great specs for this price. build quality is garbage at best IMO

  • HP really do skimp on their low end stuff.
    250 nits with 45% NTSC
    HDMI1.4b
Is there even a USBC port with DP?

Only good points is CPU 16GB and backlit KB.

Previous deal for $797 was the sweet spot, paying $200 extra for the same old HP 15S chassis is not good
Marginal build quality, crap screen, HDMI 1.4 and no Thunderbolt
AMD multicore and GPU performance on the 5825U looks great but it has only 5% more single threaded performance than the i5 1155G7

As a package and at this price, better off with the deal pricing NUC M15 i5 ~$900 or i7 ~$1000

Another good choice is the Gigabyte U4 which has the specs of the M15 i5 but in 1KG form factor

    • Is intel nuc a quality laptop? First time iv heard of it

  • How does the GPU on this compare to a mobile 3060? worth $300 more for the 3060?

  • Here's my review on OP's previous post (HP 15.6" Ryzen 5 15S-EQ3047A, AMD R5-5625U, FHD, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), and I think both of these models have similar build quality. After knowing about the keyboard and build quality, I personally wouldn't purchase this at $200 extra for the CPU:

Display: It looks brighter at its max brightness but has a warmer tone to it. Whites look different compared to my Dell S2721D monitor. Not complaining, but the colors feel washed out. Not a bad deal considering the specs.

Performance: Amazing, running 20-25 chrome tabs and still was able to play Forza 4. The laptop runs smooth. But I'm hoping to upgrade the SSD to a faster one, preferably a Samsung 980 NVMe drive. Current drive is SK Hynix BC711 which doesn't have a good benchmark.

In overall, performance is all that I was looking for in a laptop at such a low price. I will upgrade to a faster RAM and SSD hopefully in the black friday sales. But, you're after solid performer, this is it.

Ports: I'm happy that it has all necessary ports like 2x USBs, 1x USB-C, 1x HDMI and even a SD card reader. No it doesn't support charging via USB-C port. I wish it had one more USB-C port.

Battery: it has a 40,642 mAh battery. Can't complain about the battery life. I had a Zephyrus G14 with 4-5 hours of battery life. But, since I was not into gaming or video editing, 4-5hrs on a single full charge didn't cut it for me. Compared to that, this laptop has great battery life and I reckon it should serve up to 7-8 hours of usage. I was doing an assignment with 20 tabs open with YT, and till midnight, around 4 hours mark it gone down to 62%. So, pretty good battery.

Other than these, the laptop doesn't get hot, fans are quiet for normal tasks. CPU load is around 10-20% for what I'm doing (writing reports, assignments, browsing). So, pretty much office apps and chrome.

I'm quite happy with my purchase. But, typing on this keyboard feels abysmal. I'm using external keyboard 80% of the time, so, a little relieved. But, yeah keyboard, speaker and display are the compromises you're making for solid A+ performance. I'm not sure about the build quality as it's all plastic but I believe you can get a couple of years worth of use out of it easily.

I'd be happy to test anything or answer any questions.
