Replacement Google Pixel 4XL, Dead, Won't Be Replaced

My wife bought a Pixel 4XL when it was released. It died right before the end of warranty and got replaced by a new unit.

The issue was that it wouldn't charge no matter what. My wife took the 2 weeks old replacement unit overseas where the same issue occurred where the device wouldn't turn on or charge, completely lifeless. Unfortunately, when we reported it Google/Vodafone we got the same answer "you are out of warranty"

We found many other users complaining about the same issue on many forums so it's definitely a hardware issue not user.

Is there anything we can do to get a refund/replacement or just chuck it in the bin and forget about it?

  • Please recycle and maybe even search how much it might cost to fix.

We're up to Pixel 7 now so it's what, 3 years old?

    • Warranty ran out in March 2022 and the replacement device got the same issue as the first one. Law doesn't protect consumers?

It should be fit for purpose and last a ‘reasonable’ amount of time, I would certainly argue that 2 weeks is not reasonable

Warranty ended in March 2022 but you got the replacement only 2 weeks ago? They took 6 months to get a warranty replacement to you?

Dates don't make sense. Guessing there is more to the story.

        • Exactly. Says they bought the phone when it was released, but if the phone had a two year warranty expiring in March 2022, then they would have bought the phone in March 2020 and not October 2019 when it was released.

And Google definitely don't take six months to send replacement units.

Says the hardcore Apple fan who spent 24 hours outside an Apple Store for a $2000 iPhone with a Dynamic Island, wow really great huh

Hey, that feature is exclusive to the 14 pro so the plebs get pressured to spend more money.

  • Is there anything we can do to get a refund/replacement

    Yes.

Put on your big boy/girl/other pants and pursue the retailer:

  • There is an issue I get with wireless charging after Android 13 update, which sometimes require a restart to work.

I'm guessing your phone might have different issue?

Either way, time to update since not more guaranteed security updates from this month, October 2022.
