Portable Switch Dock + Charger That Is Safe for The Nintendo Switch

hello.

i want to play switch on my 29" monitor, but dont want to get another original Nintendo dock + charger, they are huge!

i read about 3rd party dock/hub frying switch, mostly is about the voltage thing.
i dont really need a dock, so hub is perfect for my desk.

i have that, working fine for Samsung Dex.

so, as long i use the official charger, does it matter what 3rd party hub i use?

and will the opposite also true:

if i use original dock, will it protect the switch if i use 3rd party charger ?

thank you.

  • I've used the skull and co dock without any issues though it's been a couple years since I last used it.

There is a review which says it's been working without issues for a few years.

I've been using (and recommending) the RetroN S64 dock by Hyperkin for the last few years. I have two of them and they've never missed a beat.

In terms of feeding them with power, I've used a mix of cables, power banks and wall-warts including:

    • Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD (power bank and it's wall wart and cable)
    • Original Nintendo Switch wall warts and cables
    • Mains to USB-C PD power supply with cable for my ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th Gen)

YEEEEBUS!!!! That's a solid deal. I have never spotted them under $40.00…and I paid close to $60.00ea when they first came out.

      • Thanks, picked one up.

    • Is there any chance Nintendo release a fw update and kills the support?

  • I bought this in May for my WFH setup, works great for the switch too.

if your only concern is the size, you can get official dock + charger, and change the dock external case to something slim like this. You will need to disassemble the motherboard from original dock and place it into the new case.

  • I can vouch for this — https://amzn.asia/d/7KDTdJW

    • thanks. a bit expensive :D

  • ok so if anyone interest, i have finally got the combos that works:

    for TV play =
    original switch dock
plus 65w laptop charger that has Smart Voltage: PD technology automatically detects and delivers 5V/2A,9V/2A ,15V/3A or 20V/3.25A

    for monitor play =
this dock https://www.amazon.com.au/QGeeM-Delivery-Compatible-Thunderb… bought from ali around $30
    plus original switch charger

monitor picture quality isnt good but at least i can use what i already have.

  • just a heads up.. apparently there's an update for Switch that is killing some aftermarket docks

    • update 15.0.0
yeah i will not be updating anytime soon
