trick I did myself. Source yourself an old school BBQ's flat cast iron plate. The older style gas ones would have a grill/slotted side and then another plate that was flat, you want the latter.

You can buy from Bunnings etc - might have an old one yourself or just drive around until you see one of the MANY old BBQs people are eternally tossing out on the kerb.

Even if the plate is rusty, horrible etc - it's cast iron so cleaning it up is super easy and will give you a AS GOOD AS NEW product.

Once clean measure the internals of your oven, sometimes they fit as it - other times you'll just need to trim down with an angle grinder (cast iron is soft so easy to do). Then take off rough edges and season as you would ANY cast iron.

I've stuck with a huge squarish one is about 45 x 50cm - heat up in your oven, welding or oven gloves to pull out or toss your pizza on top in the oven - your choice.

Baking steel trays sell for BIG $$$ and cast iron ones out perform them easily. We have used for years, gives brilliant bases.

Detroit style Pan Pizza does not require high heat pizza oven, you can cook it in normal oven. Lots of other pizza styles do require high heat which this oven provide…………….
To get crunchy crust leopard effect pizza you need direct heat / flame from above.
I have used this same oven to cook amazing homemade pizza, pitta bread, charcoal chicken, roasted vegies, fish, steak and the list goes on. So for just over $300 it is dam good investment.
          Thx for negging!!

does ok job for frozen pizza?

      • +1

This is my go to. Does a sensational job for ~$120. Gets ripping hot which is great for homemade dough.

        https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/MasterPro-Ultimate-Pizza…

        • That does look good, 400deg must be fast to cook!

        • Do you think it actually goes to 400C? I might just get one if it can get that hot

          • @Bubbleshark: don't know if it actually does 400C but I bought one of these a few years ago and does a neapolitan pizza beautifully within a few min

          • -1

@Bubbleshark: Probably does. It gets ripping hot and top and bottom elements work extremely well. You can pump out home made pizzas in minutes each (don't use bakers delight or Colesworth dough)

        • +1

yep - got something that looks a little fancy but cheaper and the same top and bottom elements - at its hottest setting cooks home base pizzas in 3-4 minutes

    • Ooni Koda 12 has gas control knob at rear, this one is on the side, so is much better positioned and safer while adjusting, specially if you have the oven against wall. Other than that I believe it is near identical to the Koda 12 (which retail to $650). I feel the Koda 16 is better and easier to cook as it is larger, so pizza is further away from flame so reduce chance of burning the pizza closer to the flame. Otherwise RB is another solid oven with thicker base, better insulation and better flame management but cost $799 with a peel.

    • Youtube review tell me it works okay 😄

    Thanx Op, got one…
I also missed out on the anaconda deal. left with $500 worth of ebay gift cards to spend after they cancelled the order

    • Anaconda has it available again on ebay, and after the August 5% off it's sitting at $626.05 + $9.95 shipping

      • Thanx cycloneaussie, however, not willing to pay the current price. Anaconda should honor their previous special price to the people that got their order cancelled on ebay

        • +1

Very true, left quite a few of us salty

  • +2

Grr, still waiting for the Ooni Koda 16 price drop. Any drop!

    • +1

Koda 16 is indeed a good buy, was on special a while back on ebay with further 10% ebay discount code, was like $1050 delivered but ended up getting this one from BBQ Galore couple of month ago. Now selling ~ $1230

      • Yeah this looks pretty sweet, and definitely a good price!

copy paste of a previous comment of mine:

The BBQs galore one worked fantastic with my Neapolitan style pizza.
Absolutely love this style of pizza oven, it's so convenient being gas fueled and so portable. It's relatively light and the legs fold up.
No messing around with wood/fire, especially if your pizza is going to be cooking in approximately 2 minutes.
You can always smoke some pizza ingredients if you want to add the smoke flavour.
The square stone is removable and measures 340mm wide, 305mm deep

  • anyone know if it can be converted to natural gas?

    • +1

I don't think there is a conversion kit, but a gas fitter might be able to change / adjust the jets to make it for NG and new hose.

10% off gift card deal expiring today https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/716657

Edit: i should say, more cashback in rewards points.

  • I have the GOZNEY ROCCBOX and it turns out to be great. Yes, it is expensive, but I take it anywhere, and it's going strong.

I find it good for 9" inch pizza base, but with more experience you can fit a 12" inch without burning the crust.

Insulation is great and there's a thermometer to know when it's time to cook, and when it's ready to rock and roll (30-40 min heating time usually) pizzas are ready in 2 minutes.

Downsides, it is heavy, the stone it's fixed and there's no replacement if you break the it, and to clean the inside is a bit hard sometimes, and I think that's it !!!

Did I say I love the little fella

    • Good review of the RB, was thinking to buy it. I was not aware that the stone is fixed (a bit of let down). I ended up buying this BBQ Galore oven and I use some metal as a door while preheating the oven. I have infrared thermometer to check stone temp and it can reach 450-500c in ~ 15-20min, then I launch the pizza and keep turning every 20/30 sec, it is ready in 2 min. But I believe the RB has better insulation, thicker stone, innovative flame burner (so it take longer to heat but retain more heat in), so would probably be quicker to launch the second pizza. It is a shame that the Dome gas is not available and it is way over priced @ $2.5k when becomes available.

  • I'm neither + or - on the deal but just an observation as I've viewed stuff like these lately - and this one seems from the limited pix to be made of a lot of powdercoated steel or similar? I can only guess - but if thats the case I do wonder how well it will last against corrosion etc

Like I said this is based off the pix alone - but if it was aluminium or quality materials they usually point this out as a feature so it's absence of a mention is generally telling.

  • Thanks OP. Been eyeing this off for a while.

  • Battlestar Galactica vibes from that one - futuristic looking!

  • found this great video which explains the new valve on the gas bottles for the LCC27 hose fitting

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG1HxrqeNI8&ab_channel=SWAP%…

    • do you know where to get the adaptor ? would bunnings trade my old 9kg bottle for a new one

      • +1

I had Swap & Go bottle with the old fitting, when it got empty I swapped it with bottle with new fitting from BP station for around $29. There is no adaptor.

        • Thanks, do you think bunnings would swap their old bottle to an new one?

          • +1

@BlackorRed: If you have Swap & Go you can try and swap it at Bunnings with the new fitting, probably accept.
Worst scenario, if you have old spare hose you can fit it to the Oven and keep using the old bottle.

      • Adapter?

Doesn't seem you need to do anything, its more just a FYI that the valves are changing and eventually you will end up with a different looking one that works with both new and old equipment.

  • Decided to setup the pizza oven. Did anyone have issues with the pizza stone? Just doesn't fit no matter what positions I tried. I may need to shave off around 2mm for it to sit in snuggly

    • +1

Did not have this issue, fitted perfectly so it is flush with the sides and front. Do you mean sideways 2mm too wide?

      • It was the front that didn't fit. For some strange reason, I left the oven outside tonight and tried to put the stone in again and with a jiggling around, it fit.. go figure..

  • +1

Picked one of these up today. Got 12% off a His gift card through my union as a Father's Day special so final cost was $307.

  • The Penrith store still has it at this price. When I bought one today he said they had a lot in stock.
