Best Way of Using Velocity Points to Get to Japan

Hi guys,
I've got lots of Velocity points 300k+ and wish to go to Japan in April 23. There will be 3 of us. Flying from melb to Japan (city flexible)

Any suggestions on how to best use these points to get to Japan?

Cheers

100,000 points per person return flying Singapore Airlines to Osaka, Nagoya or Fukuoka.

    112,000 to Tokyo.

    • thanks. im new to redeeming points for flights. I'm on the virgin aust site (logged in) and it shows very limited flights. Is this where i have to go to book? It is also quite difficult to see which days are available or not.

      • Little to no availability in April. School holidays and Easter and all.

PLENTY of availability in February and May.

It's not just you, I've been poking this bear for weeks now.

ANA (Air Nippon Airways) used to be in Velocity, so there were plenty of direct flights between Australia and Japan available for redemption. But I think COVID saw a lot of airlines drop out of Velocity - only now have all of them returned, except for ANA.

Until then Singapore Airlines is the only option, but they don't have direct flights. And April 2023 is high demand (Cherry Blossom season) on top of the pent-up demand post-COVID, so I'm doubtful there will be many points seats available.

I would depend on where you’re leaving from and going to? I’m going to say if you can’t use velocity check availability and then convert them to KrisFlyer

Hah, I had this exact question sitting in the back of my mind for weeks now… heaps of Velocity points but having no luck getting a decent deal on using them for Japan.

I've been looking at the Velocity booking website but it seems like all Singapore Airlines flights are via Singapore, so it takes 19h instead of the 10h a direct flight would take. Should I be checking another site, or is our only option hoping for ANA to return to Velocity?

At the moment, it would only be with SQ.
We are still waiting to see when ANA will be incorporated in the Velocity program.

    • gotcha thank you

ok i see 80,000 miles mel to tokyo, then either waitlist +45k back or +80k. Seems very expensive (equivalent to 250,000 velocity points!)
