At least the 13900k gets you a CPU and room heater 2 in 1. The downside is that winter just ended

    • the money saved from heating bill would offset the cost of this.
In summer just open the windows

      • nah you won't be saving money on your heating bill with this

        • why not?

saves you needing to turn on the heater in winter

  • The i5 _400F range of Intel CPUs still are the ozb favourites.

  • Buy a 13900k and yes you will need a new power a supply lol.

13900k runs 300w under all core load in production work loads. In gaming it's fine. If you need production and gaming Ryzen would be better. It might be a better investment also if you don't have 12th gen Intel already as you will have a better upgrade path.

  • I bought a 3000 series chip, 5000 series released, I bought a 10th gen intel and 12th gen released, I bought a 5000 series and 7000 series released. Money is a joke

1982 called, welcome to the world of PC upgrade cycles.

    • +2

And why have you bothered upgrading several times for?

      • It’s complicated

        • Fancy way of saying pointless.

I've made similar mistakes, now I realise how pointless it was.

          • @scuderiarmani: Most of it was pointless yeah, some of it was gpu’s were stupid expensive at the time, was weaving through with apu’ s and a gt 1030 that died from a high voltage line explosion

    • +4

That's the way of it unfortunately. Customers who haven't just upgraded want the latest and greatest, so companies have to keep releasing bigger and better products year on year or else their competitors get an edge on them and win market share away. What I try to do is just buy the fastest possible machine at the time, and wait until I really need to upgrade. It's working a little bit too well! I'm still rocking an i7 4790k 16 gig RAM with a GTX 1080 and to be honest, it will probably be fine for my needs until it physically fails. But when I was younger, upgrading PC every 2 years to always have the latest and greatest, the idea of still using my primary machine 8 years later was unthinkable, laughable even.

  • Only 13900k/kf left..

The i9 seems to be completely stupid but the i5 13600k seems like a decent CPU.
Productivity performance around or better than the AMD 7700x and gaming performance within about 5% of the i9
    Good value IMO

Power draw seems reasonable too if you care about that. i.e. only a bit more than the 7700X in a workload where it was a bit faster than the 7700X

decent might be underselling it, the big con is the end of the line platform

i noticed somehow i have an ebay coupon for a $60 discount (don't know where it came from), and that would bring 13600k to $509 from computer alliance ebay

  • Even tho the 13000 have cheaper boards but am5 in the long run might be worth the price. But who knows how future gonna turns out

    • For the current price difference (assuming you have decent DDR4) of 7950X+mobo+DDR5 vs 13900K+mobo - you could afford a new mobo + ram when doing the next upgrade in N years time.

I'm currently on AMD .. but looking to jump to intel for a generational upgrade because perf is similar, pricing is cheaper.

      • don't quite understanding what you are saying?

Are you saying going intel is better/cheaper than AMD

        what motherboard do you recommend?

        • Its potentially more bang for your buck if you already have some decent DDR4 you want to carry over to the new system.

You'd have to do some research, but it looks like you can get Z690 motherboard that supports DDR4 for about $250, say a 13600KF for $465 - vs $340 for a B650M motherboard + $475 for a 7600X + cost of new DDR5 ram.

          • @qwijibo: what if you don't have any DDR4?

what would the price difference be?
if you can give rough price list of each side

is 13600 boards have good upgrade path like AM4 or AM5 or it is dead end?

  • how 5600x would be compared with 13600KF?

    • +1

      it even wins against 7600x
5600x would not be a fair comparison

      Way slower but way cheaper
Unless you've got a 4090 or play at 1080p it probably wont matter that much.

      • thanks guys, I currently got a 5600x and thinking about an upgrade after selling this. I might keep it for few years then and upgrade.
I play at 1080p 60fps anyway, even my GPU is not at 100% in most games :D

  • My one year old 11400 has not aged all that well even though it was cheap at the time! Whoops

    • That's why i've paired it with Z590 Aorus Xtreme and the best 4400MHz DDR4 available 🫠 just to wait for this 13th sh!tbox 😂

  • Thanks I got the 13600KF for $455 for some reason.

  • +1

Cheers. Had a look around and snagged a 13600kf for 459 from computer alliance ebay.

    The upgrade from a Ryzen 1700 begins…

  • Has anyone received shipping notification yet?

    • +1
