Ozbargain is turning 16 - Come celebrate Ozbargain's annual tradition

Hosting around Strathfield area again but this time at a VIETNAMESE ALL YOU CAN EAT for good value.

    very interesting. with ALL YOU CAN EAT, try not to eat carb ie rice noodle.
    aim for meat, seafoods etc. all the expensive stuffs

      I mean for $35 how much phở can you eat? Say a large bowl is $18, can the average person really really eat two of them?

      this guy knows how to buffet

      I went to Tokyo den with friends and they wasted their appetite on fried rice and noodles when Sashimi and wagyu is where the money is at.

      Looking at the Savourys menu, I would order S&P Squid, Crab Claws, Grilled prawns, Crispy Chicken, Steamed Guilan as much as you can to get your moneys worth

      Not really - It hasn't been locked in yet since the restaurant is hard to reach - no replies on phone, email and IG. Plus they're only open during the evenings.

      @cerealsmok3r will be helping me scope out the restaurant sometime this/next week as I am not in Sydney at the moment.

    Is the cap the max booking size at this place? And is it a timed booking? (I know some all you can eat places have timed seating from 1.5-2 hours.)

    Would it be worth taking deposits for people to confirm numbers?

      I'm just limiting since small groups work and I haven't yet gotten the booking (was more of an interest poll).

      Once I am able to get confirmation from the restaurant, I'll open it up to more places. I might have to change the time though since booking form only shows 2 available times for this date.

    Update 19/10/2022

    Finally got in contact with the restaurant on a call - I'm just awaiting on their email to confirm some other queries I had before I re-open the poll.

    But for now:

    • They don't really have a capacity so I'll be re-opening the poll (possibly tomorrow evening) to accommodate 30 people
    • They are also changing their menu items from next month so will have to see if you guys still want to eat there

        What do you recommend? I was thinking change it to Butcher's Buffet but that would be lunch.

        There's also Tokyo Den but we already have Okami.

        I'll wait until end of month before deciding to change.

    Update 28/10

    Hey all,

    I've contacted the store again. They've locked in my reservation for 30 people but unable to give a confirmation to menu as they have yet to receive an update from upper management on that.

    The store may be transitioning from AYCE to a la carte so they are waiting for that news.

    If that happens, I will be changing to another restaurant.

    I'm looking at some other AYCE alternatives (below), please comment if there are any others.

    • Wagyu House Croydon
    • GBG Korean BBQ
    • Star Buffet

    Should we also change the date to early Nov before the menu changes?

    Hey all,

    From previous update

    Savoury Dining social media says their new menu is about to launch so hopefully I can get some clarification sometime next week.

    Therefore, if I don't get a response by 18/11 I'll be changing venue to Tokyo Den Burwood (Date/time still same)

    Hopefully I get an update by then, cause I don't really want 2 consecutive days of sushi AYCE hahaha

          sashimi plate is just tuna and salmon, good - but not great.
          I like their seared salmon nigiri and a couple of other things.

      Update 18/11

      I've called up Savoury again today and they've advised they'll be sticking with AYCE next week as they have not heard back on menu update. They'll email me tonight to pay the deposit (hopefully I receive something), have also increased it to 40 people.

      At the same time, I have also sent a booking request to Tokyo Den for 40 people - going to give them a few days to reply before I follow up.

      Why do all these restaurants only open during dinner service… =(

        Alright, I've gotten a reply from Tokyo Den - they can fit 40 of us in from 7.30pm to close.

        I'm at a dilemma of whether to go for Japanese or Vietnamese AYCE…Tokyo Den at least replies to me yet I rarely hear back from Savoury Dining.

        Can you all up-vote if to keep or comment if to change?

            @I Smell Pennies: Tokyo Den is good, they reply early, first in first serve? Just realised AYCE = all you can eat. Is this equivalent to self serve buffet?

            Also free train next week, so burwood is a easier station to get to and more train, easier to arrive and depart. Probably this is also within walking distance from station.

              and no, buffet is when you pick your own food physically, this is where you can order on an ipad or something

                @impostor: Either is fine, I am excited to attend either, I think I just made it to the top 40. Keen to leave the car at home to save petrol and use free public transport.

                edit, user above mentioned Wagyu beef, this alone should convince us we should go to Burwood.

    Update 19/11

    Hey all - sorry for the wait,

    Savoury Dining has replied and I have paid the deposit to secure the booking - as such I will begin to reach out to attendees on the waitlist if they still like to attend.

    This is how it goes on the night - After getting your Preorder menu (I've sent the below to get things started), the chef will split them into 3 rounds with portions enough for everyone. After 3 rounds, staff will come around to take individual orders for customers who would like to order from the menu. The timeframe is 2 hours and still AYCE.

    • Vietnamese Rice paper rolls (we have a few vegetarian attendees)
    • Crispy pancake
    • Prawn spring rolls
    • Grilled Pork Sausages
    • Shaky Beef
    • Crispy chicken maryland
    • S&P Squid
    • Grilled prawns
    • Steamed Gailan
    • Grilled beef with betel leaves relish

    As drinks are separate from the menu and the option for unlimited drinks they gave me is out of budget (they're asking for $12pp for unlimited 2 hrs of juice/soft drinks) - attendees will have to purchase it themselves. I'm communicating with them on how to work it out

            @JTB10: Yes, can consider the event is full.

            There's a few factors I consider when I go down the list:

            • their last online status
            • if they have a 'Not a bot' badge
            • if they have attended an event this year/not attended before
            • if PMs are enabled

            A few I've messaged didn't get back to me so I've moved on. Likewise for members with PM disabled.

    Been advised since they will be quite busy on Friday night, they are unable have each attendee purchase individually at the counter. They can split the bill based on drinks only and we can sort it ourselves. (FYI: drinks are at own expense due to budget)

    Therefore was thinking, if you want to purchase drinks, just order as normal, make a note of what it is and can transfer me at the end of the night through payid/beem.

    @Imposter thank you for hosting this event and checking things for everyone and liasing with the restaurant etc :) the service was good and the staff kept the food coming and I'm sure everyone enjoyed it as I did!
