OP Notes

  • I couldn't get it to work on a brower as Discord detects your credit card country origin (just like Spotify)
  • The easiest method will be subscribing on the Discord app via Apple Pay - it shouldn't take too long to get everything going and if you already have an Apple Turkey account, this should be a breeze and can be done within a min
  • For android users, consider using this thread - it might help?

Instructions (via iOS)

How to make a new Turkish Apple ID?

  1. Create a Turkish Apple ID using a new Apple ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com/account

  2. Follow the onscreen steps. In the mobile number section, use your Australian mobile number (Very important to use a valid Australian number or risk losing your ID). Choose the country as Turkey. Then follow through the rest to create your ID.

  3. Login into Apple ID on a browser. Go to this link to enter a Turkish address (you can get a random address here) to your Turkish Apple ID. Select payment method as "none" and save.

  4. Go to Settings on your iPhone/iPad > [Your Name] > Media and Purchases > Log out from your current ID and login with your Turkish Apple ID

Loading your Turkish Apple ID with Turkey (aka Türkiye for those OCD) Gift Cards

  1. Buy TL (₺) iTunes gift cards (Make sure you only buy Turkish ones, only comes in 25 TRY and 50 TRY denominations) from TurGame > Choose currency as TL/TRY See how and pay with a debit/credit card (use a card that has no international transaction fees to avoid the any extra costs). All transactions will have a certain "Payment Partner Fee" attached - at checkout, choose "Credit or debit card - PAYTR" for the lowest payment partner fee (it's very small)

  2. Redeem iTunes gift cards on your iPhone/iPad by going to App Store > Account (located at right top corner) > Redeem gift cards or code.

Downloading Discord

  1. Once signed in with your Turkish Apple ID, download Discord from the app store. If you already have Discord installed using your Australian Apple ID, skip this step and proceed to step 2

  2. Once downloaded, restart your device (this ensures the pricing shows up as TRY and not AUD)

Subscribing to Discord Nitro

  1. Boot up the app and sign up or sign in. Click on your profile picture, and head to Discord Nitro. You should be able to see Turkish Lira prices for either Nitro/Nitro Classic **monthly subscriptions.

  2. Choose your preferred subscription (Nitro or Nitro Classic) and click on it. You should see Turkish Lira prices for both monthly and annual plans. Proceed to subscribe, use touch/face ID to complete your transaction

  3. Once subscribed, that’s it! Enjoy your new subscription!

      Okay so after some tinkering. I have successfully subscribed.

      1. Make a new Google account and set the payment profile as Turkey and I added in my ING DEBIT card

      2. In secure folder on my phone added the new Google account and installed discord in the secure folder and logged in with my own discord account.

      3. Used VPN to Turkey

      4. I bought the cheapest app on the playstore as initially it would come up with payment error. It was called 1 TL. link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.birtlapp

      5. Once the payment went through in the playstore, I went back to discord to subscribe and I could purchase the yearly membership for TRY 270.

            @capslock janitor: It's part of Samsung devices and built into the software. Essentially it's a seperate profile in android. I'm sure google has something like this but named differently.

          Make sure you are purchasing the subscription within the secure folder and with VPN. Try resetting google play store cache, might help.

              @[Deactivated]: I did it all on my phone, you can enter payment profile on mobile browser as well. And I didn't enter a phone number to make a google account. Just entered a fake turkey address. Urban VPN works and it should be free. Also tried with Nord and was able to get through

              It's also easier to pin the one message.

          If we went by percentage of cost from someone on minimum wage, it's higher in Australia than Turkey. If then we compared these percentages, we find it's roughly 10% more expensive in Australia. Not as much as I expected tbh, might be able to be explained away with increased local costs of running the Sydney server for streams/calls etc so Discord mightn't be making much extra profit. Hardly a pat on the back there.

          Compared others in the past and it was upwards of 50% which yes at that margin, is greed.

          I realise you're just stirring. But violating t&c's isn't illegal. It's a bit like refusing a bag search in a shop. They can say it's in their t&c's, but they can't legally enforce it.

          Honestly it's at worst deceptive conduct, but not outright theft, since people are actually paying for it. I see it no different to parallel importing.
