The AC adapter is what separates it from most chargers. My MFT mirrorless camera batteries can only be charged in an external AC charger, so this gives me another option overseas if I don't have enough adapters. Also I can plug in my AA rechargeable battery charger on my desktop when I need it - my power boards and power points are usually a hassle to access because they're hidden away or very low.

Pins for the charger's own plug are in the upside down position (personally I see this as an asset as it means you can use it with older skirting board power points (still common overseas), since the cable points up away from, instead of down into the floor.

With this charger's uninsulated plug, take extra care to ensure the plug is out of reach of kids and you keep metal (eg metal blind slats) away when it's plugged in. Australian regulated active and neutral pins (ie both pins for 2 prong plugs, and the top 2 diagonal prongs for 3 prong plugs) produced since 2005 are insulated except for the tips. You may have some pre-2005 uninsulated plugs you're using on other stuff that you should also take care with.

How is the AC cable connected - fixed, or C13 or something else perhaps? I can't find any photos of the back end of it.

Good question. And sadly the answer is "hard-wired". A pass from me for that very reason.

All Baseus GaN chargers are the same.

      • Suggest any alternative?

        • Fortunately, Baseus seem to be the only one's hard wiring. Every other brand I've seen uses the standard figure 8 socket.

Topk makes one in the same form factor (which I own), as does Kovol.

Thank you so much for this. I have been eyeing this one off for a few months, this totally kills it. Absurd that it's not C8.

    • Hardwired with a CN plug which is upside down.

It doesn't meet Australian standards(no insulated pins) and is illegal to sell which is why there is no picture.

    • Reason it's hardwired is because it has a 240v passthrough

If you think about chargers in tiers(ignoring teardowns/measurements), it would be bottom tier and not advisable.

Tier A - first part chargers - eg. Apple, Samsung
Tier B - reputable third party - eg.Anker, Satechi, Belkin, etc
Tier C - overseas brands - eg. baseus, Xiaomi and lesser known third party in Australia
Tier D - generic brands from Australian retail
Tier E - random brands that slap their brand on anything
      Tier F - unbranded/generic chargers

  • This one has a bad habit of briefly stopping supply to all usb sockets when you connect a new device which makes my already connected phone to chime several times when wife connects hers.
Did not think it will bother me that much :(
I also have a phone with dead battery and it never stops negotiating fast charge, so constantly restarting/chiming and no charging, though it works fine with its own charger.

    • Yeah, that's really annoying.

So what are the alternatives for wall chargers to use during travels?

  • Looks like it's gone back up to $69.99
