  • Nice blender.

Features look good, but it's not exactly cheap. I have the Carlinkit v3 (and my parents have the v4) which can be bought for about $70 and these work flawlessly.

    • You dont get the lag in audio?

      • +1

No lag in music streaming or nav audio.

I do very occasionally (once a month or so) get a lockup, and unplugging and replugging the USB fixes it.

    • Please link us to where. Even double that on Aliexpress

    • Link?

See above. They're all over eBay.

  • Does this device have the ability to allow casting from your device to the cars display?

I'm coming from nightshift but can't seem to find confirmation that the ottocast can actually cast.

    • Looks to me like if your car already has Android Auto or Apple Car play, but you have to plug a cable in for it to work, this dongle will plug in to the cable and allow you to go wireless.

      • This is exactly what it does.

From my understanding the headunit needs Apple CarPlay, this device then allows both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

        • Ye I'm aware of that, but I'm wondering if you can cast from the device to the screen. For example cast Netflix from my phone to the cars display.

          • +2

@Squirmy Squid: It will not do anything you can’t do already in your car through a wired connection. It just means you can keep your phone in your pocket/handbag/luggage etc.

I have the previous model of this and returned it because of the lag on the calls. Just received the adapter 3 days ago from quadlock and it’s flawless you can even pair multiple phones which these other adapter can’t. https://www.quadlockcase.com.au/products/wireless-carplay-ad…

    • This is only Apple compatible, not Android FYI

    • +1

If it says pre-order how did you receive three days ago?….

      • yeah it says delivering early october.. can't complain :)

    • +1

Thank you! … ordered (Quadlock unit) … I especially like that this is an Australian, Australia based company … and the 30 day money back guarantee, together with the 10% discount when first giving them your eMail address, doesn't hurt :).

  • any alternatives that work with both Android Auto and Apple Carplay?

    • +1

There's carlinkit but there audio lag

      • How do you notice lag? Watching video?

    • +1

AAWireless … haven't tested lag yet, mine arrived yesterday
Motorola A1 (has some lag I believe).. can get with Telstra Rewards though

      • Did you order the AAWIRELESS from the official site ? I think its coming around $175AUD

        • $145.37 on 28degrees

      • Doesn't work with Carplay though, right? It's specifically a wireless unit for AA equipped headunits?

        • Yep thats correct. AAWIRELESS is only for Android Auto

      • I had a Motorola A1 (family bought it back from the US recently) and paired with SGS10+ it drops out occasionally. On avg of 1 hour trip, it drops out once. Unsure why since it's the only phone connected wirelessly. On short 10mins trips, it works fairly well uninterrupted.

      • Feedback on that AAWireless please.

        • So far it seems fine, haven't had a chance to test over an extended drive. Hoping to do so this coming week a 2.5-3hr trip

  • Both the Ottocast and the Carlinkit have terrible reviews. What is up with these devices being so poor and for so much money?

    • I would say because some of these prorducts are fakes, if you go on eBay, Ali Express you can see the large number of them and then they vary in price. But it's hard to know for sure, could also be that this muct be some sort of hack that they came up with, just that for the ones that work, it seems pretty stable.

  • Cheaper from an Amazon (third party seller) $99.99 (Prime only?)

    • Is this a reasonable deal?
      Unsure on this item

  • One other thing to look for a decision making is that who easy to phone switch in case of multiple people uses the car. I think many of them operates based on manual re-connecting process as to disconnect the connected one and connect the desired one. I wish there was one out there which has option to change the connected phone

  • I ordered just on the basis of 15 day return policy

  • I have u2x'es and a aawireless they are both good devices but the u2x is better as it supports both carplay and Android auto. This is not the best for the u2x its cheaper here $109.95 https://amzn.asia/d/7cbhBcF
