Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 13.5”, Ryzen 5, 8GB/256GB $1011 + Delivery @ Harvey Norman ($960.45 Price Beat @ Officeworks)

250

Good price for a Surface Laptop 4 which is a decent lightweight machine.

I have tried with Officeworks Price Beat Guarantee and it worked perfectly - ended up with paying $960.45 (C&C at my local Officeworks store).

A few days ago there was a deal at Officeworks for $1067. So this is another $106 cheaper.

As usual 8GB IS NOT ENOUGH!

      Not enough for what?

Ah yes the 4k hdr linux ISOs

      • chrome

      • For any basic usage in 2022

    • Its low. WIndows 11 likes its RAM more than 10.

Dozen tabs in chrome, and a handful of office apps and from experience on a surface, its real tight before swapping occurs.

Not sure of VRAM and shared ram.

  • Is the RAM user upgradeable?

    • Nope

microsoft surface laptop 5 is out last night.
still a good price for laptop 4.

    • +4

      Terrible 5 no amd

    • +3

They almost did nothing with 5. Same old bezels, same old 720p webcam, an intel chip that will be the previous gen very soon, etc…

      • +2

yet prices are through the nose

        • well, it's a "breakthrough"..

      • Yes, the i5 1235u and the i7 1255u are outclassed easily by the Ryzen 6600u and 6800u. Considering the the Intel U series only has two performance cores.

        6800u scores 20974
        6600u scores 17804
i5 1235u and i7 1255u score 13533, because the only difference between them is clock speed.

They are also miss out on RDNA2 graphics performance that the Ryzen 6000 CPUs bring to table, which Intel can't match.

        • unlikely MS will move away from intel now intel is also rushing in to make their own GPUs… very soon in the future, MS may try to get intel discrete into their surface lineup.

unfortunate, as i've used the laptop 4 ryzen for a few months, and it's a decent rig with good battery life.

  • Can you still use the 10% xbox gift cards from shopback applied to microsoft account, and then purchase from microsoft online store?

  • +2

this CPU is 2 generations behind. isn't any of the, say, various Lenovos with 5xxx ryzen CPU a better value option than this?

    • +2

any non-surface laptops probably will have a better $ value compared to a surface…

it kind of boils down to why would you want a surface in the first place.

  • Has anyone tried to get Hardly Normal to match/ better Officeworks' price beat?

Need to use up a HN gift card so OW's a no go.

  • -1

They're dreaming with that 8GB of ram.

  • How long have you been able to get a surface with a ryzen chip?

    • +1

Since SL3 and seems no longer as of SL5

  • I'm hoping surface pro 7 will come down in prices now that Surface Pro 9 has been announced

  • any one who bought this had any issues with the battery life? despite using recommended settings for battery and doing couple of charge cycles, the battery life is no where close to even 1/3rd of the 19 hours on normal usage.
I always had surface notebook, but since it was company issued it was always left at charging and used as a CPU for screens
