Philips 40PFL5605H/12 5000 Series 40" LCD LED TV 100Hz $498 + $18 Delivery @ JB Hi Fi (Online Only)

90

Edit @ 1300, 21st June.

As per steve-rsa and confirmed by myself, the "factory scoop" 40" Philips TV deal expired earlier, yet I checked again just recently and both the 32" and 40" are now available.

I inquired about the discrepancy and was recently phoned by a JB Hifi rep and they stated that both the 32" and 40" Philips TV deals had some problems with the website and that the issues had been rectified. They also said my order would go though, but would confirm it via email and that the deals were selling fast with not much stock was left (of course).

Take of the above what you will.

I posted the 32" version of this TV, also from JB HIFI a few days ago (link below) and the deal expired in less than 40 minutes after submission. I have since come across this deal for the 40" and have gone through the order process and bought it. So at least for now, it is available.

All the user reviews linked to the testfreaks site appear to be in foreign languages, though the overall ratings seem relatively favourable. Thankfully 2 of the 11 'expert reviews' are in english:

  • On JB link, title reads 40", description reads 32" :|

    • Yeah, a bit sloppy of them. As long as the invoice states 40" I ain't complaining.

    • Description also states
      "Greener every day
-LED TVs up to 40% more energy efficient than" (than what?!)

  • How does this TV compare in terms of video quality to any of the Samsung 40" lcd led TV. What are the reviews on this TV this seems very tempting and within my budget of what I want to spend on a TV. primarily I want a TV so i can watch movies from a portable hard drive, play Xbox 360 and to possibly hook up Foxtel to watch live sports will this be handle all this. Reading the specs looks impressive. Anyone know what the energy rating is on this TV?

    • From the specs page:

      Green label: ECO label certified
      • Power consumption (typical): 84 W
      • Standby power consumption: < 0.15 W
      • Off mode power consumption: < 0.01 W
      • Annual energy consumption: 122.64 kW·h

I've also added a link to reviews in the description mate.

  • How good is the image in reality? Has anybody seen this in store?

  • is this worth it?

    • Hmm the amazon uk reviews say its awesome however some of the "expert" reviews say it's disappointing…

I don't know whether to but or not to buy…….

  • Nothing against Philips, but I'd hold out for a better set. Both reviews seem pretty scathing on the picture quality, and when you're spending over $500 you really expect a better picture. The sound seems no better either and the lack of playback formats (mkv etc) via USB is a major drawback as well.

  • My Phillips plasma died after about 2 years. No faith in the brand since then.

  • I used to be loyal to the Philips brand until I bought one of their top of the line TVs that failed outside warranty. TV repairer said it was a known common fault with the TV (and google searches confirmed that). Philips wouldn't do anything, apart from sell me a replacement part for an extortionate amount (and with no guarantee it wouldn't fail again in a year or two). Will never buy anything Philips again. Overpriced junk IMO.

  • Offer has been removed.

  • ;) If anyone buys one of these and wants to wall mount it - i.e. get rid of the stand, let me know. Brisbane area.

  • OP here, I just got an email stating that my TV has been shipped.
