Credit Card Travel Insurance

Off to the US in 2 weeks for 2 weeks.

I have paid for my airfares with my Amex platinum reserve and car hire and accommodation with my ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card hence triggering travel insurance on both cards.

Absolutely no thoughts of double dipping in the event of a claim.

With the current situation around Covid etc, would you consider the coverage afforded by credit card insurances as adequate or would you consider purchasing a a separate policy.

Cheers

Read the PDS and if you happy with it, no need to worry about extra cover.

It's a completely personal choice. Some people are happy with basic health insurance while others prefer the complete set of hospital and extras. Some people are happy with third party car insurance while others prefer full comprehensive with all the extras. For travel insurance I am personally happy just to be covered for medical and legal although I'm sure there are others who prefer to be covered for every single thing that does not go according to their planned travel itinerary. Your choice.

depends on what the policy says and what your requirements are.

  • Seperate every time

I've read through the credit card insurance PDSs and compared to regular policies - for the most part they are the same in coverage.

You specifically asked about COVID though - which you should check individually as not all credit card insurance policies include COVID coverage right now.

Claim process may be a different matter. I have had some experience on claiming credit card insurance (via Travel Adventures card actually) - it was a SLOW process but I got everything that I expected back in the end.

  • We had excellent after hours support from CCTI agent (getting QF to reschedule us onto a full flight after missing ours) even though our claim for costs would eventually be denied (economy fare difference & hotel room). Local QF agents in Japan had said economy fully sold for next five days, only business class available.
