The single edition has illustrations done by the author himself. This does not.

Price is showing as $147 now. Not sure if I’m doing this right. Shame. LOTR can be difficult to read the first time. Kids would have loved the illustrations.

I first read the books when I was 12. Needed to have a dictionary with me lol
It was around that age for me too :). You also need to just see a name and not try to read it, like oh yeah that long elven name, got it.. well I did. Also, if you have the edition which was all three books in one, it had tiny writing.. so maybe a magnifying glass.. and I dropped the thing on my face multiple times after falling asleep reading it, which wasn't a pleasant experience given its weight haha.
Available for back order still, need to select other sellers and choose "Amazon Au". But no free delivery option, so comes to $77.
Looks like it is back to full price.

That's a bad price compared to the illustrated edition in this deal.
Not as cheap as earlier, but it's currently down to $88.23 for those who are still interested.
I am keeping my fingers crossed it will come back down to sub-70.
I ended up buying for $88, due to be delivered tomorrow. I didn't buy the other illustrated volume because I wanted the separate books and matching Hobbit.
I bought the LOTR illustrated by the author from previous deal on ozbargain, is this worth the extra money for the hobbit? How's this collection?
All the reviews I've seen are glowing i.e. nice paper and print quality plus Allan Lee illustrations. Lee was brought in to do concept art for the Peter Jackson films

Ah wish I bought this too and just returned the other one as it's to Amazon anyway. I guess they are different to have both as well. Now hope for another deal in the future for this!
