I'd rather eat my first new born than support Murdoch.

    • Cool, I will have your Murdoch portion, cheers

Be warn. This unit is slow and laggy when compared to the Vodafone TV or a Fire Stick 4K Max.

    Also stuck on Android 7.

    • +2

Can confirm. It's the laggiest device I've ever seen.

    • Yup, but you can turn off most unwanted services to make it faster.

    • Laggy compared to VTV? But they're like >5 years old?

    • But it does 4K so no need to say more… Right?

    • +1

Yep its so slow even to access Terrestrial TV. Plus you can't get Kayo or Binge on it anymore..

      • really I had them working on mine until a few months ago when I upgraded to google chromecast tv, just sideloaded the apk's

    • Can also confirm, it's not only laggy, it freezes from time to time. definitely avoid it.

  • +4

Chromecast with Google TV has considerably better performance while only being marginally more expensive. This device is comparable to using a built in Android OS.

  • +4

There are ways to turn off Foxtel UI and replace that with another android TV launcher. Makes it much more cleaner and you don't have to see bloatware.

  • Got one of these for my boomers in law… they love it… the Foxtel Now app interface is a disgrace though… needs a TV Guide.

Don't buy I have two sitting like bricks. You need to login to usethe box even if you don't have a subscription, they disabled my account (or deleted not sure) I signed up for another account and couldn't log in either.

    • +1

      Yeah that got me too

I bought one intending to use the free trial with virtualcc's, then rinse and repeat every month. Unfortunately for us it seems they tie the login details to the box.

However you should still be able to login using the original details. You don't need an active subscription to use the basic features, just when first logging in

      • I wasn't interested in the trial just wanted to use it as Android box but couldn't login after a few months using the original login or new login

      • How do you get a months free trial? I thought it was 10 days?

  • +6

These are a load of garbage, got my free one from a previous deal and want my money back

    • +3

Yup same here. Better off getting a random Chinese android box.

  • If it's an Android box can we set up Retroarch on it?

    • +1

Just get a firestick and do it

  • +2

    Good for a door stop

    • +2

Bit expensive for a door stop, so it's not even good for that!

  • +4

Got a free one a while back on OzB. Still trash.

    • Likewise but mine was actual trash and doa. They advised to wait until the replacement arrived before sending back the old one. Still waiting, multiple follow up without response.

  • Can this run a Plex client and playback 10bit x265 4K ~100mbps bit rate IMAX DV/HDR DTS Atmos?

  • With all the other options people are mentioning, can you get Foxtel with them? I take the box to our holiday van and works with non smart TV using wifi. Yes, can be temperamental but does the job.

  • I have fetch tv. Do I need it?

  • +1

Very slow and trys to log you into foxtel and they dont support it anymore. Have 2 and was a wast of money. Your not sure if its working and have to press the button 10 times

  • For the money it's ok for an android tv if you hack it & switch off all the foxtel crap

  • If you're prepared to spend some time sideloading and hacking then it's ok… Kind of just bearable. Would not use straight out of the box as the Foxtel UI kills the usability and is super slow. ATV launcher works.
I'd probably spend double the price to get something that works out of the box without fuss. If you are really budget constrained then it can be made to work ok.
